Kids And Energy

I’m not sure why, maybe because it’s summer, I’m getting a lot of questions and stories about kids and energy. I’ll put them all under that broad category but there have been several different subcategories discussed: kids and ADHD, kids and anger management, and kids and computers.

Kids and ADHD

Let’s start with kids and ADHD. There seems to be a big trend here in the US of drugging our children so they can “control” their behavior in school. I am NOT in favor of this practice.

Why is there such an epidemic of ADHD diagnoses in our children? I don’t want to oversimplify but I believe one reason is that our children don’t have the opportunities they had in previous generations to run around and expend their energy.

In years past, kids got to play in the parks, in the streets and in their own yards. Today, that happens less and less. Parents are too afraid to allow their children to be outside unsupervised, and rightly so! There are predators out there who would do your children harm. However, kids still need to expend their energy, somehow.

So, many times the activities available to them at home are sedentary, such as playing video games, watching television, talking on their cell phones or using the home computer. None of this provides opportunity to release energy, unless your children are like my niece who paces vigorously while talking on the phone.

Then we send them to school and expect them to sit down and be quiet. In addition, many schools are reducing the amount of physical education time for our kids and I’ve even seen recently that some schools forbid children to run at recess or use certain playground equipment because they fear of physical injury lawsuit. Is it any wonder our children are having difficulty?

Now I know there are parents and teachers out there who have stories of children who have been helped immensely by the addition of Ritalin, Adderall, Concerta or Dexedrine to their daily diet. If you know a child who is being helped by his or her medication, I’m not saying to discontinue it but for every child who is being helped, I believe there are at least three others who are still exhibiting all the ADHD behavior the medication was designed to reduce.

There have been studies done on placebo medications that show that in double blind studies, when neither the patient nor the doctor knew whether the patient was getting the actual drug or the placebo, the ones getting the placebo actually did better. Is it possible there is a placebo effect with some children?

If your child displays what you or the teachers believe is an excessive amount of energy, do your best to create situations where that child can expend energy. I have two boys who could both have been diagnosed with ADHD as children. They were very physical. Luckily, I lived in the country during a time when parents sent their kids out the door to simply “play.” I also spent a lot of my spare time running them around to different athletic events-YMCA soccer, wrestling, flag football, T-ball, basketball, you get the idea. This definitely helps.

Kids and Anger Management

I spoke with a woman over the weekend whose son is 10 years-old and she says has anger management issues. We didn’t really get into his specific behaviors but it caused me to reflect on some inherent differences between males and females.

I think that from very early on, boys and girls deal with their anger differently. As a general rule, girls need to talk about it to feel better, while boys need to work it out physically.

So if you have daughters, you want to teach them verbal skills to be able to work out their frustrations but with boys, you will need to provide opportunities for them to work out their anger physically-maybe with a punching bag, racquetball, running, or martial arts. The list of possibilities is truly endless but don’t expect your boys to “talk about it,” at least not until they’ve had the opportunity to release the anger in a safe physical manner.

Kids and Computers

This week, a mother contacted me about her child disobeying her limits with the home computer and sneaking time beyond her allowed limit.

In this situation, the mother had a need to protect and nurture her child. She wants to be able to loosely supervise her daughter’s time on the computer to possibly prevent her from falling prey to adults who victimize children by finding their victims on the Internet. She also wants to support her child’s need for physical activity so she restricts her computer usage and encourage outside physical activities instead. Is this mother wrong? Absolutely not.

Her daughter, on the other hand, has a desire to be on the computer. All her friends are on there and want to know why she isn’t. They don’t have limits while this girl does. This girl is quite accomplished on the computer and can build website pages for her friends. She also has a high need for freedom and doesn’t like being restricted and the computer is plain fun to her. She gets her love & belonging, power, freedom and fun needs met with the computer. Is she wrong? Absolutely not.

