Sushi - The Japanese Delicacy

Sushi is a Japanese dish, popular all throughout the world. Sushi lovers, young and old alike, mistakenly think Sushi refers to raw sea fish. Sushi actually means vinegar-flavored rice and the raw food accompanying it are called Sashimi.

Types of Sushi Preparations

There are five kinds of Sushi preparations like Nigiri, Maki, Temaki, Chirashi and Inari Sushis. Sushi rice is the staple ingredient in all of them. The types are determined by the kind of fillings or toppings used. The same ingredients can be served, assembled in both traditional and modern ways.

-Nigiri Sushi is the most popular form of Sushi. It is served with an oblong mound of rice topped by wasabi and a thin slice of egg, seafood or any meat. While the egg is always served cooked, the seafood and the meat may be raw.

-Maki Sushi is served rolled in nori, which is a kind of pressed seaweed. The rice, seaweed and the toppings are rolled into a cylindrical shape using a bamboo mat. The roll is then sliced into various thick and thin pieces. The California and Boston rolls are examples of this Sushi.

-Temaki Sushi is similar to Maki except that it is hand rolled into a cone and is not chopped into small pieces.

-Chirashi Sushi: A rare Sushi, it consists of a bowl of rice with toppings of Sashimi or raw seafood or fish.

-Inari Sushi: Rare than even Chirashi are served as fried pouches of tofu stuffed with rice.

Ingredients for cooking up the best Sushi preparations

Rice: All Sushi preparations use short - grained Japonica rice mixed with a dressing of rice vinegar, sugar, salt, kombu and sake. The right stickiness is its essential quality.

Nori: These are wrappers made from sea weed, a type found in Japan. It is toasted before use. Nori by itself is edible. There are many kinds of ‘nori’ but the best quality is used in Sushi.

Toppings used in Sushi

Fish: For culinary, sanitary and aesthetic reasons the fish eaten raw must be fresher and of higher quality than fish which is cooked. In fact, professionals are employed to select the fish. Fish served raw are sea fish like tuna, mackerel and salmon. Fresh water fishes are cooked and never eaten raw since they are likely to contain parasites. The most valued Sushi ingredient is “toro”, the fatty cut of tuna. Toro comes in many qualities.

Sea food: Squid, octopus, shrimp and various shell fishes are used for sea food.

Vegetables: Pickled Daikon radish, pickled vegetables, fermented soya beans, asparagus, yam, tofu and gourd are some of the topping vegetables.

Red meat: Beef, ham, sausage and horse meat, often lightly cooked, are used for toppings.

Eggs: Slightly sweet layered omelettes and raw quail eggs are used as toppings.

Condiments used for preparing Sushi

The three main condiments are:

- shoyu which is soy sauce

- “wasabi” which is the grated root of the “wasabi” plant. Real “wasabi”, called “hon-wasabi” has anti-bacterial property which prevents food poisoning.

- “gari” which is sweet pickled ginger, cleanses the palette and aids in digestion.

Presentation is most important

Traditionally Sushi is served in an austere style in single or double tone colored plates. In smaller Japanese restaurants, plates are dispensed with, and the dish is had straight from the wooden counter. However in many places, particularly in U.S., a European sensibility has been imparted in to Sushi serving, resembling French cuisine.

Does Your Sales Training Program Address Your Sales Performance Issues? Part 1

Here’s a Proven Method to Target ‘Sales Skill Training’ to Resolve Sales Performance Issues

Sales training programs encompass a variety of necessary components; things like company policies, sales paperwork, CRM/sales force automation orientation, sales processes, company services, sales skill training and product features and benefits.

But when I ask Sales executives and Sales trainers how their current sales training program is aligned with their sales performance issues I get the look of “No speak English’.

