Top 10 Practices Of A Responsible Credit Card Holder

Credit is good, but only when it is absolutely necessary. An irresponsibly used credit card is a sure shot way of getting yourself into a debt trap that is nearly impossible to get yourself out of with out the help of a debt professional. So, for those who feel that they have been adorned with the privilege of being trusted with a credit card, this could be a wake up call to stay out of debt.

Use Your Credit Card for Emergencies

Make it a rule to use your credit card only for emergencies. You never know when you will need the credit facility your card offers you. Though the card facilitates you to buy something you would not normally be able to buy with cash, you should try to pay some amount of the bill through cash and the rest through your credit card. This will make it easier for you to repay the bill when it comes.

Don’t Use Your Entire Credit Limit

Your credit card may offer you a limit that is ten times your monthly salary. www.onlinecreditcardsinfo.com This is a temptation of getting into a debt trap where you will be repaying the interest most of the time. Try to use only 10 percent of the credit limit of the card. Do not over spend unless you are sure you can spare the cash from your next salary cheque. Don’t rush to use your full credit limit.

Repay Maximum of the Debt You Have Incurred

Make it a practice to repay the maximum of the debt billed to you. Many people try to stick around the minimum amount they have to pay, which is typically 10 percent of the bill amount. At this rate you will take about six years to repay the debt if you keep on using the card. Try to keep your credit card expense limited to 10 - 20 percent of the credit limit and repay as much as you can every month.

Keep Your Card At Home

If you find you are over spending try leaving your credit card at home when you go out. Take it with you when you feel you actually need to use it in an emergency.

Do Not Give Out Your Security Information to Anyone

Your security information is kept secret for a reason. Do not give this information to anyone. Not even to your best friend or credit card representative. This information includes date of birth, PIN and security questions.

Verify a Merchant Bill

Verify that the merchant outlet you have swiped your card at has only swiped the card once. Else you will be billed twice for the same transaction and will be a hassle to undo.

Never Give Out Your CVV Code to Anyone

Without your CVV code (the 3 digit number behind your card) you cannot make any online transactions. Your card number combined with this CVV number can be misused by any one who knows both. So when using your card at any outlet, ensure the attendant is not recording the CVV behind your card.

Never Leave Your Card Unattended

Many credit cards are stolen from vehicles. SO never leave your card anywhere out of sight including at your work place.

Check If the Card Returned To You Is Yours

Sometimes by mistake and at times deliberately, attendants return redundant cards to customers and retain the actual card for misuse. Check that the card returned to you is yours - every time.

Report Lost Cards Immediately

Do not wait to report lost or stolen credit cards. The damage might be much more than the nominal fee for blocking your card.

If you are careful with your card the above mentioned ten responsible actions regarding your credit card can save you many headaches - and a lot of money.

Gift Cards: The Advantages and Disadvantages

Everyone loves receiving and giving gift cards for special occasions. They reduce the stress of worrying if the recipient will like those jeans or shirt you bought them. They eliminate the fake smile and the I can always use a new pair of jeans routine from the person getting the gift. However, beware of the risks and hidden cost while using your gift card.

Consumer Advantages

Every year, gift cards are increasing in popularity. Generally, there are three different cards: store-specific gift cards, restaurant gift cards and general-purpose gift cards. Store-specific gift cards are meant to be used at the particular store and usually come with less hidden fees. Some stores like Old Navy and Banana Republic have became partners and allow their customers to use the gift card at either store. Restaurant gift cards are very similar to store-specific gift cards. They allow you to go and enjoy a nice dinner as a gift. Just make sure you tip the server the same percentage as you would if you were paying the total bill. General-purpose gift cards give the consumer a broader range on where to use the card. These types of cards are typically Visa, MasterCard or American Express and can be used anywhere those major credit cards are accepted. The flexibility is the main benefit of using the general-purpose card. You can fill up your gas tank, go out to eat, buy concert tickets or what ever else you want to do with it.