How does it get resolved? I think the way to resolve this issue is for the mother and daughter to sit down and talk about what each other needs and wants in the situation. If the child can convince her mother that she has the skills and knowledge necessary to protect herself from predators and she agrees to engage in other healthy activities each day, then her mother could relax her restriction on the amount of time she has on the computer.

In this case, and many others like it, the daughter wouldn’t be able to meet her freedom need with the computer if there wasn’t a rule to break. Sometimes we create the very behavior we are trying to stop with the rules we make. When a person has a high need for freedom, they will inevitably break the rules, particularly the ones they don’t like or that don’t make sense.

Just My Luck with Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan’s career is at an all time high. She keeps the movie’s interesting and she is very voluptuous. She has become a teen idol, that has been able to reach success with her songs and acting career. Paris Hilton is trying to acheive similar status, but I doubt she will reach the top like Lindsay Lohan.

Just My Luck is the type of movie that will appeal to young people as well as troubled adults. If you have ever felt, like you have the worst luck in the world, then you will be encouraged by this movie. Jake Hardin(Chris Pine) plays a ticking time bomb of never ending failure, until he meets Ashley Albright (Lindsay Lohan) with a magical kiss.

Whatever Jake Hardin(Chris Pine) trys to do, he ends up almost killing himself and being a total embarrassment to the band he is trying to promote. Lindsay Lohan plays the luckiest girl in the world. Her friends sit back and watch as her life unfolds into a fairy tale. She wins money playing scratch off tickets and wins the admiration of her boss.

Lindsay Lohan single-handedly wins the trust of a big music producer, while her boss and the other associates remains trapped in an elevator. Once the boss shows up for the meeting, the music producer has already agreed to have them host his music party. Lindsay Lohan’s boss is so impressed, that she gets to make the party plan preparations and gets her own office.

Guys will like certain parts of the movie, being that it is a chick flick. Mainly the parts with Lindsay Lohan and lets face it, she is the only reason a guy would watch this movie. Is this movie a winner? Unfortunately, it is not a winner. She was much better in, Freaky Friday , where she was playing in a cool band.

This movie is predictable and you know early on that something is going to go wrong for her. Lindsay might want to look at playing a role as a prostitute, because she has been playing the nice sweet girl in all of her recent movies. What she does in her personal life, might make a better movie. She seems to be very far away from the Mickey Mouse Club!

If you paid to see this movie in the theater, I feel sorry for you, because you were robbed. Not just robbed of your dignity, but robbed financially! Even her other movies were some what bearable, but this movie was like rolling naked down a hill of broken glass! One movie-goer on line said, no surprises, it’s as bad as you expected. When I read that comment in the imdb.com movie review section, I started laughing. This movie is painfully boring!

At one point in the movie, Jake Hardin(Chris Pine) is attacked by the feces of some pigeons. This whole movie was attacked by pigeons and covered in dung! The movie, just could not get the wings to fly on its own. The wings were broken from the start! When I was done watching this movie, I said, Just My Luck ! It would have been refreshing if the movie, had some imagination vs utter boredom! Cutting raw onions would have been more pleasing than watching this movie. Not to mention, I would have had a good reason for crying!

Can Walt Disney save Lindsay Lohan’s career choices? Will she choose another role, that only a pigeon will fly over? Will Lindsay play the bad girl, that she really wants to be? This comedy will leave you looking for a qualified therapist. Someday we will be watching some old movies on Lifetime network, where Lindsay is running a homeless shelter in New York City. I am hoping she will be serving cream filled twinkies!

Writing a Memoir: Should You Do It?

With the tremendous success of such memoirs as Frank McCourt’s Angela’s Ashes, Mary Karr’s The Liar’s Club, and Dave Eggers’s A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, the 1990s and early 2000s saw an explosion in the genre. The boom was seen in the number of memoirs acquired by publishers, the number of titles shelved in the memoir section in bookstores, and, as a result, the number of memoirs unfolding on writers’ computer screens across the country. But the brutal truth is that without a few crucial elements, your memoir will have no chance of finding a literary agent’s representation, never mind becoming a bestseller.