Let’s first categorize ‘Sales performance issues’. There are (4) distinct sales performance silos that will effect the overall outcome of any sales team, year in and year out. They are:

% of Sales reps to Quota
Average New-hire Ramp-to-Quota in months
Sales Employee Turnover rate
Time spent versus Result achieved

This is a good place to start in determining what sales skill training to implement to achieve a measurable return on investment. But here’s what will set you apart when you walk the request up to the front office. Start out with the NUMBERS.

That’s right. Take a diagnostic view of your current sales performance silos, one by one.

Let’s look at a real sales performance issue example of ‘Average New-hire Ramp-to-Quota’. I recently conducted a ‘Sales Performance Improvement Blueprint’ web-cast for this sales organization.

The company was hiring 155 sales reps per year. The ultimate objective of any new-hire sales training program is to ramp the new sales rep to Quota. Simply, give them everything they need to effectively reach their monthly sales goal.

So how was this company doing? They were obtaining this ultimate sales training program objective in 7 months. So how does one determine if that training outcome is a ‘Sales Performance Issue’? Let’s take a look.

Step 1: ‘Run the Numbers’ for any realistic ROI opportunity

Each new-hire rep had an ultimate quota of $3500
Sales Cycle was 17 days
Average customer term agreement of 36 months
Average ‘Sub-Quota’ revenue per month during ramp of $1300 (This number reflects the average monthly revenue a new-hire achieves before they achieve quota attainment)

Step 2: ‘Run the Numbers’ hypothetically for a 1 month improvement

In this case, I showed the sales management team what return on investment they would get by helping just 1 sales rep achieve full sales quota in 6 months versus 7 months. Based on their numbers my diagnostic system showed them a ROI of $79,200 just by trimming off 30 days. If they did that for all 155 of their annual new-hires, they could realize $12,276,000.

And that got their attention. So, is it now a worthy sales performance issue to attach pin-point sales training to? Not quite yet.

Step 3: ‘Run the Numbers’ for a Reality Check

The most successful businesses - and certainly, sales departments - have identified their Key Performance Indicators (KPI); individual gateways that directly effect the outcome of a particular process. Then they measure the competency ratios in line with them.

A good KPI example in the sales process might be how many times you advance the first sales appointment to the next phase, whether that’s a demonstration, a site visit, a survey or a proposal. Another KPI is how many times you gain a new customer once the first gateway is passed. And when you do gain a new customer, what’s the average revenue you achieve? And how long does it take to gain a new customer on average; i.e. sales cycle?
How about how long it takes you to gain 1 new sales appointment, defined by sales prospect ‘conversation’? And as a by-product of all this, how many new appointments are needed each week?

We ran these numbers in the system to see ‘if and where’ there were some leaks in the ‘KPI ship’. And here’s what we discovered; not a leak, but a big ‘ole fire hose.

Two ‘KPI issues’ were apparent. First, why does the ramp-to-quota for a new-hire take 7 months when the average sales cycle is 17 days? Second, they were only setting 3 new appointments per week when they needed to set 6, based on their other KPIs. So their sales appointment ‘activity barometer’ was only running at 50%. And that will dictate a longer ramp-to-quota.

Dig a bit deeper in the system and out popped a 6% conversation-to-appointment ratio; they had to conduct 15 prospect conversations to get 1 new appointment.

OK, back to the ‘Reality Check’. Is it realistic to focus on reducing the new-hire ramp-to-quota from 7 months to 6 months for a sales training ROI of $12,276,000 or $79,200 per rep?

You bet it is. These folks needed to address the front-end of their sales process; setting targeted sales appointments. To do that, they needed (1) establish an activity standard to reach quota by month six and (2) develop a sales prospecting methodology and supporting system to spend less time in achieving it.

Then they needed to plug their sales prospecting ’system’ into their current sales training program and work to a weekly sales appointment activity goal to assure a monthly revenue result by month 6.

Step 4: Set the Goal and ‘Train to It’

A sales training ROI goal of $12,276,000 or $79,200 per rep is for sure a worthy one. And the diagnostic system showed us they would meet this goal just by setting 3 additional sales appointment per week per rep; 6 appointments versus 3.

