Football Betting Myths

Given the massive popularity of the NFL, it’s surprising that the sport is shrouded in so much betting misunderstanding and misconception.

Let’s try to separate betting myth from reality:

Myth #1: Betting lines are created to beat the public.

Reality: With the exception of the Super Bowl, the public plays almost no role in the linemaking process. The betting line is created and adjusted to meet the opinion of professional gamblers because it is they, not the casual fan, who bets serious money on the game.

Myth #2: Betting lines get balanced action.

Reality: While the goal is to construct a betting line that is of equal attraction to both favorite and underdog players, it rarely works out that way. More typically, a third of the games on the NFL schedule will have an insignificant amount of betting to cause much of a concern, another third will have active but balanced betting and the remaining third will have mostly one-way action. Traditionally, how the house fares on these lopsided games, called decisions, determines whether books win or lose.

Myth #3: Bookmakers have inside information that they use to establish trap games.

Reality: Nowadays, with nearly everyone having access to the Internet, it’s not so much the information as how well that data is interpreted. Bookmakers still may occasionally receive information regarding injuries or weather changes before players, but thanks to technology, that advantage often can be measured in seconds. Many years ago, if a bookmaker found out some significant nugget of data, he might try to lure the bettor to the wrong side. Those days are gone as inside information has all but ceased to exist and there is no such thing as a trap game.

Myth #4: Bettors have the edge early in the season because oddsmakers and bookmakers need more time to assess the teams.

Reality: More hours are spent analyzing the opening week of the NFL season than any other is. A detailed, in-depth assessment of NFL teams begins more than a month before the opening kickoff. While it’s true that teams often do not tip their hand during the preseason or against weak, non-divisional foes, players are in no better position to uncover this deception than are bookmakers. Historically, the first six weeks of the season have been very kind to bookmakers. That’s probably not just luck.

Myth #5: Professional gamblers pick their spots, betting just a couple of games a weekend.

Reality: Actually, sophisticated gamblers bet a lot of games. Think of it this way: If you’re a successful gambler, why risk serious money on just a few games where a freak play or an official’s call can make you a loser? The wider the net is tossed, the less of a factor luck becomes in the outcome.

Myth #6: Wiseguys bet more on games they really like.

Reality: More than any misconception, this myth probably best illustrates the difference between how professionals and amateurs think. A professional gambler believes that if a game is worth betting, it’s worth betting significantly. Professional bettors generally wager approximately the same amount on every game they play. The concept of a best bet is a media creation that is foreign to professional sports bettors. Professional gamblers believe all their bets are good ones; that’s why they make them.

Myth #7: Bettors can win by concentrating on a specific conference, division or region.

Reality: Not likely. It’s not enough to have one specific area of expertise because the NFL schedule demands that teams play half their games outside their own division. Knowing the strength of a team is worthless if you don’t also know the strength of the opponent.

Myth #8: Statistical wagering trends are important.

Reality: Technical analysis may be popular but it’s hardly meaningful. Professional bettors put little faith in the favorite/underdog, home/away pointspread analysis that so often is cited by gridiron handicappers. It’s just another method of backfitting dismissed as irrelevant by wiseguys.

Myth #9: It’s never wise to bet on rumors

Reality: Oh, yes it is. For example, if a professional bettor hears a rumor that Peyton Manning has the flu and is too ill to play quarterback for the Colts, he’ll quickly bet on Indianapolis’ opponent. If the rumor is correct, the gambler has stolen the line on a game that’s certain to change. If the rumor is false, then he’s played Indianapolis’ opponent at a fair price. Since most lines are accurate, the bettor takes little betting risk in chasing a rumor.

How to Get Free Adwords Credit, and 9 Other Tips You Were Never Told!