It might help to consider a question that’s always puzzled me: What’s the difference between a memoir and an autobiography? Webster’s defines a memoir as “a narrative composed from personal experience” and an autobiography as “the biography of a person narrated by himself or herself.” (The second definition of “memoir” is “autobiography,” indicating just how blurry the line is.) I think of a biography as a life story–a full life, that is, unofficial “biographies” of Paris Hilton or Justin Timberlake aside. Most memoirs, by contrast, don’t begin at the author’s birth and provide a thorough chronological history of a life now in its twilight years.

Memoirs are, of course, written by authors of all ages, and their narratives can encompass fifty years or one week of experience. The first element necessary to a successful memoir is that experience. Lots of us have led interesting lives, or had unusual experiences. But not all of those interesting lives and unusual experiences are memoir-worthy. At the same time, the life experience you want to write about doesn’t need to be earth-shattering to be the basis of a successful book–if you’re a good enough writer. Whether your memories should jump from your head onto the pages of a memoir is difficult to judge when you’re the one whose life’s literary value is in question. If you didn’t think it was worth writing about, you wouldn’t be thinking about a memoir in the first place. But it’s a judgment you must make honestly and objectively if you don’t want to waste a lot of time writing a manuscript that will never sell.

So how do you know if your idea is a book in the making? Try to gain some distance and look at it as a potential reader. Would you pick such a book up off the shelf if it were about a total stranger with no other claim to fame? Would you read the description on the book’s flap and be intrigued? Or would the words “Oh, it’s another person who…” enter your mind? Jaded and insensitive as it may seem, agents discard query letters all the time uttering the words “another victim of abuse” or “another recovering alcoholic” or “another cancer survivor.”

That’s not to say that if you fall into one of those categories, or another that encompasses a lot of people and has seen a lot of memoirs published, you should abandon yours. But you need to bring something new to the table, whether the experience itself is different from everyone else’s or the way you tell it is. And, unless you’ve led a truly wacky life, more likely it’ll have to be the latter. How to make it different? Well, that’s the hard part. And the part you’re going to have to figure out on your own.

As with any genre in today’s book market, publishers are more likely to acquire a memoir if its author has a platform, i.e., comes with a built-in marketing plan. While writing the book, start a blog discussing the experience or issue about which you’re writing. Become affiliated with any advocacy organizations, etc., who might help promote your book. It’s tough out there if you’re not a celebrity or an author with a track record. For every Dave Eggers, a thousand memoirists can’t even clear the hurdle of finding an agent. This week, publishers bought memoirs by a Washington Post columnist, Cary Grant’s daughter, the former head of a record company and the Air America radio network, and a woman with a New York Times bestseller to her name. But take heed: another author sold a memoir “about a typical divorce transformed by a lyrical yet brutally honest voice and narrative style.” That author figured out how to tell an old story in a new way.

As important as marketing is, the memoir, perhaps more than any other genre, depends for its success on one simple thing: writing skill. Too many people make the mistake of thinking that fascinating experiences make for fascinating reads, no matter who writes about them. If you’ve never written before, take some classes. Work on your book in a workshop or in a writers’ group. And if you look in the mirror and see someone who doesn’t have the writing chops to tell their story right, contract with an experienced ghostwriter or coauthor to help out. After all, everyone has lived a story, but only a select few have both the right tale and the right talent to create a winning book.

Tips For Successful Carp Fishing In Summer And Winter

Summer

Talk to any angler and they can expound for hours on the joys of carp fishing, whatever the time of year, but summer has got to be a favourite time. It’s tranquil, relaxing and exciting all at the same time. Here are some tips to help make your carp fishing even more enjoyable.

