Socializing in Forums

The amount of random information available on the internet is absolutely staggering, some estimates suggest that there is more data available online than in all the world’s libraries and finding what you want to know can be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

One of the biggest problems with finding anything online is that you never have any way of knowing whether the information that you are reading is trustworthy, let alone accurate.  Even the Wikipedia project, which many people rely on for information is regarded as sketchy by many universities, and without a balanced view, much of what you read on corporate websites can be misleading, if not downright nonsense.

Although we like to think that we live in an age in which we have easier access to more information than ever, sometimes it seems that we live in a world in which the right information is harder to find than ever.

Sure, you can type a phrase into Google, and get a million pages of results that “match your query”, but something that no search engine can give you is a bit of friendly advice, or a personal recommendation, and that is where other people come in.

On the internet, you can instantly connect to like minded people, and in this age of global communities, the best place to meet up for a chat is in one of the many internet forums.  Surfing the internet you can find forums or message boards where people can swap information, offer advice, or just catch up with old friends and keep up to date with the news.

Many online forums are dedicated to a specific subject such as football or web design, and these are great places to find out what’s going on, but a good forum is much more than a list of questions and answers. A good forum is a place where a community of people can share their experiences, socialize, and enjoy themselves.

In internet forums just like in the physical world you find honesty, wisdom, and more of the greatest commodity you can imagine, humor.

Members of Internet forums are people who care about a subject enough to want to get together with like minded individuals in order to keep up to date with the latest news, and also to introduce new people to a subject that they are passionate about.

If you join a forum like Chit Chat and become a contributor you will soon learn all about the other members, find out about what makes them tick, what they care about, and what they don’t like, and before you know it, you’ll find that they are your new friends.

Regular contributors to forums get pleasure not just from chatting about something they love, but also from passing on information to newer members, offering free advice and assistance about everything from chat about myspace though to chat about moon landings.

Whether you are interested in sport, video games, celebrity gossip, technology or any of the million and one other subjects out there, there is a free forum or internet chat room where you can learn more and get to know other people who share your passions.  A place where you can not only discover more about a particular subject or get the answer to a tricky question, but you can also get that help or advice, or answer from a person who cares enough to share it with you.

Online communities are the lifeblood of the internet, the medium that has replaced the village pump as somewhere that people can get together and socialize.  Fun forums take the surface sheen off the often confusing online world and give it a human touch that makes it more accessible, more understandable, and more friendly to anyone.

Anyone who posts regularly at an internet forum will soon get to know all about the other members, about all the things that make them tick, and all the things that make them mad, by getting together with people in online forums, you can meet like minded people from all over the world from the comfort of your chair, and pass the time in an easy and welcoming environment that makes making friends simple.

If you aren’t a regular poster at a forum, make sure the next time you visit one that you take the time to say hello to people, thank them for their advice, thank them for their friendship, and play your part in the community, and before you know it, you will be embraced by the others online, and become an important part of their online life, and they will become a part of yours as well.

What The Church Expects From You

Rush hour commutes, soccer practice for the kids, extra work from the office and the everyday demands of live in a culture awash in activities and time demands is posing a serious dilemma for churches across the country.

People are so busy that they simply don’t have time to serve on church committees or work in church service projects.

How much do you care about the church?

About God’s people? How much of your time is spent helping… giving…praying for your church? A lot of people give money to the church but much less give themselves.

There are a lot of reasons that move people to give to the church. I know that some people give as a write-off so that they will get a break on the taxes they pay to the government. If that is your only motive for giving, it is not a proper one.

A tax write-off is just not enough. That is not going to help you any with God.

Some people give to the church to gain a reputation for giving.

The Bible truth of the matter is that God really isn’t interested in our money. Oh, don’t get me wrong. The Bible says we are supposed to give. But it’s our heart condition that God is most interested in.

In fact, even more than money, he wants us to give our time, our prayers and our service to the institution he’s created to be his hands and feet on this earth: The church.

There are Bible stories galore about the consequences of not supporting the church.

It is striking that the very first death recorded in the church occurred when a couple, Ananias and Sapphira, decided they would gain a reputation for giving that they did not really deserve.

In the fifth chapter of Acts we read that other people were giving property. This couple thought they would get in on the honor and prestige that was being heaped on those who generously gave, so they gave some of the proceeds from tome land they sold.

But they pretended that they gave all of it when they really did not.

When the Holy Spirit dealt with that hypocritical kind of giving he dealt very severely with it.

Some people give because they were afraid of dying and they want to make Brownie points with God.