Consumer Disadvantages

Many general purpose cards come loaded with fees. According to The Lowdown on Gift Cards article on Bankrate.com, some gift-card programs will issue you another card if your card expires. These replacement cards will cost you from $5.95 to $10. If you order the card online or by phone you will be charged a $4.95 to $8.95 shipping and handling fee and a $3.95 to $11.95 service fee. Some gift cards will charge you a monthly maintenance fee if you still have a balance on your card after six months or a year. If you still have a balance after this period of time, a $2 to $3 monthly fee kicks in.

If your gift card is lost or stolen, good luck! Some retailers will not replace a missing gift card. Other retailers such as Macy’s and Bloomingdales are more easygoing and will issue you a new card if you can provide a receipt showing your most recent purchase. Some general-purpose cards will cancel the missing card and will re-issue a new one for a $5.95 to $10 fee.

So make sure you keep your card in a safe place, use it before it expires and buy it directly from the merchandiser and you will avoid most of these fees.

Retailers

According to the Retailers Just Love Them article on CBC News Online, the sales of gift cards have exploded from $1 billion in 1995 to an expected $70 billion in 2006 in the United States. As of 2004, 68 percent of all major retailers offer some sort of a gift card. The number is probably even greater now that it is 2006. Coffee giant, Starbucks, has estimated that 10 percent of all their sales come from gift cards.

Another reason retailers love gift cards is consumers will pay less attention to sales and they tend to spend more than what they have on the card. Retailers notice that consumers will spend the whole amount on the card and have a small balance of $2 or $3 left on it. Chances are, shoppers will never use the card again and this works to the retailer’s advantage.

One more advantage to retailers is instead of having just the holiday rush and then being prepared for holiday returns, they actually get a double rush. Since consumers give gift cards as holiday presents, the gift card holder will usually rush straight to the mall after the holidays to spend their cards. This results in a major cut-down in returned merchandise.

There are a few disadvantages for retailers. Gift cards can cost the retailer for 50 cents to $3 per card, depending on how many are ordered. There are also implementation costs of up to $50,000. Implementation costs cover all start up fees related to producing and tracking of gift cards.

Gift Card Exchanging

Recently, Internet businesses have created web sites allowing people to sell or swap unwanted gift cards. EBay got involved in this idea and now has more than 7,500 gift cards listed for sale or auction. This can be a good idea if you receive a gift card to a particular store and you do not like anything in that store. You can exchange these cards on these sites for other cards or even cash. Sites such as SwapAGift.com and CardAvenue.com are good sites that offer this service. On CardAvenue.com, you can even buy gift cards at a discounted rate. For example, you may be able to buy a $25 Office Depot card for $17; that is another way of saving.

Windows Registry Structure And Function

You can view the structure of the Windows Registry when you open it up with a Registry Editor utility like REGEDIT.EXE or REGEDT32.EXE.

If you’ve never opened the Registry before, you might be surprised and comforted by its familiar-looking layout. Its hierarchical data structure is much like the data structure you see everyday in Windows Explorer, except here the tree structure units are keys, subkeys, and values rather than directories, subdirectories, and files. But any intuitive understanding of the Registry’s content (for most people) ends right here, because the registry was designed more for the operating system and installed applications than for humans.

The Registry’s hierarchical data structure and central location allow Windows and hosted applications to quickly locate their configuration settings and default parameters, but these parameters have values in the Registry that are different from their internally-defined values used by the applications themselves. This can make altering application settings from within the Registry a grueling and tedious task, and this is why most changes to Registry data are more easily (and more safely) made by changing settings from within individual applications or system utilities.

A Closer Look at Registry Structure

The primary divisions of the Windows Registry are seen a list of 4-6 expandable folders, called root keys or subtrees, in the left pane of the Registry Editor window. These can be expanded to show the keys and subkeys, and these can be expanded in turn to show further subkeys below or their value entries listed on the right pane in Registry Editor. The Registry subtrees and a description of their contents are as follows:

• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE (HKLM): This root key (or subtree) contains configuration data specific to the local computer, including its hardware devices and operating system components. The information contained within HKLM is independent of the current user and applications or processes in use.

• HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT (HKCR): This root key contains the file-class, OLE, and COM object data. The keys, subkeys, and data within this subtree are linked to (and identical to) those contained in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\ subtree.

• HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG (HKCC): This root key is added to make current versions of Windows compatible with older Windows 95 applications. It is derived from HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\HardwareProfiles\Current and contains configuration settings for all currently active hardware.

• HKEY_CURRENT_USER (HKCU): This root key contains profile information for the user currently logged in. Each time a user logs on, HKCU is rebuilt with that user’s profile data from HKEY_USERS.

• HKEY_USERS (HKU): This root key contains the default profile and the profiles of all users who have logged onto the computer.

• HKEY_DYN_DATA (HKDD): This root key is found only on Windows 95/98/ME. It is linked to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and contains information about Plug and Play hardware components. HKDD , for use with the Plug-&-Play features of Windows, this section will change as devices are added and removed from the system.

The “HKEY_” at the beginning of each root key’s name indicates that the key is a unique identifier (or handle) that programs can use to access resources. Each of these root keys branches out, first into keys and then further into subkeys. At the end of these branches of keys and subkeys lay the Registry data, or value entries, corresponding to the data stored in the hive files. The Windows Registry can store several different value types, but the most common that you will see are binary, strings (text for humans), and DWORD (Boolean) values.

Registry Hives

Much of the information contained in the Registry is stored on the computer’s hard drive as a set of binary data files aptly named “hives”. The hives are permanent Registry components, serving as both supporting files from which Windows retrieves Registry data during system startup, and as backup files that the Registry writes to each time its supporting data is altered or changed through a process called flushing. Flushes are automatic and occur within a few seconds after changes are made to the Registry.

Parenting With Consequences Not With Punishment

Parenting in the modern age can be a particularly daunting task. We are constantly being told that smacking a child is not appropriate and that punishment in general is not effective parenting. However, punishment and consequences are not necessarily the same and is definitely a positive way of disciplining your children. A proper form of discipline teaches the child to become a responsible adult with self-discipline and consideration for other people.

Consequences, when used correctly, encourage good behaviour and help to keep the lines of communication open between parent and child. However, it is not enough to use negative consequences solely in teaching children to behave appropriately as this only teaches them what not to do rather than teaching them more appropriate behaviours. It is also necessary to use positive consequences for good behaviour as well as being open and honest with your children as to what you expect of them.

When you focus on the good behaviours and praise the children for these behaviours, the bad behaviours generally decrease and negative consequences are needed less often. Remember that consequences are only there to apply boundaries and reinforce rules when verbal reminders haven’t worked.

It is important to think carefully about the type of negative consequences used for bad behaviour as overuse or inconsistency can render them ineffective.

There are three types of consequences and these will each be explained in the following paragraphs. The three types are natural consequences, logical consequences, and loss of privileges. Each of these can be used as required, depending on the behaviours displayed by the child.

Natural consequences can teach your child lessons without your intervention. However, these can be either good or bad. An appropriate natural consequence may be where a child refuses to eat a meal. The child will then feel hungry and will learn quickly that refusing to eat is not appropriate and leads to personal discomfort.

In a bad sense however, the consequence of behaviour may lead to injury in which case it is important for the parent to intervene in order to protect the child. Also, natural consequences can actually reward bad behaviour. For instance, a bully is rewarded when the victim gives in to demands.

A logical consequence is one that is in relation to the behaviour displayed. An example of this would be where the child throws food or drink on the wall or floor in temper. When the behaviour has subsided, the child would then be expected to clean up the mess. This form of consequence gets the child to think about what they have done and the consequence of their actions. These consequences are fairer as they are relevant to the particular behaviour.

Loss of privilege may be used as a negative consequence for some behaviours such as swearing and aggressive behaviour and may range from losing the privilege of watching a television program to not being taken on an outing.

The use of time-out is appropriate when the child is being particularly difficult or where both parent and child are feeling angry and need a short break to calm down in order to address the situation more appropriately.

