Who On Earth Needs Life Insurance On Their Children?

Many people have asked me lately about life insurance for their children or grandchildren.

Let me PREFACE this message by stating that kids DON’T NEED life insurance SINCE nobody is depending upon their income to make ends meet, unless perhaps they are a child TV or movie star. And this is certainly not a subject to dwell on…

But here are a couple of reasons why many parents like to have life insurance on their children that may be worth considering.

I’ll also give you some general QUOTES HERE on various children’s policies and different ideas to consider.

One reason some parents are interested in insuring the lives of their children is to protect against the HIGH cost of final expenses. Many couples, especially those just starting out, could not afford to pay these costs from savings.

But more importantly, most parents couldn’t afford to take the weeks off from work for a natural grieving period. Insurance could allow time for this from a financial perspective. As a parent myself, I couldn’t imagine going right back to work, but without life insurance proceeds, one may have to.

Another reason many parents and especially grandparents insure children, is to guarantee at least some future insurability if there is ever an adverse change of health.

Since life insurance on children isn’t exactly necessary, you have to admit it is PRICED right. Here are a few painless ways to handle it.

One plan is available for children ages 1 month through 20 years old. It is a fixed $20,000 death benefit (no more or less).

The cost for a policy like this might be just $72 per year per child (or $6/month) and covers them through no older than age 25.

IF DESIRED, the policy can be continued for the rest of the child’s life at a cost of $232/year ($21/month) and the policy will begin to accumulate cash value.

Another idea: there are some term insurance policies that a parent can buy on themselves ALONG with a RIDER which can insure ALL children in the household (15 days to age 19).

A rider is just an optional add-on to a policy. Most life insurance policies have at least one or more riders that are available that make the life insurance policy better in some way.

Once bought, the kid’s rider (coverage) will terminate at age 25 or date of marriage — whichever occurs first. So the children would be covered through that time.

The price of this rider for ALL kids COMBINED (again as part of a parents policy) costs about $6 per year for each $1,000 of coverage. For example, if you wanted $10,000 on each of your kids and you had two children, the total cost would be $60 per year (10 times $6). It would cost exactly the same if you had six children.

The parent must buy a policy on themselves covering as little as $5,000 with a whole life policy, or $100,000 on a term policy, in order to get the kid’s rider. Each insurance company may have a similar option — or may not.

The children’s rider cost (above) is simply added to the parent’s policy.

A third alternative is just buying a permanent (cash value) life policy on the child. Policies can be issued from age 1 month through 25 for as little as $5,000 coverage up to $100,000.

For example, a $50,000 policy on 10 year old might cost $279/ year to guarantee that death benefit to age 100 and build an equal cash value at that time.

However, one could also turbo-charge that idea.

When properly set up, a cash value insurance policy could act as a bank for the child as they grow up.

When structured to build cash value, instead of providing a death benefit, a properly designed life insurance policy can be a great place for tax-free savings.

The growing cash inside of the policy could be borrowed to pay for college, provide a down payment for a first home. In effect the child would be borrowing from themselves.

Or the right policy design could even give the child a source of tax-free retirement income. That’s right. Think of it as a ROTH IRA on steroids.

But that is a topic for another article.

By the way, all of the quotes above are from A+ carriers (rated by AM Best where A++ is the only higher rating attainable) and are only included to serve as a guideline. Life insurance quotes are based on many factors, so help from a professional independent agent is important.

So in summation, I hope that the idea of insuring a child’s life is no longer repulsive. There ARE valid reasons to do so. although it would hardly be a financial planning priority.

Making Reading with Toddlers Fun

Reading with toddlers requires a slightly different skill set than reading to babies. After all, toddlers have out grown their fascination with eating their books and hopefully have developed a longer attention span than when they were babies. They can now begin to absorb and enjoy the story lines along with the colorful pictures that they have always liked to see. This provides parents with the opportunity to take their children to a whole new level of adventure with books. Below are some ideas that can help making reading a fun experience for both you and your toddler.

Be sure to select a book that is age and content appropriate for your young child. Every child has his or her level of development–only you know your child best. If a book is over your child’s head, no matter how great this book is, shelf it until your child is ready to appreciate it. It is no fun for anyone to read an interesting book to an uninterested child.