Someone in a forum asked me the other day for some quick tips on Google Adwords. I have been quite successful with Adwords, and so my post got longer and longer as I thought of things, and each one seemed more important than the last-It occurred to at that point that this would make a pretty useful article, as it’s something lots of people participate in, and I don’t feel that many people get as much out of it as they should do! I think it’s a pity because in the work at home and home business arenas, some decent Adwords skills can make a huge amount of difference to your online money making! With that in mind, here are my 10 Adwords Tips You Were Never Told!

10- Trust your own conversion rates-Nobody else’s. This relates particularly well to those of you that are affiliate marketers. When you are considering what items to promote, only use other people’s conversion figures if they can physically prove them to you. I once agreed to sign on as an affiliate for a contact I had made through eBay-He seemed very professional, I liked his site and his product, and he assured me that the site converted around 5% of visitors into sales. I liked the sound of that, as I already had a few low priced keywords in mind that would bring in some good traffic. So I signed up. One month later, I had directed over a thousand clicks to his site, and there had not been a single sale. I got it verified by Clickbank too, so I know it was pretty accurate. Needless to say, our partnership ground to a halt.

9-Keep an eye on the budget-especially until the campaign takes off and becomes profitable. This seems really obvious, but those clicks really do add up fast. It’s really easy to let them get out of hand as we find ourselves pushing it up that extra couple of bucks here and there in the hope of picking up stray clicks at the end of the day. Before we know it, our 4 or 5 dollars a day is 12 or 13, and by the end of the month we owe Google a grand. That’s great if you are making good money from all those clicks, but from reading the forums I gather that this mostly happens to people that are just starting out and struggling to get into profit.

8-Don’t listen to Google. Let them show you how to use the site and get your account set up, but for advice on actual campaigns and ads, look elsewhere. The reason? Google are a business. It’s in their interest for you to pay more for your clicks, and to raise your budget accordingly. There are plenty of free resources on the net for Adwords, like this article for example, so search around for things like this and any free ebooks you can find on the subject. If you want advice, get it from people that aren’t going to be profiting directly from your mistakes.

7-Quantity and quality-Spend time researching your keywords. The more time you spend, the less money you spend, and your click through rate will likely be better too. Lots of Adwords campaigns are run by people sitting behind little desks in big offices, beavering away for a tiny salary and a company car. Campaigns are literally a job for these people, and the success or cost of the campaign is of no relevance because it all comes straight from the company funds. People like this are the reason that you can bid $25 on the words “Credit Card” on some PPC schemes and still not get top placing. People like this are also the reason people like you and I can find thousands of cheap, closer matching keywords just by putting the time in. These guys run campaigns just by throwing money at them, and we can easily outperform them just by applying ourselves a little with the keyword research.

6-Match Test-Adwords lets you run multiple ads from the same keyword group simultaneously. This is a great tool if you put it to use properly. How? Simply by making each ad slightly different, and seeing which one pulls more clicks. Once you can see which one is more successful, tinker around with the wording on the less popular ad until it improves performance and pulls more clicks than the one that was initially leading. Do this constantly and before you know it you will have an ad which literally rips clicks off the page!

5-Have patience-When you make changes give them time to manifest themselves in your results. Only when you can see what effect a change has had should you make any more. If you don’t do things gradually like this you can quite easily mess a campaign up in a fashion that will take two or three days to get back on track.

4-Cheat-I don’t know if it’s ethical to say this, but I’m going to do it anyway- When you are starting an Adwords account, go to eBay first and buy some free Adwords credit. You can buy $30 of credit to an Adwords account for pennies from certain eBay sellers. That certainly makes your first few campaigns a little less stressful. Not ethical I know, but I’m sure Google will get plenty of money from you once you get the hang of the system. Here’s hoping they don’t sue me lol.

3-Don’t forget about other PPC schemes- You won’t get the traffic you would from Google, but you will get much cheaper high quality keywords, so it balances out really. I prefer Google myself because your writing skill plays as big a part as your wallet-your ad will appear closer to the top of the screen if it is popular with the customers. That means if your ad is effective and gets more clicks than the other bidders, you will be able to pay less than the other guys that have bid on that word.