Although negative consequences are an important tool for parenting, it is important to be aware that encouragement for good behaviour will lead to less need for these consequences. To bring about this situation, children need to understand exactly what is expected of them. Obviously, if the child then ignores rules and subsequent reminders, then negative consequences need to be applied. However, these need to be consistent and must apply to all children in the family regardless of age and gender. Otherwise, the child will see it as favouritism toward other children and this may lead to a diminished sense of self worth.

Also, keep the consequence short in order to give the child a chance to try again. Don’t take the toy away for hours…take it away for fifteen minutes or so. The consequence does not have to be long or harsh for it to work.

It is also important to implement the consequence calmly and without getting personal. Refer to the bad behaviour not to the bad child. Remaining neutral and in control lets the child learn from the situation rather than worrying about how angry the parent is with them.

All children display negative behaviours at times. How you deal with these behaviours as a parent can make all the difference in maintaining that close bond with the children. Don’t confuse negative consequences with punishment and use the negative consequences in a constructive manner. Happy Parenting!!!

Dating Advice UK: Ready to Date & Find a Relationship?

DATING ADVICE UK: Ready to Date and Find a Relationship?

Are you ready to date and find a relationship? You may think you are but if you are still playing the looser in the dating game its time to learn how to move on. Learn what you need to handle before dating, and relationships are going to work for you.

Ready to start dating to find a relationship?

Well - are you ready to start dating? This may apply to whether you have been dating or are new to dating again after a long-term relationship. “Of course I am”, you may say, but it is surprising how many people I talk to who say they are ready but when we dig a bit deeper all kinds of dating/relationship/life issues surface. How about the lady who said she was ready but there was a certain man who had been around in the background for 11 years? Or the woman who likewise is ready but never has the time even to go to the hairdressers or check her bank statement because of the hours she works?

What gets in the way of successful dating?

So much can get in the way of being ready to date successfully and find a relationship. These are a few of the things that are common:-

• Still holding emotional baggage from previous relationships
• Being in the middle of legal chaos
• Working such long hours that you can’t find the time
• Over -commitment to family
• People in your life who hold you back
• Not knowing what you really want in a life

Wherever you may be, it is important that you give yourself a dating/relationship road check. By that I mean looking at all areas of your life so that you are clear what you need to handle before you could possibly start getting into a relationship. This may sound trite but to be successful in relationships you need to find a way to be successful in life. Relationships are not an isolated part of our lives but a reflection of how we live our lives in general. If your life is in balance it is much more possible that you will be able to find, and build upon, a successful relationship.

Building a Life That is Ready for Relationship

I just mentioned a relationship road-check. If you are going to be ready to go on the ‘road’ so to speak what needs to be in place? These are some areas that I suggest you look at:-

• Physical/emotional health
• Work/career
• Lifestyle
• Money
• Family
• Friends
• Environment - home etc.
• Relationships

What you need to do is to first honestly summarise where you are in all these areas. Secondly take a look at what you might need to do to resolve any or all of the issues that are currently outstanding. If for instance under “friendship” you realise that the people you mostly socialise with are only interested in going to bars & getting drunk and you have had enough of this. You need to find people who want to do the kinds of things that you would find interesting and satisfying. Your working life is less than satisfying, how can you turn this round? Remember small steps can make a big difference and I am not talking about doing this overnight. It is not a makeover programme but a life programme. It’s about getting more focused and into action on your own behalf.

Now Get Ready for Dating and Relationship

Now you have a plan for handling some areas of your life that need attention you can also look at where you are in terms of dating and relationship. The old saying “success breeds success” may be very annoying when your life does not resemble anything like success. Just a pause here to note that success is whatever success means for you not what others might judge to be success. I can assure you that when you begin to take the steps towards becoming more successful in one area of your life there are knock on effects that impact on other areas.

Without doubt you will begin to show up differently to those around you. Those friends who held you back or not even knowing how much you have in the bank can be a thing of the past. This is about standing up and taking responsibility for your life so that you can take responsibility for the successful relationship that you really want. Take one step at a time making sure that all the steps are going in the same direction and you will realise that you can get your life moving on the relationship road.