Make your child a part of the story! Use your child’s name instead of the main character’s when reading the book. Instead of “Everybody loves the little gorilla”, make it “Everybody loves Billy” or “Everybody loves Annie.” Incorporate family members in your story too. Instead of “grandma loves him,” and “his aunts and uncles love him,” make it “Nana loves Annie,” and “Uncle John and Auntie Mary love Annie.” Let your child be the little caterpillar; the beautiful flower. You child will enjoy the books more since he is on the center stage of all his books.

Don’t forget the action. It is great fun to act out certain scenes in a story. As you read “Here come clown feet” squeeze your child’s little nose and make a clown sound. And when you read “Here come pig feet” push your nose up and say “Oink, oink.” When you find ways to act out the silly scenes, you and your child will giggle through the favorite scenes of your books over and over again.

Repeat and explain. Now that your child can appreciate the meaning behind the stories, make sure you help your child understand the stories during your reading times. If some of the lines or vocabulary might be new to your child, be sure to take the time to explain what was said in the book using terms and words your child can understand.

Animate your reading voice! Children love high pitched sounds. While it is important to read clearly and slowly, your child will love to hear your special sound effects, your special Papa Bear voice and Little Bear voice. This will further engage your child’s interest in a book.

Get your child to “read” to you. Once a favorite book has been read over and over again, give your child a chance to “read” it to you. Don’t be surprised if the story line is a tenth of what it used to be or even completely new to you. You can point to pictures and ask questions to help your child along, and always encourage and enjoy the story however your child wants to tell it to you. Whether she can really read it or not, your child will have a big smile on her face and be beaming with pride that she can read.

Reading together provides a wonderful way for parents to bond with their children–make it fun too!

Memories and Juke Boxes Go Hand In Hand

I often spent my free time hanging out after school in the poolhall in our small town. Even though it had quite a few business names through the years, it had always been known as the poolhall. Once it had also been a bar but when I was a teen they no longer served alcohol on the first floor. There were a couple of card tables and some pool tables, as well. The number of pool tables was four and they were located in the main area of the room. On the second floor you could get a meal and order alcohol. The pool hall also had two juke boxes which we often used.

Then juke boxes cost fifty cents for 5 songs and my friends and I regularly spent long hours listening to the music while watching the people playing pool. This was my favorite time of the day. After an athletic event all the children would come to the pool hall to play some pool while listening to music. There were also many parents who liked the place. They often went to the upstairs area to have a drink. Even though the second floor was supposed to be less noisy than the first, my friends and I often joked that it was a lot noisier when the parents were there. Parents and children knew where each other were and thus the pool hall had many happy customers. It was the ideal place for a small town like ours. If wondering about the latest news in town, all you had to do to learn it all was to sit in the pool hall.

However, the police was a bit concerned that in the pool hall where there were many children alcohol was served. Even though, alcohol was not offered on the first floor, the police insisted on having some new regulations. Thus, people gradually stopped coming to the pool hall so often and soon the owners got into financial difficulty and finally they had to close the pool hall down. They had an auction to raise some money. The juke boxes were also listed for sale. My friends and I thought it would be a great idea to buy them and place them in a garage and listen to the music. Surprisingly, on the day of the auction the bidding for the jukeboxes went really high, so none of us could afford them.

Soon after the auction we found out that the principle bought one of the juke boxes so that dances at the school are made. This was quite an interesting way to go without a deejay. However, it was great as you can choose what songs you like for free during the dances.

How To Make An Ideal Tropical Home Decor?

Tropical home décor could be one of the most attractive yet relaxing home decors you can find. Its popularity is mainly due to the connotations of sand, vacation and the like which the décor brings and the consequent soothing environment that relaxes people. With the modern-day stressful life, this could be an excellent way to bring tranquility back to our lives.

Tropical home décor is suitable almost for any room in the house including living rooms, family rooms, lanai or the balcony. However the kids’ room may not be suitable, primarily because of the characteristic motif.

The typical tropical home décor motif usually has swaying palms, banana trees, colorful animal or bird prints, leather, upholstered rattan, grass cloth and others which reminds you of the luscious tropics.