• Summer is a good time to try out new baits, rigs and ideas of your own

• If you are a regular at a particular water, study the fish movements to see if you can establish any patterns that might give you a clue as to where to fish on future occasions

• Look for obvious feeding grounds, for example, beneath overhanging trees and amongst weed beds

• Carp are very active in the summer months, enjoying the sun as much as we do, so eventually they will give themselves away

• Try choosing a bait which is similar to the natural foods that are around in abundance at this time of year, such as fruit and nuts

Winter

The once plentiful natural food will disappear during winter, so carp will try to gain as much weight as possible to help them survive the harsh weather. As with any cold blooded animal, low temperatures will slow them down a great deal, so it’s a good idea to locate the carp before you set up and start fishing.

As far as baiting is concerned, try to adopt the little and often approach, offering about 15-30 baits over a session. Loose feed these a couple at a time at regular intervals of about 30 minutes and try not to spread the bait around too much. As in the summer, it’s a good idea to try using bait which is similar in flavour to what is around naturally. Swan mussel and crayfish are still active at this time of year so if your venue contains these, try something like this.

Dog Lane Fishery, near the village of Napton in Warwickshire, has a carp lake which responds well all year round to anglers looking to catch big fish. They have comfortable pegs and ample car parking. Visit their website now by clicking on doglanefishery.co.uk http://doglanefishery.co.uk

Freelancing as A Career Option

Home bound workers can either consider telecommuting or freelancing. While telecommuting may keep you out of your home for some hours a week, online freelancing is a good way to make money if you are forced to stay at home. For example, homemakers, part-time students, retired folk, or others who wish to supplement their income from jobs or businesses can all consider freelancing.

Freelance Skill Sets

You can start earning as a freelancer as long as you have skills that someone is willing to pay for. For example, writers, web designers, photographers, and programmers can earn a substantial income by creating articles, websites, portfolios and software from home. The Internet is a hot and viable source of income for freelancers from around the world. Your target customers can be webmasters, online business owners, blog owners etc. For example, blogs and wikis are hot sources of income for freelance writers nowadays, and there’s no reason why you can’t tap into this market if you possess good writing skills.

Freelance Income

On the flip, your income may fluctuate from one month to another. As with all businesses, freelancing does not guarantee a stable paycheck at the end of the month. So keep a small kitty reserve for dry days or have another source of income for which you can work part-time. Be prepared to accept boring, low-level work initially just to keep the cash flow strong. Once you get a good reputation for providing original, high-quality work at reasonable price, then clients will flock to you.

Freelance Advantages

Probably the best thing about freelancing is that you get to work at your pace, in your own hours, from home, and be your own boss. That means, your shop is open 24×7. And as long as you provide good quality work and meet deadlines, your clients will remain happy with you.

In order to be visible, you also need to be seen and heard in the right places, like forums, blogs, online groups, etc. Spend time everyday to visit such sites because they are invaluable repository of freelance gigs and email addresses of prospects. Alternatively you can sign up with freelance sites like Elance.com, GetAFreelancer.com and Scriptlance.com where you can start bidding on projects and snag a few as early as today!

To conclude, a freelance business is one of the best ways to earn money from home and to work for your own self. If you’ve got a fair amount of time on your hands, maybe you too should consider freelancing as your full-time career alternative or supplementary income source.

(Hint: While you can find plenty of lucrative freelance assignments on Elance, the other sites mentioned above generally tend to feature lesser-paid projects. However, if you’re just starting out as a freelancer, the competition on Elance can prove to be really tough. So you might want to first try GAF and Scriptlance to build up your portfolio, and then go for Elance.)

How To Install A Motherboard

(Important make sure you read through this guide before you begin installation of your new motherboard.)

The motherboard is the largest and one of the most important components of your computer. It’s reliability and health is utmost important.

Once you have picked out and purchased your motherboard you are ready for installation.

