How To Find The Right International Cell Phone For You

Friday, July 4th, 2008

Having an international cell phone with you while traveling abroad can make things much easier - you can be instantly contactable, either with the folks back home, or to deal with your trip plans and reservations as you travel.

However, if you research on the Internet it can be a little overwhelming with the different options available.

In truth you really only have 3 main options with international cell phones, and the major factor that will affect your decision is whether you want the easiest and most convenient option, or the option that has the cheapest call rates, because you can only have one or the other.

1. Check if you can use your own cell phone

If you have the right type of cell phone, you may be able to use it when you travel abroad. If you are unsure then your carrier should be able to tell you. The advantage of taking your own cell phone is that you will keep your own number so it will be easy for friends to call you. However, using your own cell phone can be more expensive due to roaming charges (the extra charge added for routing the call abroad).

Conclusion - potentially this offers the greatest convenience but be prepared that your calls will cost you more. The most likely outcome will be that your carrier does not offer an international service, or if they do, you do not own the right type of handset.

2. Rent an international cell phone

If you cannot use your own cell phone abroad then you can rent an international cell phone that will work, just for the period of your trip. The cost of the calls will vary, depending on what type of SIM card the rental phone uses. If it uses a global SIM card then your calls will be higher priced, but if you are traveling to a number of countries you will keep the same number. If it uses a local SIM card your calls will be cheaper, but you will need a different local SIM card for each country you plan to visit.

Conclusion - rental sounds like a good idea, but you can now buy your own second cell phone, just for traveling, for the same price as one or two weeks’ rental charges, so that might be a more cost efficient option for you.

3. Buy your own international cell phone

The cost to buy your own second cell phone, just for international travel, has now come within the reach of all travelers. As with renting an international cell phone, the cost of your calls will depend on what type of SIM card your phone uses. If you use a global SIM card, you will keep the same number in every country but your call charges will be a little higher. If you use local SIM cards you will get cheaper calls but have to buy a different one for each country you visit in the future - this can start to get expensive if you are a frequent traveler.

Conclusion - If you cannot use your own cell phone, buying a second one is generally more cost effective than renting every time. If you want a system that is easy to use then a global SIM card will be the best for you. If you bottom line is cheaper calls, and you are happy to put in a bit of effort to get them, then buy and phone and use local SIM cards (but don’t overlook the cost to buy each individual SIM card when you do your price analysis).

How To Develop Your Information Marketing Strategy

Friday, July 4th, 2008

Information marketing - also called infopreneuring - is a method to take information you own, have licence to, or can have created for you, and then offer it to others for a profit or any other advantage.

If in the process you also enrich your audience, you have a mutually beneficial process in place - one which will help grow and build your value as an information marketing specialist.

To get maximum leverage from your information marketing efforts, you must have an integrated strategy that will guide all your efforts at promoting yourself as an infopreneur.

1. What is your ‘product’?

Any information marketing strategy begins by knowing what you plan to offer. In other words, what is your product?

It might be a book you have written. Or an audio tape you have recorded. Or a DVD movie you shot of yourself doing something or teaching people what you know about a topic.

Or it may be more intangible, like your time on the telephone or in person, or your presence at a seminar or conference. Whatever format you choose to deliver your information becomes your ‘product’ - and your information marketing strategy will vary depending on that.

2. Who is your ‘audience’?

Every information marketing system is targeted at a crowd of prospects. The bigger this crowd, the better. But for maximum impact, you need to know more about your audience.

Who or what is your perfect target market? It could be individuals, or groups, or corporations and businesses, or countries, organizations, even brands or ethnic groups.

Your information marketing strategy will be tailored to fit the specific needs, wants, desires, characteristics, preferences and tastes of this audience - and will get you massive results from your infopreneuring activities.

3. Where do they live or gather?

For targeting your information marketing efforts to get the biggest return on investment per dollar spent, you need to know where your market lives or gathers - so you can get your marketing message in front of them most effectively.