2-Make Your Ads Specific- You can weed out a lot of non-qualified browsers by stating important facts in the ad copy- people that would have cost you money from the click and not bought anyway. For example an ad which simply states “House for Sale” would get clicks from all kinds of people looking for houses, but if it were to say “Two Bedroom House for sale” you would be naturally cutting out the customers which were looking for four bedroom houses, apartments etc, as they can see straight away that you do not have what they are seeking. This reduction is good because it would help keep our costs low due to unnecessary clicks.

1- Be Relentless- It’s easy to think you have made it in Adwords, and equally easy to become really disillusioned when you do not see results straight away. Just keep the faith- It’s science, not art, and as such can be learned. Stick with it and you will soon see profit, and once you are in profit it is just a case of maintaining that balance while you raise the budgets and increase your exposures!

Is Your Dizziness Vertigo?

One of the most frequently experienced medical conditions is the very common “Dizziness”. However not many people know that there are several degrees to this which is determined by the level of dizziness experienced by the patient. There are four main categories of dizziness and the main and most regularly reported type is vertigo. Five in every ten cases of dizziness reported fall into this category of vertigo. The other three types include, near-syncope, dysequilibrium, and psychophysiologic.

The focus here is on the most common of the four; vertigo. Vertigo is caused by calcium carbonate particles called otoliths which are put out of place into the semicircular canals of the inner ear. Other hearing defects such as tinnitus are also known as a common way leading to vertigo.

The most familiar of symptoms for vertigo is headaches, backaches, dizziness, imbalance in some cases and falling in older patients and those with neurological disorders. These exact same symptoms are also very common amongst central nervous system disorders and cardiovascular diseases, therefore caution should be taken when trying to distinguish between one from the other. Usually what doctors do is refer to a patient’s medical history before coming up with a conclusion.

There are several ways by which one can treat vertigo. One of the best and most common and highly recommended is the patient performs exercises known as modified Epley procedure. Some medications are also present to help with the treatment of vertigo and the nausea which usually follows. Medications are typically various combinations of acetylcholine, dopamine, and histamine receptor antagonism, however not all medications are suitable for vertigo as there are different levels.

The problem with vertigo is that most people do not seem to be aware of it and ignore it. This is not a condition that should be ignored and if you suspect of a different than normal dizziness, then you should report this to your doctor. Just make sure you can know the difference between vertigo and non vertigo. Vertigo can be described as a feeling of revolving movement of yourself and the environment. Non vertigo includes unsteadiness, motion sickness, unevenness, suspended, or an oriented consciousness. This should be helpful to a doctor and get ready to describe how you feel without using the word dizzy.

Neuromuscular Therapy

What is Neuromuscular Therapy

Neuromuscular therapy is a system of soft tissue massage techniques that were developed in the 1930’s by Dr. Stanley Lief in England. Neuromuscular therapy aims to balance the central nervous system with the musculoskeletal system correct any disorders brought about as a result of any imbalances between the two. Neuromuscular therapy enhances the function of joints and muscles, and speeds healing by facilitating the release endorphins.

How does Neuromuscular Therapy work

Neuromuscular therapy was developed after an intensive study of the nervous system and its interaction with the musculoskeletal system. When the relationship between the two systems is not in a state of homoeostatic balance, chronic myofascial pain or dysfunction can occur. Neuromuscular therapy aims to restore homoeostasis between the two systems.

Neuromuscular therapy has a holistic approach towards healing in that emphasis is laid on stimulating the body to heal itself. Once this healing has begun, neuromuscular therapy techniques are used to stimulate soft-tissue repair in the affected areas. During a typical session of neuromuscular therapy, the therapist will first examine the patient and his or her medical history in attempt to accurately gauge all the factors that are creating and prolonging pain. Once the problem areas have been identified, alternating levels of concentrated pressure are applied on the areas of muscle spasm with the fingers, knuckles or elbow.