Carefully remove the motherboard from the box, do not remove it out of the ESD (electro static discharge) bag. Do a quick inventory to make sure you have all of your parts. Most likely you should have all of you IDE cables for the hard drive and cdrom, and possibly I/O plate. If you purchased a motherboard that support ATA hard drives you should have those cables.

Once you have verified that you have all the parts, pick up the user manual, and read through it, you don’t have to read it from cover to cover but you want to familiarize yourself with the motherboard, in addition many motherboard manufactures will also include a quick installation guide so take a look at that also.

Now you are ready, your work area should be clean and static free. Put on your anti static wrist band, if you have one. A anti static wrist band is just basically a cloth wrist band that has a snap on stretchable cable that is grounded, the grounded surface area helps keep electrostatic discharge in control.

Remove the motherboard from the box and all of the parts. Then remove the motherboard from ESD bag and lay it inside the empty box. Cut open your ESD bag on each side and turn it inside out so that you can lay your motherboard inside of it. Just laying your new motherboard on top of your ESD bag is not enough protection from electro static discharge.

Prepare your computer chassis. If you have already installed and mounted your power supply, tie the power cords out of your way with some wire ties, or some Velcro. You need a clear path from the opening of your chassis to the bottom of your chassis, where your motherboard will be mounted.

Something’s you need to think about before you drop your new motherboard into your chassis is, cooling. Depending on what type of processor you have purchased, the processor may run hot. So you have to think about good ventilation for your chassis. Heat can destroy your new investment in a matter of hours. If you do not already have at least two exhaust fans on your chassis you may have to think about actually cutting a hole either at the top of your chassis or on the side to mount the exhaust fans. Ok pick your jaw off the ground; it’s not as bad as it sounds. If you have a dremel with a cutting blade it can be very easy. Use an old CD as a template and draw around the CD with a washable marker. Then just follow the line with your dremel. Now you don’t have to do this, you can buy a chassis with plenty of exhaust fans already installed, so that is something to consider when you are in the process of buying all of your parts.

Now let’s get back to installing your new motherboard. Once you have a clear path to the bottom of your computer chassis, make sure that you have your bag of screws handy, and a long neck Philips screw driver. Take a look at the motherboard mounts, they are installed inside your chassis, these are the mounts that you will align with the holes on the motherboard. If you do not have any mounts you will have to installed them your self. The hardware should have come with your chassis if your chassis is new; if not make sure you save your screws, when you remove your old mother board.

Remove the old I/O plate and install the new one, take a look at the manual for reference. Make sure that it is secure. Look at the mounts that are on the bottom of your, chassis you want to make sure that you line up the mounts with the holes that are drilled on your mother board. (Important DO NOT DRILL ANY HOLES IN YOUR MOTHERBOARD) Angle the motherboard so that I/O ports will match with the holes on the I/O plate. There is a good chance that you might need to remove the break away pieces of metal the cover some I/O holes on the I/O plate. It is a good idea to check for proper match before installing the mother board.

As you angle the motherboard towards the I/O plates make sure that mounting holes on the motherboard are lining up with the mounts on the chassis. Gently push the motherboard towards the back of the chassis so that the I/O ports are snug against the I/O plate, and that all of the ports are protruding all the way out.

Once you have the motherboard correctly align with the I/O plate you are ready to mount the motherboard to the chassis with the screws provided. Tighten each screw down so that they are snug; do not over tighten the screws.

Use the manual as your guide and connect the power LED, speaker, reset switch ECT, coming off of the chassis to the F_panel (Front Panel) of your motherboard. Since each motherboard will be slightly different make sure to refer to the manual for exact instruction.

Ok well there you have it. You just installed your new motherboard. Need more information on motherboards, and motherboard form factor like the AT or ATX head on over www.amecomputers.com/form-factor-motherboards.htm http://www.amecomputers.com/form-factor-motherboards.htm

Bass Fishing Pro Tips

In this article I will reveal some bass fishing pro secrets. I’ll tell you about one bass fishing technique that will make bass literally attack your lure! I’ll reveal why the taste and texture of your bait makes a difference, and I’ll tell you what color lures to use depending on the prevailing weather conditions.