An ad for a Lexus sportscar would do badly in a soup kitchen. And a promotion for a golfing book would get very few sales in a nursery school. Yet most information marketing activities fail to specifically target their market - and not surprisingly fail.

4. What is your profit model?

Have you heard the phrase: Build a better mousetrap and they’ll beat a trail to your front door?

Well, maybe they will - but unless you’ve figured out a way to sell that mousetrap at higher than your cost, or found another way to turn a profit, all that demand won’t do you a bit of good.

As an information marketing strategist, you need to be clear on your profit model - and figure out your marketing budget or the amount you can afford to spend to attract new customers, without losing money or for maximum profits.

This barely scratches the surface of information marketing strategy. There are many more things to consider - and many nuances to master in these broad categories. And that is why it is critically important to keep learning, growing your knowledge base, and studying other material that teach you to be a better infopreneur.

Information marketing is a valuable skill to own in today’s connected online world. Be a master infopreneur, and you can build massive wealth and gain financial freedom faster than ever before.

Wentworth Miller - Breakout Star

Friday, July 4th, 2008

If you had asked people five years ago if they’d heard the name Wentworth Miller you’d probably have been met with a parade of blank stares and shrugged shoulders. Today, Miller is known around the world as the star of Fox’s hit series Prison Break.

Debuting in the fall of 2005, Prison Break catapulted Wentworth Miller into the limelight. However, Miller was by no means an overnight success. In fact, it took him almost a decade to break away from bit parts and pilots to his own hit TV series.

Born in the town of Chipping Norton, England in 1972, the son of a Rhodes scholar was transplanted back to the States at an early age. After graduating from Princeton University with a degree in English Literature, Miller moved to Los Angeles to work with a small production company specializing in made-for-TV movies. However, it didn’t take long until the urge to get in front of the camera became too great to resist.

Miller first hit our screens in 1998 in ‘Go Fish’, the 20th episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s second season. From there he found a few guest roles in Popular, ER and Joan of Arcadia, but never managed to make a name for himself.

After landing roles in Kate Beckinsale’s Underworld (2003), Anthony Hopkins’ The Human Stain (2003) and a voice role in Stealth (2005), Miller was chosen to play the role of Michael Schofield, a structural engineer who commits armed robbery with the intention of being imprisoned in Fox River State Penitentiary — the same prison at which his older brother is being held on death row for a crime he did not commit.

Following a debut that drew 10.5 million viewers, and a second episode of 8.5 million, Prison Break quickly became a firm favorite with audiences. In fact, the enormous success of the show led Fox to extend its run from the previously planned 13 episodes to a full season. Its continuing success helped make the decision to green light a second season a no-brainer.

Following a nomination for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series, Miller’s star is clearly rising. The question now is this: where does he go from here? After cementing himself firmly as a heartthrob to women and a role model to men, Miller has become known to all. So what next? Who knows? What we do know, however, is that this breakout star won’t be wanting for offers anytime soon.

Student Loan Repayment Simplified with NextStudent’s Federal Consolidation

Friday, July 4th, 2008

Are you getting ready to graduate? Well, along with college graduation comes the much-dreaded student loan repayment. If you were lucky enough to qualify for subsidized student loans, the government has been paying the interest on your student loans through school; if you had to take out unsubsidized student loans, your interest has been accruing. Either way, six months after graduation your grace period ends and it is time for you to begin repaying your student loans.

NextStudent, a leading Phoenix-based education funding company, recommends that you start shopping around for student loan consolidation loans as soon as possible. Student loan consolidation ( www.nextstudent.com/consolidation_loans/consolidation_loans.asp http://www.nextstudent.com/consolidation_loans/consolidation_loans.asp ) is a great way to manage your monthly student loan payments. Not only will you lock into one loan at one fixed interest rate, it also is possible to reduce monthly payments by up to 60 percent and eliminate the hassle of dealing with multiple payments to different lenders.