There have been people who give hundreds of thousands of dollars because they felt it would help them in their standing before God at the judgment seat. But they were not giving to help the cause of God or the church. They gave because they thought they could buy God’s favor.

All these are wrong motives.

When it comes to giving, motive is more important than the amount.

God is not so interested in how much you give the church, but why you give. Do you love the church? That’s the example we have from Christ.

More than 24 million seniors collectively volunteer 6 billion hours each year in the United States. Researchers at the University of Michigan recently discovered that the survival rate of seniors who volunteered 40 or more hours a year for a single cause was 40 percent greater than that of non-volunteers.

Seniors who volunteer say it improves their health, life satisfaction, and social well-being, says Donna Thurmond, director of Senior Services for Volunteers of America.

So helping others and serving as Jesus commands us to do is not only a good thing to do, it’s good for us. In fact, we were all created with a desire to serve. That’s why it feels so good when we do so, because it’s what we were made to do.

But the real reason we serve is because that is what Jesus did. that’s the example he lefty us in the Bible.

We know it as the Golden Rule: Do unto othwers as you’d have them do to you.

New Laptop Insurance and Computer Insurance: Does this protect you?

Laptop Insurance in now recognised as necessary, because most people recognise the risk of a high value laptop that they carry around. Computer Insurance is slightly less obvious in terms of travel risk, but a computer is similarly a high value item at risk from damage and theft.

Laptop insurance has historically covered mostly business customers. Now a new laptop protection and computer protection has just been released, particularly for those who don’t want to sign up to a long term contract.

This can be found at www.2u.co.uk/laptop-insurance/ http://www.2u.co.uk/laptop-insurance/

This is specifically designed to protect people who know their laptop or computer has high value but do not want to make a long term commitment. Instead people can protect their laptop or computer on a month by month basis.

Naturally, the value of a laptop or computer declines with age, and the cost of replacement tends to decline with time. So many people do not want to sign up for a long term contract. With this in mind, the latest laptop insurance and computer insurance policies have been developed, such as the 2U Laptop Insurance and 2U Computer Insurance policies.

Duncan Elliott has successfully managed and run the Marketing Dept at www.2u.co.uk/laptop-insurance/ http://www.2u.co.uk/laptop-insurance/ and the affiliate system at www.2u.co.uk/join/ http://www.2u.co.uk/join/ for the last 6 years.

Seminar Topics - Talk Business, Not IT

Seminar topics are difficult to think of. We know that hosting seminars is an excellent way to network and use relationship marketing. The problem lies in figuring out a seminar topic that will appeal to the clients in your sweet spot.

When choosing a seminar topic, people in the IT business typically choose IT related topics. This is one of the biggest mistakes I see people make. The folks who are interested in technology related seminars, are other technology based businesses. If your seminar topic is on Voice Over IP, you’ll get a bunch of audience members in the same business as you.

You don’t want your seminar topic to attract your competition; you want it to attract potential clients. You do this by offering seminar topics that focus on business problems. Especially business problems you can solve.

An excellent way to think of seminar topics is to focus on an industry. Determine what you can you do to help the businesses in the industry, and, voila - you have a seminar topic that will attract the audience you want.

If you’re going to do something for a general audience it will be harder to hit their hot buttons, but you must still focus on seminar topics that are important to a business owner.

Seminar Topic Themes and Ideas
Designing a hipper network
How to shop for the best file server
How to improve IT security
Increase your productivity with IT
How to maximize your return on investment in IT
Protecting against computer viruses
How to make sure your firewall is adequate
How to make sure your wireless network isn’t exposed

Bottom Line on Seminar Topics

In order to come up with great seminar topics you have to think like your target audience. Ask yourself what the average small business owner is going to be most interested in. Design a seminar topic around a general business issue, or get really targeted and focus on a problem plaguing a particular industry. Either way, ditch the technology related topics and concentrate on business related seminar topics.

Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome - Symptoms And Advice

PCOS or Poly cystic ovarian syndrome is a condition that affects approximately ten percent of the female population, the symptoms vary from woman to woman but generally the main symptoms are:

- Infrequent menstrual periods or no menstrual periods or irregular bleeding
- Increased hair growth on face, chest stomach, back thumbs and toes,
- Infertility due to lack of ovulation
- Acne and oily skin
- Weight gain
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- Type 2 Diabetes
- Thinning hair
- Mood swings and irritability
- Sleep apnoea
- Patches of dark skin

There is no cure for PCOS, but each of the symptoms can be managed individually.