The common colors used for tropical home décor are earthy tan, beige, ivory, camel, blues and greens from the darkest to the moss to avocado. Light golden and subtle shades highlighted with black or some deep brown somewhere.

The horizontal lines, usually present in tropical home décor suggests repose are relaxation. And taller elements like trees, plants etc remind you of an island with natural beauty.

Tropical home décor goes best with furniture made from natural elements like bamboo or rattans. These are normally imported from tropical countries like Philippines or any other country in South Asia. These are known for its durability and natural comfort.

The fabrics chosen for a tropical home décor are never stiff and hard. On the contrary they are soft and supple. Ottomans, pillows and other accessories normally will have leafy or jungle designs.

Wood floors go best with tropical home décor. That also light color wood. Chairs and tables are of slightly darker shade. Tiles and stones also give good accent to tropical home décor. Lampshades to be made from cloth which complements the overall appeal.

A tropical home décor can not be complete with out designs and images of the wild. Animal hides could be hung on the wall instead of the usual artwork pictures.

Large plants position in the corner and lighted give a lot of impact to tropical home décor. Accessories are kept to the minimum. A variety of tropical prints strewn about the house is what should be the focal point in the house.

To avoid the home looking too cluttered, small accessories are either done away with or kept to the minimum. Large scale accessories are thought to be sufficient.

Even the window should be with tropics in mind. Bamboo blinds, panels from plantation and matchsticks give a breezy, sunny and light look.

Materials and fabrics used for a tropical home décor s usually light and made from natural fibers. Consequently, baskets, rattan, grass clot, wicker chairs, wall coverings, folding screens and cornice boards are used abundantly.

The artwork for tropical home décor must follow a tropical theme consistently. Use of bold colors like yellow, ivory browns and greens is a must.

Tableware made from stone looks best in a tropical home décor. Table cloth and napkins are made from fabrics that is loosely woven. Sturdy glass ware complement the tropical look.

Food for Good Prostate Health

The prostate gland has a reputation as a health destroyer. Hypertrophy of the prostate gland, which affects nearly every elderly male, strangles the urethra. This troublesome condition makes urination difficult and increases the risk of bladder infections and kidney damage.

However, there are many good foods that may already be a part of your everyday diet that can help thwart the onset of prostate problems.

Tomatoes, watermelons, red grapefruit, papaya and red berries are all great sources of lycopene, a health-promoting plant pigment known for its cancer-battling ability. It also promotes a strong immune system and helps support prostate health in men.

Though fresh are always an excellent option, the lycopene in cooked tomatoes is actually absorbed more readily by the body. It is also your ally in the battle against heart disease.

Quercetin, a flavonoid that forms the backbone of many other flavonoids, may have positive effects in combating or helping to prevent many different types of cancer, including prostate. It also acts as an antihistamine and has anti-inflammatory properties, which may be helpful in relieving the pain of an inflamed prostate.

Foods rich in quercetin include apples, black and green tea, onions, raspberries, red wine, red grapes, citrus fruits, broccoli and other leafy green vegetables, and cherries. Quercetin can also be found in honey and sap, including the type from eucalyptus and tea tree flowers.

It is vital to remember to get a healthy balance of foods to keep your prostate healthy, including antioxidants, vitamin E from nuts and seeds, and drink plenty of clear fluids to help flush the bladder.

Try to avoid caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods. Keeping your weight in check will also help maintain a healthy prostate.

One Epic Flashback

You’ve probably watched a movie where you observe the lead character in a quiet, contemplative moment. It’s not long before you hear a sound similar to a camera and the movie shifts to an event from the past that provides a clue about what is happening to the character in the present.

This is a common technique in storytelling called flashback (analepsis). The use of this technique often adds a sense of mystery to the story. The use of flashback allows the author of the story to interrupt a storyline by taking the reader back in time to a point that helps define the character, setting or plot line. By revealing flashback clues throughout the piece the reader can catch a sense of the struggle that had placed the lead character in such a predicament.

This approach can take an average story and make it much more interesting. By cutting to previous events, the reader becomes more interested in the mystery of the storyline.