Do Your Research before Selecting a Student Loan Consolidation Lender

Frequently, college financial aid offices offer students a list of Preferred Lenders for all of their financial needs, from Stafford loans to student loan consolidation loans. However, students are not required to work with the lenders on those lists and instead should shop for a company that best suits their needs.

Just like every student is different, every lending company has its own character, ethical standards and quality controls. Borrowers should be selective and choose their lender carefully, making sure to consider and compare the reputation and integrity of the company, level of customer service provided, and the individual student loan consolidation ( www.nextstudent.com/ http://www.nextstudent.com/ ) incentives offered.

NextStudent’s LOCKED Discount

The federal government sets the base interest rate on all student loans ( www.nextstudent.com/student-loans/student-loans.asp http://www.nextstudent.com/student-loans/student-loans.asp ), including student loan consolidation. The only true differences the consolidation loan lenders provide are the incentives offered by each company. For example, in an effort to extend significant savings to borrowers, NextStudent offers a 1 percent LOCKED interest rate discount after 36 consecutive on-time payments, which borrowers retain for the life of their student loan, while other lenders may revoke their benefits for a single late payment. NextStudent also is committed to providing outstanding customer service and the best incentives in the industry.

Some of NextStudent’s Federal Consolidation Loan Benefit Packages:

Package #1
• 1 percent LOCKED interest rate reduction after 36 on-time payments
• .25 percent interest rate discount for Auto-Debit payments

Package #2
• 2 percent interest rate reduction after 36 on-time payments (not locked)
• .25 percent interest rate discount for Auto-Debit payments

NextStudent believes that getting an education is the best investment you can make, and it is dedicated to helping you pursue your education dreams by making college funding simple. It’s Time For My Date To Meet My Family and Friends, What Should I Do?

Friday, July 4th, 2008

If you’re letting your date meet your family and friends you must be getting more serious about the person you’re dating. That’s good. You may be a little apprehensive about your date meeting your family and friends because you want things to go well. You want your friends and family to like the person you date and your date to like them. Don’t worry about it! Just be yourselves and move forward with the introductions! Here are some tips and information that may help you when you’re preparing to have your date meet your family and friends:

1) You may want to prepare your date for meeting your family by making them aware of any family traditions or what may be expected by your family. For example, if your family expects on Sundays that everyone in the family attend dinner at your parents home by 5:00 p.m., let the person you’re dating know this.

2) Introduce your date to your friends. Yes that’s right it’s okay to see what your friends think about your date! Just don’t hold your friends opinion to heart if they don’t like the person you’re dating. Ultimately it’s your choice on how you feel about the person you’re interested in.

3) Let your date know about certain family members and friends that may cause or have a prospective problem with your date. You know the family member or friend who does not think anyone you date is good enough for you and their attitude is usually very negative. Let your date know what to expect and that this would be normal behavior for that particular person. That way your date won’t be surprised if your family or friend is negative towards them. This will hopefully ease a potential problem brewing for your date prior to them meeting people they don’t know.

4) Make sure your date will be comfortable or is actually ready to meet your family and friends. If they’re not, then hold off on them meeting them. You want to make sure that your date is ready to take that leap and you don’t want to push them into doing something they’re not prepared to do. Take it slow, you’ll eventually get there. Remember, patience is a virtue!

5) Anything else you can think of to prepare your date to meet your family and friends. Just make sure your date is prepared to meet the other significant people in your life.

Meeting your family and friends can be an interesting and informative experience for your date. It can also be a challenge to your relationship that could possibly be a relationship ender. That’s why it’s important for you to give your date some background information on your family and friends. Think about the two of you, it’s your relationship and you both must be happy with each other. So, follow your heart and you’ll both make the right decision about each other before and after your date has met your family and friends.