Birth control pills can be used to regulate the menstrual cycle in woman that do not wish to become pregnant. They will also help reduce the male hormone levels and reduce acne. All symptoms will return when the pill is stopped.

Diabetes medication can be prescribed to control the type 2 diabetes, namely Metformin. Metformin will reduce the amount of male hormones produced which will help slow down the excessive hair growth and can also help with ovulation.

Fertility treatment can be used to stimulate ovulation for woman that wish to become pregnant, although by using these medications there is a risk of multiple births. IVF is another option.

Laser hair removal and electrolysis are two non medical ways to remove unwanted excess hair. Other options are Spironolactone, which is a blood pressure medicine but it has been shown to decrease the male hormones effect on hair, or Propecia.

To relieve symptoms of PCOS it is important to keep healthy. Exercise and a healthy diet will help the body to lower glucose levels and to use insulin more efficiently. Even a small loss in body weight can help to regulate the menstrual cycle.

To help induce ovulation surgery is an option, although it is not recommended as a first course of treatment. Ovarian drilling is performed by the surgeon by making a small incision above or below the navel and inserting a small instrument that acts like a telescope into the abdomen. The doctor then punctures the ovary with a small needle carrying an electric current to destroy a small portion of the ovary. These effects may only last a few months and it is possible that the surgery can create scar tissue on the ovaries. This treatment doesn’t help with increased hair growth and loss of scalp hair but it will help to lower male hormone levels and induce ovulation.

Walk The Line (DVD) Review

Nominated for five Academy Awards, and winner of the Oscar for Best Actress (Reese Witherspoon), Walk The Line chronicles the life and times of legendary country music star Johnny Cash with an intense, and sometimes dark, intimacy. Following on the heels of the previous year’s Oscar Award-winning picture Ray, based on the life of Ray Charles, I entered the theater under the mistaken impression that Walk The Line would be a cookie-cutter attempt to capitalize on the various themes of that picture’s commercial success. But although the dramatic personal struggle with drug addiction is prevalent in both films, Walk The Line was more than able to stand on its own as a powerful and impressionable big screen biography. And just like the aforementioned film, you leave Walk The Line with a renewed interest in the music of Johnny Cash and a deep personal attachment to the lives of Cash and his likeable wife, June Carter.

Directed by James Mangold, the talent behind such notable films as Kate & Leopold (2001) and Identity (2003), Walk The Line begins in the rough and tumble world of Depression-Era Arkansas where a young Johnny Cash (Joaquin Phoenix) tends to the family cotton farm with his parents and older brother. Early on, a family tragedy strains the relationship between Cash and his father, providing a glimpse into the epic moment that would shape his life forever. Soon after, the film jumps to the early 1950s where Cash perfects his guitar talents while stationed overseas in the Air Force. His marriage to high school classmate Vivian Liberto lands the two in Memphis where Johnny supports the family as an appliance salesman while pursuing his musical interests on the side. Here, Cash founds The Tennessee Two with bassist Marshall Grant (Larry Bagby) and guitarist Luther Perkins (Dan John Miller), and the trio plays its way to a music deal with local label Sun Records.

As part of a promotional campaign, Cash is put on tour with other “rockabilly” newcomers Elvis Presley (Tyler Hilton), Jerry Lee Lewis (Waylon Payne), and Carl Perkins (Johnny Holiday). But during his tour with the quartet, the life of Johnny Cash takes numerous turns. He meets the affable June Carter (Reese Witherspoon), begins an addiction to amphetamines and alcohol, and watches his marriage to Vivian deteriorate under the strain of his constant absence. All three would come to define the next fifteen years of Cash’s life as he struggled to triumph over his personal demons. Despite his all-encompassing drug addiction, Cash nevertheless manages to crank out hits, but his personal life hits rock bottom following bouts with divorce, loneliness, depression, and his continued drug addiction. When Cash reunites with June Carter in a musical collaboration, the magical bond between the two is amplified. But Johnny’s addiction threatens to ruin everything they’ve built together.

The most impressive aspect of Walk The Line, aside from the storyline itself, is the performance of Witherspoon and her counterpart Phoenix. Amazingly, both provide their own voiceovers, and for the casual listener, very little difference can be detected between the Hollywood talents and the real life country music legends they impersonate. Much was made of the performance of Joaquin Phoenix in the days leading up to the film’s release, but I came away more impressed by Witherspoon. Apparently, so did the Academy because they awarded her their highest honor for the role. What stood out the most was the actress’s down-to-earth smile and charismatic mannerisms. She created a character with ample assertiveness, yet one that burst at the seams with an infectious optimism and love for life. As such, the audience can’t help but fall in love with June Carter. In addition, Witherspoon displays an amazing singing voice that accurately captures the distinct and unique aspects of June Carter’s talent. Overall, Walk The Line is a fine film, and a fitting remembrance to the career and life of country music’s greatest icon, Johnny Cash.