First let’s look at how to choose the best color lure. Knowing how to choose the right bass fishing lure will increase your catch dramatically! There are three main variables to consider when choosing your lure: light, water, and what the bass happen to be eating for supper on that particular day.

The amount of light and quality of light will depend on the time of day and the prevailing weather conditions. On cloudy and grey days, lean toward a brighter color lure like chartreuse. On clear sunny days, a white color lure is often a good choice. Surprisingly, as light becomes more scarce, darker color lures seem to work best. Some bass fishing pros recommend using black or grape colored lures as nightfall approaches.

You must also factor in water visibility when choosing the color of your bass fishing lure. And in case you didn’t know, bass have excellent eyesight! According to Bill Dance, A bass’ eye receives five times more light than the human eye and can see forty feet in clear water. In murky water, they can see up to seventeen feet. In muddy water, they can see five to seven feet.

If the water is dark or murky, bright and shiny or flourescent colors will be your best choice to attract attention. When the water is downright muddy like chocolate milk, then flashy, bulky, and noisy baits are your best bet. If the water is clear, you will want to choose natural colored lures that imitate the food found in the bass environment.

Try to determine what the bass are eating and factor that into your choice of bait. Bass eat sunfish, minnows, shiners, bluegill, crayfish, frogs, and insects. But you could add a lot more things to the list. Large bass have been known to eat baby ducklings, rats, and blackbirds. Your shiny and silver or yellow lures will imitate minnows and sunfish. Your greens and browns resemble crayfish and frogs. If you can determine what the bass are biting on, you will always be more successful.

Equally important to the choice of color is the smell, taste, and feel of your bait. According to Bill Dance, Bass can smell eight times better than a dog.

A lot of fisherman fail to take into account the smells that rub off their hands onto their bait. Your hands must be free of the smell of any petroleum products like gasoline, suntan oil, or sunscreen. Insect repellent, nicotine, and the natural oils produced by your skin alert bass that there’s a predator in the vicinity. These man made scents will literally scare away a wary bass. Conversely, coating your bait with a powerful scent like cod liver oil or other fish attractant can make a big difference in the size of your catch.

If you’re a smoker, just remember that when you’re bass fishing, you have got to clean your hands before handling your bait or lure. Bass fishing expert Russ Bassdozer recommends, Just keep a bar of Ivory soap on the boat. It is 99.44% pure, no added perfumes, and it floats if you drop it. The smell of soap, of course, is not exactly a plus either, so you should use some kind of fish attractant to mask or neutralize the negative smells that adhere to your hands.

As for the taste and feel of your bait or lure, it’s important to understand how a bass eats its prey. When chasing a fish, an agressive bass will inhale its prey with its large cavernous jaws. But once inside its mouth, the bass will taste and feel whatever it is it chomped on, and only then will it decide to swallow. If a bass detects a hunk of metal, it will likely spit it out. That’s why you will often have more success with a lure or bait that is gummy or otherwise imitates the feel of something natural like a fish or frog.

Still another good reason for using a fish attractant is that once the bass has your lure in it’s mouth, the scent and taste of the attractant will cause the fish to hold the lure in its mouth longer, says Russ Bassdozer, rather than taste an unadulterated DEET, PVC plastic and L-Serine cocktail and spit it out. This will allow you a couple extra seconds to detect the bass on the end of your line and to set the hook.

OK, I saved the best for last.

Here’s a bass fishing technique that will provoke a bass to attack your lure ferociously! As you know, bass see in color, and some colors are more effective than others depending on various factors. But when a bass sees a bit of red on your lure, it really drives a bass crazy. That’s because a little red on your lure looks to the bass like the blood of injured prey! It’s not surprising that pro bass fishermen will often attach something red to their bait that resembles blood. Adding a sploch of red can double the effectiveness of your lure.