What Digital-SLR-Photography Is All About

Friday, July 4th, 2008

The cameras of the past did not have that much clarity or depth. Even with the development of the lens which allows the user to focus in on images, this did not yet make photographers completely satisfied after a take.

Fortunately, the digital age has brought about the creation of the SLR camera. This single reflex unit allows the user to produce quality images from pressing the button till it comes out when it has been developed.

The SLR is quite expensive. One unit costs about $5,000 and upgrading the lens to reach farther will be another expense. This is probably why many advise to have this insured in case this gets lost or damaged.

Here are some of the known brands of SLR camera’s worth checking out in the market.

1. The first is the Nikon D2x digicam. Though its features are almost the same like others in the market, it comes with a GPS recorder so that the person can remember when and where it was taken so this can be done again.

The pictures can be downloaded to a laptop so the pictures can be printed or developed in the store.

2. Another great SLR camera is the Canon EOS-1DS Mark 2 Digicam. This model enables the person to shoot in any environment. This has better shots per second than the first one mentioned which is great for shooting moving objects.

3. The Kodak DCS Pro is another camera worth checking out. This lightweight model can use Nikon accessories and lenses to be able to get those shots that other units cant.

These units are just one of many that are available in the market. The price of each are not that far apart so it will really depend on how comfortable the user is. Some hobbyists have used one brand for a number of years and decided to stick to it.

In order to keep these in good condition, the owner must also know how to properly store or clean these items. The cover must always be placed on the lens when not in use and should be wiped after each use.

Some people who are not happy with the cover can use a filter which is better protection from dirt, fingerprints or crashes.

A lot of stores usually sell the SLR camera with a bag but others usually buy a bigger one to hold other equipment and accessories.

The digital SLR camera is one innovation that is here to say. Though it may hurt the pocket in getting one, the shots taken will be rewarding.

Squirrel Meat - Delicious but Deadly?

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

One of my favorite movies is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. There is one particularly funny scene in which a squirrel has hitched a ride inside the Griswold house sequestered in the tree Clark has set up. The squirrel is discovered and makes a run for it, causing chaos and panic among the fleeing main characters.

Amid the confusion, Clark turns to his wife’s cousin Katherine and asks her, “Where is Eddie, doesn’t he eat these d?!$#% (expletive deleted) things?” She replies, “Not lately, he heard they are high in cholesterol.”

I have for some time taken that statement as truth. However, I have recently been doing research on the movie and came across this information.

According to the USDA nutrition database, 100 grams of “Game meat, squirrel, cooked, roasted” contains only 121 mg of cholesterol. This compares quite favorably to 1 cooked whole egg at 213 mg cholesterol, 1 cup of raw oysters at 120 mg. and one 5oz can of canned boneless chicken at 88mg. Most vegetable products, of course, contain little to no cholesterol.

This clearly shows that squirrel meat is no more laden with life stealing cholesterol than any other meat or dairy product.

How should one go about eating their squirrel bounty? Why, in Brunswick Stew naturally.

Literary humorist Roy Blount Jr. says of the dish, “Brunswick Stew is what happens when small mammals carrying ears of corn fall into barbeque pits.

For those of you not familiar with Brunswick Stew, it is a traditional dish normally prepared with small game including rabbit, dove, woodchuck, and last but not least squirrel.

The stew was first created and served in 1828 and named after the Virginia county in which it was conceived. Numerous excellent recipes are on the internet for Brunswick Stew; probably not a bad one in the bunch.

We can assume that Cousin Eddie would heartily approve of a nice squirrel based Brunswick Stew; especially around the holidays. If you are planning on hosting your own Christmas Vacation Holiday Party please consider making a tasty pot for your guests! As Eddie would say, “It is goooooood Clark!”

The author, John Smith, is a true Christmas Vacation fanatic. He has worn out many copies of Christmas Vacation on VHS tape, Laser disk (Don’t ask…), and DVD as he enjoys watching it year round. His favorite web site is www.melkmugs.com http://www.melkmugs.com where Melk Mugs - Christmas Vacation Style Moose Mugs can be had.