Reach out and touch someone — Coupons and promotions on your cell phone

It’s lunchtime, and you can’t decide what to have today. So you take a stroll outside, just to see what looks good at the various restaurants in the neighborhood. As you’re walking along, browsing at the different menus displayed in the front of each restaurant, you get a notification signal on your mobile phone. It’s the newly opened bistro on the corner, asking you if you want to receive a coupon and a menu. You respond with a Yes, and the files are sent straight to your phone. There’s a full menu and a coupon for a free appetizer with your entree. Lunch sounds good — let’s give it a try. You’ve just taken part in a Bluetooth Marketing campaign.

So, aside from the funny name, what exactly is Bluetooth Marketing? How does it work? And what does this mean for the average consumer?

Most mobile phone shoppers have probably heard of Bluetooth by now. It’s a standard feature on almost every new cell phone sold today, as well as many laptops and desktop computers. One of the more common uses for Bluetooth is to connect to a hands-free headset, but it can actually do a whole lot more. Bluetooth is really just a way for various devices to connect to each other and share information without the need for wires. So, with Bluetooth, your cell phone could also connect to your computer to synchronize your contacts list, transfer songs and ringtones, even upload those pictures you just took with your camera phone. What’s more, if your friend also has a Bluetooth phone, you could easily send them your pictures, songs, videos, games, or other files stored in your phone, all without having to worry about having the right cables to connect.

So, what does this have to do with marketing? Well, through some clever use of technology, companies are now using Bluetooth to send their latest promotions to the mobile phone — that ubiquitous device that almost everyone uses and carries with them at all times. How does it work?

A small, Bluetooth enabled file server, specially configured for this purpose, is mounted in a busy location. The server will continuously scan the area for Bluetooth enabled devices as they come within range (up to 100 meters). When found, it sends the user a message asking if they wish to receive the advertiser’s content. This could be a coupon, a video, Java game or any other multimedia file. If the user responds with a Yes, the file is sent automatically. If they respond with a No, the server logs this decision, and will not ask the same user again the next time they come within range. This so called blacklisting feature ensures that users are not continuously bothered with requests to download things they don’t want.

And, in contrast to SMS or text messaging, there is never a charge to send or receive files via Bluetooth. What’s more, since files don’t pass through any cellular carriers, Bluetooth Marketing works even where there is no cell signal, such as subway stations or other dead zones.

So what are the benefits and pitfalls, both for prospective businesses looking for a new and unique way to connect with their customers, and for consumers, who may view advertising on their cell phones as a sort of invasion of privacy?

For advertisers, Bluetooth Marketing allows them to send their promotions to people for very little cost. Aside from the initial purchase of the equipment, Bluetooth Marketing campaigns are essentially free to run. Because files sent by Bluetooth are free, it would not matter if a company sent 10 promotions or 10,000. More importantly, users who choose to accept the message inevitably take the time to look at it. This differentiates Bluetooth marketing from other types of advertising, which goes largely ignored by the target group. Advertisers also have the opportunity to market their products and services based on the proximity of the consumer. For example, restaurants can send coupons to people as they walk by; movie theaters can send video trailers of new releases to people standing in line, etc. What better time to send promotions to customers than when they are physically close?

Of course, from the point of view of the consumer, there may be fears that this technology may raise some privacy issues. Would people be spammed with ads they don’t want as they’re walking down the street? Will advertisers be able to record their cell phone numbers and use it for marketing purposes? And what if someone doesn’t want to receive this kind of marketing — ever?

In fact, the technology does incorporate ways to resolve these issues. Again, Bluetooth servers must always get permission first from users before any content is sent. And if the user refuses, the software remembers this, and will not ask again in the future. This ensures that only people wishing to receive content will get it — a benefit to both advertiser and consumer. Also, personally identifiable information is never collected by the system. The server only detects each phone’s MAC address, a unique hardware ID, but nothing else. It cannot collect phone numbers or any personal information from any user. People needn’t be afraid that their private information is being compromised in any way. And, of course, users can always choose to never participate in any Bluetooth campaign by simply setting their Bluetooth to invisible , so they won’t be found in the first place.