Actually, I lied. The system showed an even brighter picture if the sales appointment activity standard of 6 new appointments per week was met. If they could support their new-hires with a sales prospecting system that could help them achieve 6 new sales appointments per week, they would actually cut their new-hire Ramp-to-Quota by 4 months; from the current 7 months down to 3 months.

And that sales training ROI would be $316,800 per rep or a whopping $49,104,000.

One of the reasons why sales training fails is a failure to define a useful objective. In this case, our diagnostic method has defined a single useful objective for them to train to. And this same diagnostic method can be utilized if you have a ‘Sales Performance Issue’ of an unacceptable percentage of Sales reps reaching Quota each month.

In Part 2, we will take a look at (2) other sales performance issues, ‘Sales Employee Turnover rate’ and ‘Time spent versus Result achieved’ with this same sales management team and see what our diagnostic method to sales performance improvement and ROI turns up.

Are You Physically Fit

It can be tough to tell sometimes whether or not you are physically in shape. To that end, there are some tests that you can perform to ensure that your body is working in its top condition. In this article, we’ll be discussing some of these tests, and explaining what they mean about your health.

The Body Mass Index is one of the most commonly used methods of gauging a persons level of physical fitness. Commonly referred to as a BMI, it is the standard method used by medical professionals when it comes to diagnosing whether a person’s weight is healthy, overweight, or obese. The Body Mass Index operates on a basic formula:

Your weight in pounds x 704.5 divided by your height in inches x your height in inches. The result of this computation should rest between zero and an upper bound of more than thirty. Typically, a healthy weight is calculated to have a BMI of between 19 and 24.9. For a Body Mass Index that hovers between 25 and 29.9, a person is described as being overweight. Body Mass Indexes that have a result that is over 30 represent a clinical case of obesity. Obesity can cause a heightened risk of cancer and heart disease, not to mention a host of other health problems.

Another method of testing for fat content in the body is not used as often as it used to be. The Yuhasz skin fold test has been used by schools to test the health of their students for decades, but it has been cast aside due to the way that it made children feel when the result was less than desirable. The Yuhasz test measures total fat percentage in the body by measuring the layer of fat that is found directly underneath the skin. Various points on the body are tested to ensure accurate testing results, with a total of six test sites being examined to accurately gauge a person’s body composition. The tricep, the abdomen, the front of the thigh, below the shoulderblade, and above the pelvis are tested in all individuals while taking a Yuhasz skin fold test. In males, the chest is also tested, and in females, the rear of the thigh is tested. Calipers are used to determine an accurate measurement of how thick the sub-skin fat layer is, and age, weight and gender all play into the calculation of fitness. The typical male has been found to have between fifteen and seventeen percent body fat, and the average female is known to have between eighteen and twenty two percent body fat. Athletes, known for their fitness, often have fat contents of six to twelve percent for males and twelve to twenty percent for females. These two tests can help you to accurately gauge where your fitness level is at and where you need to get it.

The Magic of Love

Would you like to receive the magic of love? Are you willing to give it? Try this: For one day, consciously make an effort to be loving or kind to everyone you see, with no expectations of receiving anything in return.

For example, compliment, acknowledge, or smile at people at work, home, on the street, and in the stores. Notice how you feel at the end of the day. Your heart will probably feel warmer and bigger. The loving action can make their day as well as yours. It is likely that the people you touch with the magic of love will pass it on to others. You will never know for sure how many people’s lives you have touched with these simple, free, kind acts. Just trust that you are making a difference.

It worked for my client Jerry, a thirty-six-year-old computer engineer. He was surprised when I suggested that he try the experiment. The lonely, single man was complaining to me that people are so mean and nasty. Obviously, Jerry had low self-esteem and poor relationship skills.

I said, Jerry, are you willing to go to work tomorrow with a smile, and acknowledge and compliment people? I do not mean to make up remarks. Just look for something true and positive to say to your boss and co-workers. Notice how you feel and how they respond.