Neuromuscular therapy works by addressing the following six physiological factors which can intensify pain patterns. They are:

Trigger points - trigger points are highly irritable points in the nervous system.

Nerve entrapment/compression - when a nerve gets pressed constantly between the surrounding structures, it can lead to an acute kind of chronic pain.

Postural distortions - Postural distortions result in underdevelopment of the supporting muscles and thereby lead to their weakening.

Nutrition - Lack of adequate nutrition to the cells leads to an over all weakening of the entire system.

Ischemia - In a condition such as Ischemia, the cells and tissues get a reduced blood supply and as a result are under-nourished.

Stress - Stress plays havoc with the functioning of the nervous and musculoskeletal system.

Benefits of Neuromuscular Therapy

Neuromuscular therapy is used to treat conditions such as chronic pain, sciatica, rotator cuff dysfunction, carpal tunnel syndrome, temporomandibular joint dysfunction and migraines. It is also used in the treatment of some physical and sexual abuse-related traumas. Neuromuscular therapy is also the most effective type of massage therapy for lower back pain.

Neuromuscular therapy is also used to locate and release spasms and hyper contractions in the tissue. It aids the healing process for injured tissue, assists in venous and lymphatic flow, restores postural alignment, and imparts flexibility to the tissues.

Building A Four Seasons Sunroom

Building your own four seasons sunroom could save you money, but it is something that you want to carefully consider. Make sure that your expertise and experience will give you the proper tools that you need to build a sunroom that you will enjoy for many years to come.

It used to be that you would have to hire someone to build a four seasons sunroom for your home, but that is not necessarily the case now. Now, many companies are offering four seasons sunroom kits that will allow you to build your sunroom yourself from a kit. This will save you quite a bit of money over hiring a contractor and paying them to build your sunroom. This can help you to save up to half of the cost of your sunroom expense. You can also save money on materials, too, because you can choose the materials and features that you want to include. There are some things that you need to understand before you being your journey on building your own four seasons sunroom, however.

You first need to understand that the cost of your four seasons sunroom kit will depend upon your own specifications and needs. If you are going to be building on an existing patio or deck, then you will find that your cost will be less than having to choose a location and build a foundation. If you are building your four seasons sunroom from scratch, then you will first need to determine where you want to put it and then you will have to prepare the location for your construction of the sunroom. This will take more work and effort, but you can do this yourself if you do choose or you could have a contractor come in just for this part of the process so that you will have a proper foundation on which to build.

Choosing Your Sunroom Kit

When you are choosing which four seasons sunroom to order, you want to understand that these plans are not designed to be connected to your existing home’s heating and cooling system. If you want your room to be heating and cooled, then you will want to consider having a professional to construct your four seasons sunroom. You can use baseboard heaters and fans to help keep the temperature at a constant level if the weather is not full of extremes. This will all depend upon your climate and your needs.

A do-it-yourself sunroom kit may seem like a good idea, but you have to take into account your own experience and expertise. If it is not a project that you feel entirely comfortable with, then you may be better off paying someone to build your four seasons sunroom to help ensure that you will be satisfied with it and will be able to enjoy it for many years to come.

The Spine, Chiropractors, And Children

One of the most vital areas of our bodies that needs daily stretching is the back. The spine and its connection to the brain control every organ and system. It is dependant on water, as the intervetebral discs provide cushioning for our upright frames. The spine is an “S” curve, which keeps us upright and moves in unison with every twist and turn. When we turn our heads to the right or to the left, our lower back, the lumbar and sacral area, holds steadfast so we don’t spin with the movement. When we take a forward step, the spine maintains an opposing force so we don’t fall forward.

The back, leg, and neck muscles attach to our hips and shoulders, and to the spine, so they can coordinate our movements. Our nervous system is dependant on the alignment of the vertebrae in the spine, and thus the balance of energy within our bodies.