Flashbacks work very well for a dramatic storyline because it provides one of the best means of bringing the reader into the life of your character on an emotional level. The reason this seems to happen is because it allows you to enter the thoughts of the character and experience the pain or joy of past experience. This is something that is much more difficult in a story operating on only a forward timeline.

It is true that flashbacks can make the majority of the story confusing, but the concept is a bit like putting a puzzle together - you’re not really sure where each piece fits or what the picture really looks like until the very end. Therein lies the payoff.

The flashback writing technique can also be called back-story, although this technique generally refers to a fully developed story that is typically viewed as a prequel. One of the most widely heralded uses of this technique is Star Wars where three full stories were developed before George Lucas ever filmed his first movie in 1976.

A similar technique to flashback is flashforward (prolepsis). In this scenario, the main character is in a time past and the flashforward shows a bit of the fate that awaits them as the story unfolds. Horror writing often used flashforward as a means of prophesying the fate of their main character.

Flashback remains just one tool in a writer’s arsenal to allow the story to become something epic.

Business is considered the best way to earn your living for most of the people. Unlike jobs, there is nobody to control you as you are the controller. But starting or running a business is not an easy task. As we know that business runs on capital and there must be sufficient flow of capital for a business to function smoothly. A small deficit of capital can lead to big losses. Small business loans are designed to help you avoid such losses through apt cash support whenever you need it.

Small business loans are loans for meeting all your business needs. Whether you want to pay off your creditors or purchase raw materials or buy office space or stationeries, computers, equipments, for transportation purposes or to cater any other need a small business loans serves it all. These loans are easily accessible through online option. In a scenario where no body has enough time to take appointments from numerous loan lenders in the market and meet them, an online option helps borrowers in getting the maximum information in minimum time. Large numbers of online small business loan quotes are available to choose from. To make your life easier, there are online instruments such as comparison tools, debt and repayment calculators and budget planners which could help you get a better understanding of the loan package.

Small business loans offer you money in two forms: one is secured and other one is unsecured. When no collateral is offered to the lender the loan is called as unsecured small business loan. The amount which you can get under this form may be lesser as compared to secured option but it is the best way to support immediate expenses as the approvals are quite faster in absence of collateral valuation. On the other hand if the need is bigger and you need money for longer term, you can rely on a secured small business loan. These loans are easily available to borrowers with a bad credit history or poor credit score.

While considering your loan application a lender will look for your business prospects. You may need to convince the lender that your business will succeed enough to repay the loan on time (when collateral is not there). Along with such information, simply fill in the loan application form with your personal details and requirement and details about your business. The lender will review your application after which he will contact you for further assistance regarding small business loans.

Shopping For Healthy Foods

The grocery store can be a pretyy hazardous place when you’re trying to stick with a healthy diet. It offers both the healthy foods you need as well as the opportunity to buy all kinds of unhealthy foods.

Today we’ll go over some of the basic rules for shopping for healthy foods. You probably know some of them, so think of this as a reminder to follow the rules for them to work.

Never shop on an empty stomach. This is the best way to ensure that you will buy things you don’t need. It is much easier to give in to temptation if you’re hungry.

Read the labels on canned goods. For example, you want to be sure to buy canned fruits that are packed in juice or lite syrup when juice is not available, not heavy syrup. You want tuna packed in water.

Look for the words “hydrogenated”or “partially hydrogenated”. The earlier these appear on the ingredients list, the worse it is. These fats are unhealthy, so avoid them when you can.

When choosing poultry, try to get skinless varieties. Much of the fat in poultry is in the skin. Chicken breasts have much less fat than legs and thighs.

Frozen dinners can be deceptive. Take a look at how many calories they really contain, as well as fat, sodium and cholesterol.

Aren’t getting enough calcium? If milk and cheese really aren’t to your taste, pick up some calcium fortified orange juice. The taste is great.

When buying bread and pasta, look for whole grain products. There is a difference between wheat bread and whole wheat bread.. Also give brown rice a try.

Switch your snack foods. Pretzels, some baked crackers, ginger snaps and angel food cake are relatively low in fat. If you’re watching your salt intake, of course, pretzels should be off the list.

Above all, make a list of the things you really need to buy. You don’t have to rely on your memory, risking the need to go back to the grocery store more often than necessary, and you can better avoid temptation.