How to Draw Anyone and Make it Look Like the Person!

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Faces are a hard thing for some artists to draw correctly. Artists have a hard time achieving a likeness to the person or model they are sketching. Some would argue that the face is the hardest to master. With a few basic techniques you will begin to understand that you can master the human face and that it is quite possible.

When drawing faces, there are several mistakes that artists often make. The first is to draw a circle or an oval and then stick a nose in the middle of it. Beginning artists often make this mistake. You will see as you come to observe people that your eyes are actually closer to the middle of your face than your nose. If you are drawing a model, you can use the measuring and proportion technique that artists term thumb on pencil. This will help you check your proportions. You will see that proportions on peoples faces differ and are as individual as their personalities. For instance, eyes generally line up with the top of the ears but we have all seen people whose ears seem to be a little higher or lower on the head than others. Realizing these differences can help you achieve the likeness of the person you are drawing.

General proportions for artists drawing heads and faces are found everywhere. They are good to use as a guideline but are just that, a guideline. When you are drawing faces, the smallest details can make or break the likeness of the portrait and can change the whole outlook of the drawing. The mouth, eyes, and nose are some of the areas to look for those subtle differences and what makes a person an individual. Does the mouth edge tip up or down? Is the nose straight, an uppy? How are the crow feet by the eyes? Practice, practice, practice. This old adage says a lot.

If you are having a problem with a particular part of the face, don’t be afraid to practice it over and over again. This may seem mundane but it will really help you achieve a likeness. Sometimes artists will try and exaggerate particular characteristics of a person’s face, such as their eyes. Be careful not to do this or you’ll end up with something that looks nothing like the person you are drawing. Unless you are drawing caricatures, stay away from this.

Lastly, a quick note on hair. Make sure that you treat hair as a mass. Never ever draw each individual strand. This is a beginner’s mistake that often ruins a drawing quicker than anything. Hair can really change the outcome of the drawing so pay particular care to this feature.

BBC “Free Speech Snub” Spawns Rival Independent Today Forum

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Amid fury from the vast majority of its most prolific members last week, the BBC announced that it was changing the format of its online Message Boards. Despite accusations of a deliberate attack on free speech, the “Beeb” stuck to its plan to reduce the number from 5 to 2, and most controversially to prevent members starting their own topics. This has now led to the appearance of a rival “Independent BBC Today Forum” at bbcTodayForum.co.uk http://bbcTodayForum.co.uk

For years regular posters have been complaining at the “nit-picking and totally inconsistent” “Auntie Beeb” attitude of the “Moderators” who were increasingly prone to remove messages from the Board on the grounds that they broke the House Rules, which some claimed they made up as they went along. Far from listening to their public and relaxing their grip, the BBC has clamped down and only topics approved by the BBC can now be discussed.

In the last three days of the old Home News Board members were queuing up to post messages of complaint - direct, accusatory, resigned, sarcastic. One of the normally more pro-establishment posters, nicknamed “Serendip,” wrote “Bitter and twisted doesn’t even begin to describe it, does it? What a insular inward looking bunch of miserabalists and lachrymose drama queens.”

90% of Members Walk Away

The Moderators were just as hectically removing posts so that many topic threads ended up with the title “Hidden,” leaving the topic like a headless chicken with several comments on an unexplained subject.

Messages attacked the BBC in plain terms insisting that it was quite deliberately trying to suppress free speech. Often the accusations linked this with parallel claims of the Blair Government’s clamp down on civil liberties and the Government’s “castration” of the BBC after the Hutton Inquiry.

But now all has gone quiet at the BBC’s main new Message Board, which is more specifically linked to the Today Programme than before. It is estimated that the daily postings now are only about 10% of the previous average on the old Home News board, despite there being only two boards instead of five.