Chiropractors are trained to manipulate the vertebrae, sometimes too forcefully, but more often through soft tissue pressure. The art and science of this manipulation has been in existence for thousands of years. Chinese records from 2700 B.C. show some of the earliest manipulations, and the Greeks recorded leg manipulations to relieve lower back pain.

In 1895, in the United States, Daniel Palmer first performed chiropractic manipulations on a patient who had been deaf for seventeen years after he felt something change in his back. After manipulating the spine in the upper back, the patient reported that his hearing improved.

What we don’t realize or seem to remember, is that we can do many of the same manipulations performed by chiropractors through stretching. We did it as children. We rolled on the floor, brought our knees to our chests, curled into the fetal position, hung upside down from monkey bars, touched our toes without bending our knees, and did push-ups without raising our bellies from the floor. All of these movements have been copied by ancient practices, such as yoga, and helped our backs to remain aligned, strong, and supple.

Of course, as children, we also slept on smaller pillows, exercised more, drank more fluids, and ran on the earth, rather than on concrete. Children today are visiting the chiropractor more often, or worse, having back pain and back surgery because of sublaxations and misalignment. Poor nutrition, soda instead of water, lack of physical exercise, and poor posture are all contributing to the imbalances in our children. Since the spinal nerves connect to all other systems, children’s diseases, physical and mental, are on the increase and the drug industry is flourishing.

More than seventeen million Americans suffer from asthma, approximately 5 million of them being children. The prevalence of asthma in children has increased more than sixty percent since 1982. We blame this on second hand cigarette smoke or increased urban populations. This is partially correct. Children can’t breathe because their diaphragms don’t expand and their spines are misaligned. The misalignment interferes with the impulses to the lungs, the liver, the intestines, and the endocrine system. Everything in the air becomes an allergen and triggers an asthma attack. They can’t breathe because of psychological or spiritual triggers, sending them into panic attacks that the body is no longer able to cope with. Inhalers filled with steroids and bronchial dilators are carried to school with peanut butter sandwiches, candy and soda. Recess is a hand-held video game and after-school activities are bus riding, television, and computer chat rooms.

Adults can’t breathe because our pillows and beds are too soft, our diets are poor, our shoes (especially women’s shoes), don’t support our spines, and we sit at desks or in car seats or sideways on couches.

In the peripheral nervous system, which is made up of the nerves that run from the brain and spinal cord, there are chemical signals that pass between neurons and muscles or glands. These transmitters either activate or inhibit cell functions. ADHD, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, is treated with drugs that alter the chemistry of these transmitters, the belief being that the problem is in the brain and that the electro-chemical processes need to be changed. Nowhere in research studies is it suggested that spinal alignment, along with proper nutrition, including healthy water, could be the answer to the behaviors associated with ADHD. In other words, children could be hyperactive, because they are not active.

Animals, except those in unhealthy, domesticated environments, don’t have asthma or ADHD, although many animals are now starting to suffer from environmental and water pollution. Most animals have straighter spines that don’t need to support the weight as humans do, but they still stretch, exercise, and try to drink clean water.

The spine, spinal nerves, and nerve processes don’t need to be fused or surgically altered. They need to be open to allow the electrical impulses necessary for life.

Help Your Child Get Prepared For A Rewarding Career in the Workplace

Most parents want to see their child fare better or have greater success than they did both personally and professionally. To that end parents often try to teach their children valuable life skills and morals that will help them to get ahead of the competition. Often, though words of wisdom simply aren’t enough to help the child succeed. A good plan for the future is critical to giving a child a head start in life.

For most people the plan consists of helping the child prepare to go to college. Great pressure is put on the child to not only take college preparatory examinations, such as the SAT or ACT, but to score very high on the tests so as to gain entrance to the most prestigious universities. Sadly, many students do not perform well when taking examinations under such tremendous strain. As a result, their lackluster performance will exclude them from gaining entrance to the exclusive Ivy League universities. The option of attending a public university is still available but the poor performance on the examination could leave the student with feelings of inadequacy. Entering college with the idea of feeling like he or she is not smart enough will set up the student for failure before the post-secondary education can even begin.