Americans Want Lies

American’s craving for information is driven by partisan confirmation of their own beliefs as apposed to really wanting to hear the truth.

Imagine for a moment that you own a large house. This house has many areas, sectors, positions, and responsibilities. You own this house primarily because you live in it. You contribute a portion of what you earn to the house as does others who live in this house and own it under the same arrangement. Since you are too busy living in your house, you and the other residences elect an individual who’s responsibility is to govern your house and to appoint those capable of taking care of such matters as security, finances, diplomacy with your surrounding houses, and even providing education to the children that live in your house.

Suddenly, you start asking this individual (that works for you and the other residences of your house) questions about the security, education, and diplomatic efforts dealing with your house. At first, this elected employee of yours gives you some information. Then you discover later on that this employee you hired is actually lying to you. What do you do? Perhaps you should tell other residence in the house that he/she is lying because they can not handle the truth or the truth will make them vulnerable to their enemy neighbors.

That isn’t how you would react at all, is it? In fact, you would fire this employee with the likely support of the other residences in your house.

“…and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” These are the words spoken by President Abraham Lincoln on November 16th 1863 in Gettysburg Pennsylvania. It is of this definition that we elect political figures under the title of “Civil Servants”. The very meaning of “Civil Servant” is a Servant or one who serves civilians. In short, someone who is elected to serve you and the other residences of America or the metaphoric house mentioned above. The highest position of a civil servant is in fact the President of the United States of America.

So why is it such a responsibility to stand behind a servant? Since the 2001 attacks on America, a certain duty has been instilled into the minds and hearts of Americans by the media (or “Liberal” Media) and propagated speeches that you must stand behind the President and support his actions. Isn’t this a reversal of roles? Shouldn’t your servants stand behind you?

Recently, I have grown irritated by watching main stream media and seeing how clearly slanted their reporting has been throughout this presidency in issues such as terrorism, the war, and our role in Israel. It is true that mainstream “liberal” media brings week conservatives on television and radio to force an appearance of fair and balanced reporting. Fortunately, we have fair and balanced reporting on the Fox News ( www.foxnews.com http://www.foxnews.com ) channel, right?

Fox New’s is little more than a conservative news network who counters main stream media by packing slanted news, conservative anchors, and airing a commercial every hour reinstating a blatant lie of “fair and balanced reporting”. God help us if a one sided, arrogant, narrow minded, bigot like Bill O’Reilly is the symbol of fair and balanced reporting. (That is my slanted opinion on Bill O’Reilly and I will list sources on that view in a future article.)

Despite the facts that are accessible by any public school educated American citizen at their local library, internet, Library of Congress, and newspaper archives that date back to the 1800’s, Americans still watch news that they agree with rather than supporting news sources that are accurate. In fact, it is this weakness that such characters as Michael Moore ( www.michaelmoore.com/ http://www.michaelmoore.com/ ) ( www.moorewatch.com/ http://www.moorewatch.com/ ) and Ann Coulter ( www.anncoulter.com/ http://www.anncoulter.com/ ) ( www.therationalradical.com/diatribes/ann_coulter.htm http://www.therationalradical.com/diatribes/ann_coulter.htm ) bring in millions of dollars each year from their one sided supporters. It is their intent to entertain and not inform. This is a goal not dissimilar to mainstream media and Fox News.

Since most of you are so used to watching one sided media, you may not quite understand what just happened in the above paragraph. I mentioned a person and listed a pro and con web site next to their names. That is my interpretation of the meaning of “fair and balanced”.