The following week, Jerry walked into my office with a smile on his face. That was the first time I saw that happy expression since his first counseling session. As soon as he sat down, Jerry exclaimed, It worked, Helene! It was amazing! I did what you suggested and everyone responded back in a positive way. The whole office felt different, and now I look forward to going to work. That is a miracle!

I congratulated Jerry for offering the magic of love, and acknowledged his courage and progress. This seemed to be a turning point in his life. I continued to help him feel good about himself with the HART process (Holistic And Rapid Transformation), and improve his communication skills. Before long, he started to date and enjoy social activities.

I have also had great success with the magic of love. When I lived in the country, I used to take regular walks on the dirt road. I smiled and thought the words Bless you as I waved at every car that drove by. Almost everyone responded by sending me back a warm smile and wave. It felt so good to spread caring. What a wonderful world this would be if everyone realized the importance of and took the time to spread the magic of love.

UK Credit Card Tips & General Advice

As Christmas approaches, many of us in the UK will be considering taking out a new credit card to purchases those all essential gifts. With a plethora of card offers out there, deciding which card,if any, is best for you can seem a little daunting

What follows are some useful tips and advice that hopefully will help make your decision a little easier and clearer.

Loyalty/Bonus Cards

As people’s circumstances vary so do the credit card deals on offer. If you intend to clear your bill each month, the interest rate on your card becomes irrelevant as you won’t have to pay it. Therefore you should consider going for a card that offers some form of loyalty bonus such as redeemable points, cashback or air miles.

Interest-Free Offers

These cards are particularly useful for those don’t clear their balance each month. Shop around for cards that offer 0% interest on balance transfers and purchases. The length of these offers tend to vary, so choose one that is appropriate to you needs i.e whether you intend to use the card mainly for purchases or a balance transfer.

Some cards allow you up to 59 days to pay for purchases before being charged interest on them, thus giving you some breathing space to pay for your goods or/and services.

Special Offers

One way to save money on your card debt is to take advantage of the many debt-transfer offers available from most banks. These offers are usually exclusive to new customers and allow you to pay off your debt from a more expensive card at a lower rate for a limited period.

Cash

Although you can withdraw cash from ATM’s with your credit card, it is best left as a last resort as, although convenient, you will pay for the privillage through a steep interest rate.

Plus Points

Using the plastic to pay for expensive items such as jewellery, electrical goods or goods bought online, gives you the piece of mind of consumer protection i.e under the Consumer Credit Act, the card company are liable ( as is the seller of said goods or services) if there is a breach of contract.

This is especially handy if the goods either arrive faulty/damaged or don’t arrive at all due to the supplier, for example, going bust. If any of these scenarios were to arise, you should have the money spent redeemed to your credit card.

Charges

Most cards will levvy a charge against you if you fail to pay your monthly repayment on time, with penalties usually around £20. You will also incurr a charge if you go over your set credit limit. Setting up a direct debit to make your monthly payment will eliminate the possibility of being late with your monthly payment and thus avoid that nasty charge.

What Card Then?

Deciding what credit card to apply for really depends on your personal circumstances and requirements.

If, for example, you intend to do some serious short-term shopping, a card that offers, say six month interest free on purchases, would be more suitable.

If you know in advance you wil be unable to clear the balance in the short term, then a card that offers a low rate for the lifetime of the balance, would be suitable as you will save a graet deal in interest paymnets compared with a card that resorts to a higher rate after any offers expire.

If you are able to clear your balance each month, then going for a card that offers rewards, such as cashback on purchases, would be most prudent.

Networking & Business Advertising - Soft Sell or Hard Sell?

Imagine being able to reach 1000s of business people for the fraction of the cost associated with general advertising. Well now you can use online networking platforms dedicated to businesses.

Many online platforms have dedicated areas where business people can advertise their services for free once they are a paying member. In Ecademy we have Marketplace which was a lot more powerful when the adverts were shown on the front page than it is now.