My Big Fat Italian Belly

Before I start on my rant, you should know the following

1) Two years ago I weighed 160 lbs.
2) Today I weight 200 lbs.
3) I think my doctor said it best when he said You’re getting fatter and fatter and fatter .

What could be the reason for such drastic weight gain? Surely it’s some sort of metabolic problem. Maybe I’m retaining water. Or is it that I got engaged, not to just any woman, mind you, but to a fantastic, amazing woman, Stacey, who is also a great cook. Oh yeah, every night, something different, something yummy, something delicious. I have no defence, I can’t say no, what am I supposed to do?

There is someting else you should know.

1) I love to eat.
2) I have no willpower.
3) Stacey is a wonderful cook. I know I already said that, but I can’t stress it enough.

My favourite food is pasta. Not just any kind of pasta, all kinds of pasta. Everything from Penna a la Vodka (which btw…she makes amazingly) right down to the old bachelor standby … Kraft Dinner, KD, Mac and Cheese, yep, I love it all. Hey Mom, I promised I would mention your spaghetti and meatballs, so here it goes. Mama’s meatballs are by far the finest food on the planet. I can eat them alone, with pasta, on a sammy, cold, hot, you name it. Now that I’ve said that, Stacey’s meatballs are like 99% as good as Mama’s. Sorry Stace, nobody wins over Mama…those are the rules.

Pasta Carbonara is another favourite of mine. Stacey doesn’t make that quite as much as I’d like, but our friend the monsterous huge big man (Eric) does. Eric is a chef at a local pub and he makes the best carbonara around, apart from that he’s one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. I’m certain that I can talk Stacey into posting the recipe for it at her gocurious recipes web site. You’ve really got to try it, it’s heavenly.

So, now you’re sympathetic to my situation. I want to be thin, but my circumstances mandate fatness. I want to say no, but the aroma is too much, the taste too tasty, the yumminess, too yummy. I just ate lunch and can’t wait for dinner. My innie has become an outie (I’m serious, that’s not a good thing). Last night I ate 3 plates of Pasta a la Vodka, the 8 year old boy across the table put it quite simply; He sure does eat a lot Mom …and she said Yes he does buddy, yes he does .

I do eat a lot, no excuses. I need to stop, I want to stop, however the food is so good and besides, it’s another 7 months until I need to wear a t-shirt again. Maybe I’ll start dieting tomorrow. See you next summer.

Johnny Chiles is a software engineer, but more importantly he loves to eat. His fiance Stacey is a fantastic cook. Together they run a series of web sites. See some recipes at:

A Little Bit About The Italian Greyhound

The Italian Greyhound is known in its native land as Picooli Levrieri Italiani. It is an ancient breed that looks like a miniature version of the Greyhound with all the talents of the bigger Greyhound.

The ancestors of the Italian Greyhound probably came from Egypt, Turkey and Greece, where they later found favor with medieval European royalty. The Italian Greyhound became popular in southern Europe, especially in Italy, during the sixteenth century and eventually won the hearts of queens and princesses throughout Europe. This tin, personable miniaturization of the Greyhound probably was bred purposely as a lady’s companion but later gained a reputation for having sufficient speed, endurance, and determination for coursing small game.

The Italian Greyhound loves to run in pursuit of small game or just for the fun of it. Exercise requirements can be met by long walks, backyard games and play.

Current function of the Italian Greyhound is mainly just as a classic companion pet, although the Italian Greyhound has sporting qualities. He is equally at home in the comfort of apartment living and a soft bed as he is seen speeding across a yard or field in pursuit of imaginary or real game.

The Italian Greyhound has virtually no fat insulation on its body which does make him a little more sensitive cold. His tiny size and scant, slick coat does not help in this area, but also adds to this dog’s sensitivity to the cold. He probably is best kept in warmer climates.

The Italian Greyhound is affectionate, cheerful and intelligent. Avoid rowdy dogs and children when housing the Italian Greyhound. Older children should be taught not to try and carry around the Italian Greyhound. He is definitely not a pocket puppy breed, or one that enjoys being carried around. He is not known as a watchdog, although the bark of this breed sounds like a much larger dog. The Italian Greyhound is often timid around strangers. When properly introduced to visitors the Italian Greyhound warms up quickly.