According to Freerepublic.com, in Michael Moore’s movie, Fahrenheit 9/11, “National Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice is depicted in the movie telling a reporter, “Oh, indeed there is a tie between Iraq and what happened on 9/11.” The scene deceptively shows the Administration directly blaming Saddam and his regime for the attacks on 9/11 by taking her comments out of context. The film failed to show the entire statement made by rice which is “Oh, indeed there is a tie between Iraq and what happened on 9/11. It’s not that Saddam Hussein was somehow himself and his regime involved in 9/11. But if you think about what caused 9/11, it is the rise of ideologies of hatred that led people to drive airplanes into buildings in New York.” (CBS News, November 28, 2003 Interview)”

So as right wing activist are marching down the street to pick up a copy of the Anti-Moore (Ann Coulter’s) book, Treason, they are sure to get the truth, right? Think again, these authors and filmmakers are not out to find and publish the truth but rather infiltrate the partisan mind with such propaganda and misquoted statements as this one found at Spinsanity.org.

“Coulter also repeatedly cites quotations out of context from the original source material, implying that reporters reached conclusions that were actually presented by sources quoted in the piece. In one particularly dishonest case, she claims that the New York Times reminded readers that Reagan was a ‘cowboy, ready to shoot at the drop of a hat’ after the invasion of Grenada (p. 179). However, the cowboy quote is actually from a Reagan administration official quoted in a Week in Review story who said, ”I suppose our biggest minus from the operation is that there now is a resurgence of the caricature of Ronald Reagan, the cowboy, ready to shoot at the drop of a hat.””

Unfortunately, such distorted ideas are not placed in people’s minds by classic brainwashing techniques as used in the CIA’s MkUltra ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_MKULTRA http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_MKULTRA ) experiments in the 1950’s and 1960’s but rather this mental infiltration is done willingly by those who seek confirmation of ideals rather than information on truth and those who willing to give money to be lied to.

Among the worst side affect of such deceit is the American public supporting politician’s right to lie. Clearly, I support Michael Moore and Ann Coulter in their right to freedom of speech and freedom of the press ( www.law.emory.edu/FEDERAL/usconst/amend.html http://www.law.emory.edu/FEDERAL/usconst/amend.html ) but I do not endorse a right to lie extended to my servants which serve in political offices.

I have made this statement to several friends of mine who are Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, and Independent saying “I believe when a politician openly and knowingly lies to the American people of political matters that they commit an act of treason.” Well, I stand corrected because I am in fact wrong on the matter. According to LectLaw.com ( www.lectlaw.com/def2/t103.htm http://www.lectlaw.com/def2/t103.htm ) the constitutional interpretation of treason goes as follows:

“The Constitution of the United States, Art. III, defines treason against the United States to consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid or comfort. This offence is punished with death. By the same article of the Constitution, no person shall be convicted of treason, unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.”

But then again, what is war? In recent years, America’s government has formed a habit of waging war against inanimate objects or ideals such as “The War on Drugs” or “The War on Terror”. Under that knowledge, then would Oliver North ( www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB113/index.htm http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB113/index.htm ) be guilty of treason towards “The War on Drugs”? Either way, he always has a home at Fox News ( www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,50566,00.html http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,50566,00.html ).

Oliver North serves as a character (though not a willing participant) in the popular email chain letter that depicts north as warning senator Al Gore about Osama Bin Laden in the 1987 hearings surrounding the Iran-Contra affair. The entire email is deemed a farce by Oliver North himself according to Snopes.com ( www.snopes.com/rumors/north.asp http://www.snopes.com/rumors/north.asp ). The biggest crime committed in circulating this email was not committed by a political figure but rather the ignorant or innocently deceived receivers of the email who have kept this circulating for five years without taking the time to Google “Oliver North Al Gore” ( www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Oliver+North+Al+Gore&btnG=Google+Search http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Oliver+North+Al+Gore&btnG=Google+Search ).

If this country is ever going to reunite in common causes, the American citizens need to unite in learning the truth. That means, watching the news on all channels, reading newspapers of all slants, and researching the facts. If you don’t have time to learn the facts, the least you can do in this effort of learning the truth is not propagate the lies you have not proven to be true.