The best way to start on these sites is to participate in the discussion on the blogs page and slowly work your way towards advertising your wares in their marketplace. There is nothing worse than to join a site, plaster it with adverts for a few weeks and then leave never to be heard of again!

The worst thing you can do is to advertise your business in areas that are designated for blogging only. In Ecademy we have the Blogs area where it is OK to talk about business and non business related issues but is frowned upon by the members when they create what is known as a blogvert - in essence this is a shameless plug which makes almost no attempt at hiding the advert for their products.

Most of these sites promote soft selling as opposed to hard selling tactics.

In a nutshell what this means is that when you join do not blast your proposition to each and every member but rather try and entice them into asking about your business and what you can do for them. Do not be too pushy or manipulative. Realise that most people who join these platforms have also got businesses and that they will be trying to make contacts with potential buyers as well.

I believe in the theory of random connections. Basically what I mean by this is that one should not purely base their networking on the basis of potential business but rather focus on making decent connections and contacts. Strive to help other people and you never know who might in turn return the favour… if not now maybe in many years to come.

The art of online networking is to not to expect too much too quickly. The benefits will accrue over time and many years. Some people make the mistake of trying online networking for a few weeks and then giving up because they did not achieve any positive results. It takes time to build trust amongst other members especially the long serving ones who have seen many new people come and go.

I first tried my hand at online networking in June 2006 and quickly realised that normal rules of business do not apply. The best way to enjoy yourself on these types of platforms is to try and make friends. Business will come later… and rest assured it will come if you participate in the blogs and clubs.

Be enthusiastic and helpful, listen and join in the discussions but beware… do not let online networking take over from normal day to day business chores that still have to be carried out. It is far too easy to change networking to notworking!

Do you know any other platforms that allow businesses to advertise their wares? How has your experience been so far of business networking platforms? Have you got any tips for newbies ?

Illinois Foreclosure Listing Tops 11,000 Addresses, Governor Steps In!

Illinois foreclosure listings represent the fourth highest in the country. California is at the top of the list with 32,500 followed by Florida with approximately 27,000 listings and Colorado at roughly 11,000 filings. Combined with Illinois, these four states account for 52% of all homes in foreclosure nationwide.

The staggering foreclosure rates in Illinois prompted Governor Rod Blagojevich to file amendments to HB 4050, the Illinois Predatory Lending Database Program. HB4050 protects consumers fight predatory lending practices by shifting focus on the lenders who offer non-traditional types of loans.

Under the proposed rules for HB 4050, Cook County first time homebuyers and owners opting to refinance their primary residence will be recommended for financial counseling if the loan they are considering contains any of the following provisions:

* Permits interest-only payments;
* Allows payments that results in negative amortization;
* Total points and fees payable by the borrower exceed 5% of the amount of the mortgage;
* Approval of the loan relies on the stated income of the borrower;
* A pre-payment penalty is included; or
* The financing transaction includes a second lien on the property, often known as an 80/20 loan.

HB 4050 main purpose is to alert consumers that subprime lending practices can lead to financial ruin. Todays housing market focuses so much on the credit history of the homebuyer, and with some homebuyers who have had past credit issues, spotty employment or not enough funds for a down payment — some lenders have gone to great lengths to get their business. However, this practice is costing the same homebuyer way more than they can afford - without them even realizing it. By enacting HB 4050, these same homebuyers will be instructed and informed regarding the types of loans available, the type of loan they are considering and what it means to their financial future. Many of these items are not currently provided by the lenders who practice subprime loan lending.

Luckily, Governor Blagojevich has an eye on his Illinois homebuyers and the lenders who serve the Illinois residents. Currently, HB 4050 is in the pilot program phase and is being piloted in Cook County. Illinois residents outside of Cook County should expect to see it offered to them also in the near future. The governors’ mission is to see the Illinois foreclosure listings numbers drop and this is a great start to realizing that mission.