The Italian Greyhound has an elegant beauty that pleases the eyes of those who meet this charming little dog. He stands about 13 inches tall and weighs about 8 pounds. He is quite similar to the Greyhound only smaller. The Italian Greyhound has a single coat that is fine and lies flat. It is seen in almost every color pattern and hue much like the Greyhound.

Grooming

As you might guess grooming requirements of the Italian Greyhound are quite minimal. The coat is easily taken care of by regular, daily attention with velvet pad or a piece of silk. Equipment needed is a hound glove, velvet glove or pad. Bathe this breed in a good-quality protein shampoo. Use a purifying shampoo and mask on occasions or a condition to enhance the gleam of the coat.

The Importance of Alkaline Balance in the Body

In order to function at optimum capacity, the internal body environment must remain as close to neutral as possible. It likes to measure in on the pH scale at 7.39. When the body takes in an excessive amount of acids, as it does so often as a result of making the wrong food choices, this excess must be brought back into balance. The way the body accomplishes this is by bringing the acid and alkaline levels back into balance.

Each of the elements inside the body, the vitamins, amino acids, fatty acids, minerals, sugars and trace elements, can be categorized as either an acid or an alkaline. One interesting fact about an acid and an alkaline element is that when they are mixed together, they are able to cancel each other out. The scientific term for what is created when an alkaline and an acid element are combined is a neutral salt.

Much in the same way as the neutral color gray results when black and white are combined, and when the neutral temperature of warm results when hot water is combined with cold, a neutral salt cancels out the inherent respective properties of the combined acid and alkaline elements. With no acid or alkaline properties, neutral salts have no impact on the cellular serums or blood in which they are present.

When excess acid is present, the body must go out and find alkaline elements to begin the process of neutralizing this excess acid. Alkalines are usually present in the blood, but because the blood cannot tolerate much variation in its pH level, this is never a good source from which to borrow. A better source for alkaline elements is the internal organs and tissues. These areas can tolerate a greater degree of pH level fluctuation.

Even though the internal organs and tissue can exist in the short-term without all of the necessary alkaline, it is of critical importance that the borrowed alkaline be replaced. Normally this is not a problem. A healthy diet is generally all it takes to replenish alkaline levels. But most people don’t consume a healthy diet. It is this repeated borrowing of alkaline without replacement that becomes a serious situation.

In fact, given the way many people eat today, it is not uncommon for alkaline to be borrowed and not replenished every single day, and worse, many times in a single day. Taking more alkaline than is being replenished will sooner or later create a deficit. Alkaline has a purpose. It is crucial to the properly functioning of the internal organs and tissue. It is not present in the body so that it can be used to help neutralize excessive acid.

A shortage of alkaline inside the body occurs much more frequently than it should. The end result of this alkaline mineral loss can be any number of different illnesses and diseases and an overall feeling of poor health.

Beauty Sleep

People suffer from extremely busy days that usually lead to extremely busy nights. Instead of going to sleep, the vast majority of today’s working professionals select to do something else, like watching TV until the early morning hours instead of sleeping properly, due to stress and anxiety problems. But, one should keep in mind that sleep is a necessity, not a luxury. Having a good night’s sleep is just as crucial to maintaining wellness as is following a healthy diet and performing the proper amount of exercise.

Apart from being a healing process, sleep is also an invigorating one. Researchers examining the human brain while asleep have found that it is cycling through three stages of sleep; light, deep and REM. During these stages the human organism gets restored, it rejuvenates and it also becomes stronger. In addition, the human immune system gets recharged, as cells grow and repair themselves, and the human body conserves energy that will be needed later while a person is again awake.