However, the “Mods” are still removing a considerable number of posts, even though they choose the topics. Mentions of the new rival Forum are usually removed. In one message that did remain on view, Richard 3915 wrote “My post about freedom of speech was moderated on the freedom of speech thread. Can you see why I am still very confused?”

Forum with No Moderation

By contrast, the rival Independent BBC Today Forum at bbcTodayForum.co.uk http://bbcTodayForum.co.uk which was created specifically to remedy this situation, states that it has no ongoing moderation and only in the most extreme cases will it remove a message. “We practice what we preach,” reads an opening statement. Moreover it is open 24/7 - 168 hours a week against the BBC’s mere 76 so that night owls can join in the discussions - and “You can start any topic you like, talk about what interests YOU.”

The Forum amusingly claims to have software which automatically changes any profanity into other words - like “I am about to be banned because I am a profane person-off,”

Provocatively, it’s raison d’etre reads, “This is the Forum for Discussions about anything, but especially Current Affairs and particularly those mentioned (or strangely ignored) in the BBC Today Programme.” Found at bbcTodayForum.co.uk http://bbcTodayForum.co.uk ###

The Office (Season 1) DVD Review

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

One of the most refreshing new comedy series on TV, The Office catalogues the inner-workings of a fictional Pennsylvania paper company called Dunder-Mifflin. The name itself alludes to some sort of bureaucratic labyrinth administered by dunderheads, and in reality, it is. Unfortunately, what makes The Office so hilarious is the ability of viewers to relate to the onscreen office culture. The branch office of Dunder-Mifflin viewers are privy to is managed by the politically-incorrect, borderline lunatic Michael Scott (Steve Carell). Using twisted logic to set company policy, worn out clichés as a substitute for leadership, and an endless array of corny group activities to lift employee morale, he creates an office atmosphere that makes the career of Dilbert seem desirable in contrast.

Carell, star of the recent box office hit The 40-Year-Old Virgin, shines in the role of the nutty and eccentric office manager, and his talents are well complimented by Rainn Wilson who plays the part of Michael’s butt-kiss, rule-Nazi lackey, Dwight Schrute. Dwight’s over-the-top antics conflict with the rest of the office, particularly co-worker Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) whom Dwight would like to fire. A charming unspoken office crush between Jim and Pam Beesley (Jenna Fischer) makes for an interesting and recurring subplot. Both Jim and Pam epitomize the remainder of the cast of Dunder-Mifflin employees who come across as logical, well-reasoned, and normal individuals. Normal people stuck in a bizarre world where idiots like Michael and Dwight preside over their working hours. Similar in theme to the equally funny feature film Office Space, The Office provides us with a much more excitable Bill Lumbergh lording over an army of Peter Gibbons-like worker bees. For creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, who first experienced success with the concept in the UK, it’s a recipe for pure, unadulterated laughter.

The Office (Season 1) DVD features six hilarious episodes including the season premiere in which a camera crew arrives at Dunder-Mifflin in order to film a documentary. Naturally, Michael tries to portray himself as a brilliant steward of office productivity, while office enemies Jim and Dwight engage in a series of desk battles. Viewers also get a glimpse of the regular flirtations between Jim and Pam. Other notable episodes include “Diversity Day” in which Michael engages in a feeble and half-hearted attempt to shed light on office diversity, while alienating most of his employees in the process, and “Health Care” in which Michael, afraid of bearing bad news, delegates his authority to Dwight who creates an utter fiasco of the company health care plan.

Below is a list of episodes included on The Office (Season 1) DVD:

Episode 1 (Pilot) Air Date: 03-24-2005
Episode 2 (Diversity Day) Air Date: 03-29-2005
Episode 3 (Health Care) Air Date: 04-05-2005
Episode 4 (The Alliance) Air Date: 04-12-2005
Episode 5 (Basketball) Air Date: 04-19-2005
Episode 6 (Hot Girl) Air Date: 04-26-2005