Additionally, whether it is a private or public university the cost of obtaining an advanced education is prohibitive. Housing must be paid for whether on or off campus; there are constant books and tuition fees along with general living expenses. Obtaining a four year degree can leave both the parents and the student deep in debt. Besides the cost of the education there is also the factor that many students do not like attending school. Therefore, the faster an educational program can be administered the greater the student’s chance for successfully completing it.

So what’s the answer? Online career training is the way to go. This type of education is comprehensive, convenient and quick. Students can choose a subject of interest to them, enroll online and begin learning almost instantly. These are self-paced courses so the material can be covered as quickly or as slowly as the student desires. As long as internet access is available the student can learn at any time of the day at any location preferred. Upon completion of their career training the student is fully prepared to enter the workforce and start using the practical knowledge and experience gained. Since the career training courses can be paid for in advance there will be no heavy debts to pay back. If parents really want to prepare their children for a great career later they should definitely look into online career training.

Data Protection: Why and How

The advent of world-spanning computer technologies has created an environment in which all sorts of data is easily accessible by almost anyone. At the same time, more and more of our personal data is being collected and stored in computer systems. How can we be sure that it’s safe? Data protection systems and technologies exist to protect our privacy.

Data protection is geared towards protecting personal information such as family details and medical records - information we may not want to share with just anyone. Data protection schemes aim to guarantee everyone a basic minimum of privacy in line with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. People dealing with sensitive government or corporate information may also rely on data protection.

Data protection begins with the type of privacy agreements which you will often see when you’re asked to enter personal information into a website. This is the first stage of data protection - communication, ensuring that all those who are party to information exchange agree on what constitutes private data. Protection of such information can’t otherwise be assumed, as the rules on what ought to fall under data protection schemes differ in different countries and between different organisations.

Whenever sensitive information is stored on computer systems, the law demands that it must be subject to adequate data protection. Special data protection software has been developed for this purpose, designed to identify this information and keep it separate from other records. Data protection depends on good information management, limiting access and, in some cases, limiting the period for which information is stored. Data protection software may also limit the context in which sensitive information can be utilised.

The advent of secure data protection systems minimises the risk of identity fraud faced by computer users sharing personal information. Data protection is essential in ensuring that emerging technologies do not undermine the older systems on which society is based.

The Perfect Way To Watch Your Child Grow

Many people ponder the perfect way to raise a child. Here are some thoughts to consider and contemplate:

It takes a village to raise a child. - African proverb

There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One is roots; the other, wings. - Hodding Carter

Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person’s character lies in their own hands. - Anne Frank

Don’t limit a child to your own learning, for he was born in another time. - Rabbinical saying

The best way to keep children home is to make the home atmosphere pleasant — and let the air out of the tires. - Dorothy Parker

You know children are growing up when they start asking questions that have answers. - John J. Plomp

I have found the best way to give advice to your children is to find out what they want and then advise them to do it. - Harry S Truman

If you as parents cut corners, your children will too. If you lie, they will too. If you spend all your money on yourselves and tithe no portion of it for charities, colleges, churches, synagogues, and civic causes, your children won’t either. And if parents snicker at racial and gender jokes, another generation will pass on the poison adults still have not had the courage to snuff out. - Marian Wright Edelman

No matter how old a mother is, she watches her middle-aged children for signs of improvement. - Florida Scott-Maxwell

Too often we give our children answers to remember rather than problems to solve. - Roger Lewin

Becoming responsible adults is no longer a matter of whether children hang up there pajamas or put dirty towels in the hamper, but whether they care about themselves and others — and whether they see everyday chores as related to how we treat this planet. - Eda LeShan

People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don’t even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child — our own two eyes. All is a miracle. - Thich Nhat Hanh

There is no perfect way to raise your child. Just provide the support and love they need to grow and prosper.