Unfortunately, due to the heavy schedules and the daily problems people have to face, many do not value their bodies’ sleeping needs. Nowadays, as everything stays open later than in the past, many individuals select to sacrifice their night’s sleep for another dance at the local club, a late-night movie, a work project due or a few more hours of exercise in the gym. Instead of investing this time available to sleep and provide to their organism time to heal, people prefer to do other activities that seem more important or interesting. What they may not realize is that lack of sleep takes a toll on their mental and physical well-being. According to various studies, like the one the National Sleep Foundation performs frequently, even minimal sleep loss has a profoundly detrimental impact on mood, cognition, performance, productivity, communication skills, accident rates and general health status. Thus, it is important for people to know that for optimal functioning throughout the day, the average adult needs between seven to nine hours of sleep during the night.

But, some people lack their normal sleeping patterns not because of choice, but due to a condition. Million of people worldwide for example, suffer from insomnia today. For these people, using medication-whether based on a doctor’s prescription or not-is crucial to aid their night’s sleep. Thus, if one suspects that the problems she or he has sleeping could be linked to a health condition like insomnia, it is imperative to visit a doctor’s office, if the following tips do not bring sleep back into their lives.

- Avoid caffeinated food and beverages, like coffee, teas, chocolate, and soft drinks, for at least three hours before bedtime. Instead try a cup of warm milk.

- Exercise regularly, but do not perform any workout before bedtime for at least three hours.

- Check the mattress and be sure it supports your whole body. Flip it periodically.

- Develop a ritual before bedtime and perform it daily. Warm baths, reading, listening to soft calming music, are some of the things that can relax your mind and let it rest.

- Sleep in a quiet and comfortable room. Noise, light, temperature can reduce your sleep duration and quality.

- Go to bed and wake up the same time every day. When your sleep cycle has a regular rhythm you will feel better.

Digital Duplicators - Benefits Compared to High Volume Copier Printers

A digital duplicator is a copier / printer which uses mimeographic technology combined with modern electronics to produce copies or prints onto paper, envelopes and light card. Mimegraphic technology basically means using a stencil to produce copies or prints.

What is a Digital Duplicator NOT?

A digital duplicator is NOT the machine your primary school teacher used to run off purple copies of the school song for use in assembly, copies that had a strange, all-pervasive chemical aroma that meant you would rather the teacher had chosen somewhere else to stand and not next to you, because teacher, having used the old-fashioned mechanical duplicator of your youth, smelt and would continue to smell all day long, of chemical just like the purple copies. Today, you will NOT have to stand by such a duplicator endlessly turning a handle. Digital duplicators are electrically powered.

How does a digital duplicator work?

The copy / print stock to be printed upon is placed in the feed tray of the digital duplicator. A stencil is wrapped around a cylinder inside the digital duplicator (not a photoreceptive drum, digital duplicators do not use them) and is easily secured at both ends. An integral scanner then reads the original image. The digital duplicator then creates perforations in the thin, resin-coated master or stencil, which is otherwise impervious to liquids. As the cylinder rotates a pressure roller presses paper against this cylinder. Ink is then forced through the newly cut openings of the master onto the paper, envelope or light card as a copy or print.

Digital duplicators do not use a photoreceptive drum or a heated fuser unit. This means lower power consumption, greater service intervals and cost savings. Why use a Digital Duplicator?

Savings begin when you make more than 25 copies or prints of a single document. A digital duplicator uses a stencil. The cost of the stencil or master used in a digital duplicator is divided amongst all of the copies or prints of that particular document. After 25 copies the additional copy cost is very low.

Technological improvements have enabled digital duplicators to print at speeds of up to 135 pages per minute, with 600dpi resolution for a fraction of the cost-per-copy of a conventional photocopier. This makes digital duplicators invaluable for print-on-demand applications quite apart from the typical users of digital duplicators who have up to now been schools, colleges and churches. Digital duplicators are ideally suited for print shops or corporate graphics departments where digital duplicators can be used alongside conventional print-room photocopiers. Another point to consider is that if you use a digital duplicator for your long runs your comparatively expensive office copier will last that much longer.