Fijian Honeymooning

Fijian accommodations offer sun drenched beaches, friendly attitudes and crystal clear water. For a honeymoon, Fijian accommodations are simply one of the best options available for romance, seclusion and sun.

Fijian Honeymooning

Fiji is a group of islands that are officially known as the Republic of the Fiji Islands and it is located in the southern Pacific Ocean. Fiji is an archipelago that contains 322 islands and 522 islets, but only 106 of these are permanently occupied. The capital city of Fiji is Suva, and this city is located on the island of Viti Levu - one of the two most populous islands in Fiji. Vacationing in the islands of Fiji can be a romantic and very private experience, and the many Fijian honeymoon packages offer couples a great way to take their first trip as man and wife.

All Fijian honeymoon suites and rooms are perfect for couples who want to have an exotic and unique honeymoon vacation. One of the most luxurious and romantic destinations on Fiji is the Vatuele Island, a five star accommodation located on a Fijian island that is completely surrounded by a coral reef. Situated on three quarters of a mile of white sand beach, the Vatuele Island has a few strict policies for their guests. They include no telephones, TVs, cash transactions (charge to your room), newspapers or even shoes! This combination of relaxed atmosphere and no outside invasions make this resort a great place for lovers who want to shut out the world. Additionally, since there are only 18 bures (bungalows) located at the resort, there is a sense of personalized service and luxury that’s not always found at other hotels. The many different types of cuisine, some served in a cave or on a lagoon, make this destination very appealing to those who want a full sensory experience.

Another great Fijian honeymoon package is located at the Lalati on Beqa Island. This destination, which is situated on ten acres of white sand beach in a rainforest setting, has only seven bures - which makes for a very private honeymoon spot. Activities at the Lalati include such water sports as scuba diving and canoeing, and a spa on the premises allows couples to have a relaxing massage or dip in an infinity pool.

Choosing Fiji for your romantic honeymoon is a great choice. This beautiful Pacific island nation offers atmosphere, climate and amenities that are perfect for couples who want to spend some time really getting to know each other, and be alone to just enjoy each other’s company. Fijian honeymoon packages are so idealic, they are third most popular choice amongst all honeymoon destinations.

Bad Credit Unsecured Loan- Despite, Financial Respite

It is the changing nature of man that he is susceptible to forget things in between. It happens more often than not, of taking various loans as per ones requirements; the man defers repayments due to lacking financial planning. Or, there are some who wish not to place any thing, still for availing a loan. For, the lending authority has configured a bad credit unsecured loan. This loan is offered without any sort of security placing.

Individuals having adverse credit history i.e., CCJs, IVAs, bankrupts, arrears, and defaulters attest special attention to the bad credit unsecured loan. Although, provisioning contains credit evaluation and borrowers’ repayment capacity and capability, owing to many lenders in money market for this loan gives a good attention to has shortened the processing time of the bad credit unsecured loan.

Amount raised by the lending authority under the bad credit unsecured loan is a minimum of £3, 000; this amount can be further increased up to £25, 000 too at best. The benefits of these loan amount borrowers get a period from 5 to 10 years.

This sanctioned amount is invested into various purposes of an individual. Renovation and improvement at home, children’s higher education, infrastructural development at businesses etc., are some of the benefits of the bad credit unsecured loan. More so, an act of debt consolidation under the bad credit unsecured loan too, is one of the best debt management a solution comes within the parameters of this loan.

In order to cover up the insurance of the bad credit unsecured loan, lenders charge a bit higher to other loans, as no collateral has been placed as of borrowers’ security. Lenders do not ask borrowers to offer any asset as security against bad credit unsecured loan offered. Lenders rely on borrowers’ profile, evaluate through information such as employment history, income level, recommendations, final payment of any previous loans etc. however, if a borrower defaults on a bad credit unsecured loan, the lender has no priority claim against any particular property of the borrower. The lender can try to obtain just a money judgement against the borrower. In such loans, the risk element is the highest for the lenders. Such lenders compensate their increased risk by offering lower amount and by charging a little higher interest.