Bluetooth Marketing has been popular in Europe for several years now, and is only now beginning to catch on in the United States. Besides just coupons and promotions, stores can get creative and offer free games or songs to reward customers, companies could use this technology to distribute bulletins to employees, or professionals can use Bluetooth to send business cards to potential clients, ensuring that they always have their correct contact details handy. The possibilities are vast. So the next time you’re walking down the street and you get an unexpected message on your phone asking if you want a free cappuccino, just say Yes, and look around you. You may not have noticed the cafe on the corner, but they noticed you!

Tips For Finding Legal Aid Services

When you really need legal help and there is no other place to go, then you can try a legal aid service. As I’ve been working for legal aid services of Oregon for seven years I know best what I am talking about. And I am not joking. In our country not having money can mean not having rights. No matter what some people might say, it has always been like that. If there were no legal aid services poor people would have no where to turn to when they have some kind of legal problem. Of course, there is free of charge legal criminal representation provided but it’s not good enough. What should the poor do when for example the bank is foreclosing on their house? In that case the state does not offer free civil representation. Just imagine what a disaster it would have been if there was no legal aid service.

Once I was working as a corporate lawyer, so I’ve seen both sides. Then I worked for a big rental agency and there have been many times when I helped them with the eviction of clients so that they could develop their properties and get higher rent rates. I realize my work was not just and thus I am not proud of my actions. However, my life got the right direction when I started working for the legal aid services of Oregon. Finally, I could look in the mirror again, I was no longer ashamed of my work, on the opposite - I feel proud of myself because I am doing the right thing - helping the poor.

I wouldn’t like you to leave with the false impression that I am against legal representation for the rich. I believe that everyone deserves representation both rich and poor people. However, least to say, the current situation seems quite unfair. In case the poor don’t find a legal aid service they are left all alone. Even when they get some help from the legal aid service, the poor are stuck with a bunch of lawyers with limited resources and time. The poor might have a chance but it wouldn’t be a fair battle in court with the big legal bully guys on the other side.

What this country should do in order to solve the rank injustice problem, is to guarantee equal legal representation to every citizen. Until this dream of mine comes true, I will be here, working in legal aid services of Oregon, giving my best to help destitute people in dire need.

Worst Songs to Have Stuck in Your Head

There are good songs. There are bad songs. Then, there are ear worms, songs that get stuck in your head and stay there: no amount of amnesia will remove them. These kinds of songs aren’t necessarily bad, but they aren’t something you want sharing your brain space for 24 hours a day. Yet, there they remain, fermented in the crevices of your mind like the frosting of a sticky bun.

With some sticking more than others, the following is our list of top five worst songs to have stuck in your head, ear worms that no amount of digging with a Q-tip will remove.

I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles): By far the best well known song from The Proclaimers, I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) is a song with a lot of miles under its belt, miles spent in your memory. Released in 1988, this song is one you don’t need to know the words to, all you need to know is that you would, in fact, walk 500 miles. You should also know that the second set of Da-da-da’s sounds just like Michael J. Fox. Listen, I swear it’s him.

Cupid’s Chokehold: More commonly known as Take a Look at My Girlfriend, Cupid’s Chokehold was originally release by Gym Glass Heroes in 2004 and re-released in 2006. True to its title, this song has the ability to pierce our brains with the sharpness of Cupid’s arrow. Still, we can’t really put too much blame on the song itself, the invasive Ba da da da line is originally from the Supertramp song, Breakfast in America. Supertramp is where our fingers should really be pointed.

Copacabana: This 1978 hit introduced us to Lola (she was a showgirl), Rico (he wore a diamond), and Tony (he always tended bar). A staple of disco parties everywhere, Barry Manilow knew how to put a Copacabana in our Cabeza. This song, close to thirty years old, isn’t on too frequently, but when it is, look out: its music and passion is always the fashion. Though not a bad song in itself, having Copacabana stuck in your head is enough to make you want to patronize someplace else.

The Rhythm is Gonna Get You: Gloria Estefan, the Miami Sound Machine, and their songs just won’t go away. Released in 1987, The Rhythm is Gonna Get You was a huge hit for all involved. Reaching number 5 on the pop charts, this song - with huge dance beats and unique tempos -is, unfortunately, unforgettable. Having it inside your head for hours is enough to make anyone wish the rhythm would in fact get them, and just get it over with.

Chili’s Baby Back Ribs Song: Okay, so this isn’t really a song - and the I want my baby back baby back baby back doesn’t exactly qualify as musical genius - but this Chili’s theme song is the epitome of an ear worm, a grilled to order ear worm. Hearing this jingle is enough to ruin your day: there’s a song about ribs in your head…….. and now you’re hungry.