General

Digital duplicators are not exactly new. Since the late 80’s digital duplicators have become virtually standard equipment for those, typically churches and schools, who require low cost copies or prints, with high volumes and a machine that is easy to use. Digital duplicators are just as easy to use as an office photocopier. Digital duplicators provide far greater flexibility to print onto a variety of stocks such as envelopes, and light card. Digital duplicators are cost-effective being less expensive to run than a conventional photocopier given the right circumstances. Digital duplicators offer additional savings because of their greater productivity and versatility. A normal, conventional office copier may have a copy speed of anything from 20 to 60 A4 copies per minute. Digital duplicators however, are capable of printing at speeds of up to 135 A4 pages per minute and an impressive 120 A3 pages per minute. This is because digital duplicators use an ink process that reprints each sheet of paper on contact. Additional cost savings are to be made by taking less than half the time to produce a print or copy job because of the increased speed of digital duplicators compared to office copiers of a similar price. The ink used in digital duplicators is quick-drying and will be touch-dry virtually on contact depending on the print resolution of between 300 dpi to 600 dpi. Gone are the days when duplicators produced smudged copies because the previous copy had not dried. The copy quality of digital duplicators compares favourably with conventional copying / printing.

Some digital duplicators provide a job separator mechanism that offsets the top sheet of each job. Most digital duplicators send output into a single receive tray and do NOT collate.

Further savings are made by using Digital Duplicators in that they can print on a wider variety of stocks including carbonless forms (NCR), envelopes of virtually any size and file folders because they have a straight paper path and do not use a fusing unit. Digital duplicators are able to print in practically any colour you like. A digital duplicator looks just like a multifunctional copier printer. Do NOT be put off by the fact that digital duplicators use ink rather than toner. After all, toner becomes ink when passing through the fuser unit of a conventional copier but the heat and pressure applied makes it readily absorbed into the throughput material. Adding ink and stencils to a digital duplicator is no more difficult than adding a new toner cartridge to a photocopier. The ink which is in boxes is located inside the digital duplicator. There is no danger of spillage. Replacing the ink in a digital duplicator is easier than installing inks into an inkjet printer. All the inks for digital duplicators come in boxes. Simply remove the cap, put on a holder and then slide them in. Colour cylinders are available for each individual ink, and will last for the life of the digital duplicator. Inks are competitively priced with one bottle lasting from between 5,000 to 30,000 copies depending on coverage. Apart from basic colours, digital duplicators can be supplied with Pantone colour inks. Ink changes are clean and easy, taking about 15 seconds to change a colour. A microprocessor-controlled, vacuum-drawn ink system ensures that digital duplicators use every last drop of ink paid for.

Digital duplicators are no noisier than conventional office photocopiers, with noise levels of between 65 - 75 decibels. Because of the greater copying and printing speeds of a digital duplicator the noise will be for shorter periods too.

The first copy from a digital duplicator will be slower than from a photocopier but at speeds of up to 135 A4 pages per minute, and, remember, given that you will be printing at least 30 copies or prints at a time, the digital duplicator should in most cases be a lot quicker.

Digital Duplicators are environmentally friendly compared to photocopiers. They do NOT emit Ozone, unlike photocopiers. Since they do not use toner and do not use cooling fans (no fuser unit remember, so not necessary), they will NOT circulate toner dust when a filter becomes clogged. They do NOT use a fuser unit so are totally dormant when not in use with no fuser unit to keep hot. On top of this all digital duplicators have an inbuilt energy save function which reduces by as much as 85% the already negligible power used when in standby mode. Digital duplicators are so environmentally friendly when it comes to power saving, they fly below the radar of Energy Star classification. The power consumption of a digital duplicator over its expected lifetime is reckoned to be up to 700% lower than a conventional photocopier producing equivalent number of copies. The inks and master stencils for digital duplicators are usually biodegradable.

Digital duplicators can be linked up to a PC, Mac or network and used as a high-speed printer. controllers enable users to send print jobs straight from a PC or Mac WITHOUT proprietary software. A driver that is provided with the controller is loaded onto the PC, Mac or Network.

Points to note.

Digital duplicators do not provide automatic Duplexing. However, copies can easily be run through the digital duplicator a second time for double-sided requirements and with the high speeds of digital duplicators, this need not necessarily be a problem.

Digital duplicators do not staple or punch.
