Learning About The Apple Computer

Are you interested in an Apple computer? That is great news. Below we will review the Apple computer and computers in general. The personal computer has evolved so much in the last decade. Most importantly the actual speeds of these home computers are off the charts. Apple computers have some unique characteristics that differ from other personal computers.

Can you remember the days when there were no computers? Nowadays, one cannot even think without a computer, computers hold such importance in our life. The first one among all, IBM, came with the one with the rolling ball. Through computers, one can perform those things, which one even cannot dream.

The personal computer or P.C. have changed everything particularly, in the manner the documents we create today. This is a cool electronics site www.informationinquiry.com http://www.informationinquiry.com . Rest is history, we are assisted by the computers in each of our activities whether it be work, entertainment or playing games; no one can live without a computer! Due to limited knowledge, some of us still believe that only one kind of computer exists.

Comparing an Apple home computer is like comparing a personal pc as a regular automobile is to a Indy 500 racing car. The Indy car runs, excellent, like a normal automobile. The Indy car (and the Apple home computer) is slick and economical, built for maximum throughput. The regular auto will do what you ask it to do, with some encouraging words. The Apple computer will follow your commands like a King doling out rules. The regular auto needs rest and quite often stops working because it can’t keep up. The Indy car works on and on like a work horse does on a farm.

Well I do not blame you, since you have not seen or used the masters. A Master is like riding a wild horse full of energy and enthusiasm, which never gets tired. Each of us gain knowledge through experience. Therefore, it is high time for you to try the machines like Apple desktop computers or Mac. Whenever you get a chance to handle such a machine, go for it and then you will realize the difference between them. With the change in technology, one should be updated.

You might think that I am just saying this for the sake of it. But, I became a true believer after a month with my Apple desktop when I suddenly realized, it had never crashed even once. The other system crashes about twice a day. If you worked with a PC for a long time, you will need some time to adjust. Not that the Apple computer is difficult; it is just slightly different.

To open a file from the finder known on a PC as the explorer, you can’t press ‘return’. Such things will take time for you to adjust. And here is another thing that is different with an Apple desktop. No viruses. I do not even own a virus cleaning system although I keep a virus checker going in the background on my Apple desktop computer. And what do you think it finds? A Mac is immune to all known viruses.

Another thing, about an Apple computer, that is great is the automatic software updates. You just need to connect to the Net and it automatically calls home for updates. No checking the website, no figuring out what you need. The operating system and installed apple software is updated automatically.

I hope this review of Apple computers was deemed useful by you and your peers. We could easily write for days about Apple computers. They are truly a unique machine and can’t really be compared to other personal computers. Like comparing Apples to bananas! Enjoy your Apple computer!

Yellow Pages Advertising: Will Funny Make You Money?

How many times has a humorous radio or TV ad caused you to actually buy the advertised product? While some of the most successful ads have used humor - Wendy’s “Where’s the beef?” ads for example - far too many “funny” ads utterly fail to generate increased business or ROI; more than half the ads on any given Super Bowl fall into this category - anyone remember the Petco sock puppet?

For radio and TV ads, humor or surprise serve the same purpose as eye-catching graphics in a Yellow Pages ad. A humorous ad will actually get you to consciously listen to the ad - and this is a good thing in an age when more and more of us are tuning out (physically and mentally) advertising. But, when the humor is a separate element from the message of the ad, prospects remember the joke but not the business, and the ad budget is wasted on entertaining prospects rather than persuading them to buy.

So does this mean Yellow Page advertisers shouldn’t worry about eye-catching graphics? Of course not! Yellow Pages advertising is one step up over other mediums because rather than tuning the ads out as background noise, prospects are actually looking for them! But you still have to break through the clutter. Your Yellow Page ad has to have the design chops to visually overpower the other ads, relegating the competition into the background as the prospect focuses on what YOU have to say.

The point is that eye-popping graphics are discarded by the reader when they are gratuitous. The message carried by the graphic has to be tied into the emotional needs of the customer and has to reinforce and lead into the persuasive message of the copy. Otherwise, your Yellow Page advertising budget will be wasted as people smile at your graphic and then move on to call someone else.

A genuine Yellow Page ad design expert doesn’t think of your ad in terms of separate elements. They don’t use separate or stand-alone strategies to design your graphic, then use another strategy for the headline, and another for the copy, etc. The successful Yellow Page ad design process simply isn’t modular; all of the elements have to work together to move your reader to call YOU first!

So forget about “catching their eye” with graphics and THEN persuading prospects with the copy. The graphic elements of your ad have to catch their eye WHILE SIMULATNEOUSLY establishing an emotional connection with and persuading your customer.

Also, notice I said “graphic elements” and not graphics. The font size and style, spacing, proper use of negative or white space, and eye-flow contribute as much to the visual appeal of your Yellow Page ad as the pictures. Make sure your Yellow Page ad design “professional” has the design background to successfully orchestrate these elements for maximum impact!

Are you contemplating humor in your next Yellow Page ad design? Remember, there’s nothing funny about wasting ad dollars on a loser Yellow Page ad that will run for an entire year. A holistic approach that considers both the emotional needs of your target audience AND the interdependence of its’ parts is crucial to your success.

“Tips for an Amazon.com Bestseller Campaign”

Selling your book through Amazon.com is a great way to not only earn money, but to increase your visibility and credibility in the business world. For example, if your book achieves Amazon.com bestseller status then your sales could increase exponentially. Otherwise, your book listing may fall into the deep sea of books on Amazon. Therefore, earning best seller status is the top goal of many Internet businesses.

Following is a list of common questions regarding an Amazon.com bestseller campaign:

Question #1: Here’s my situation. I am working on an Amazon.com bestseller campaign. I have sent press releases. So far I have a list of 100,000 people that are being sent emails regarding the book and its release. I’ve heard that you are supposed to have 500,000 people on your email list in order to crack the top ten in Amazon. Is this true?

Answer: Not necessarily. The list of 500,000 names makes it more likely for you to hit the bestseller list, but if you have a quality list than you can still crack the top ten on Amazon. You may have a smaller list, but if you have a high percentage of buyers than your list could be more powerful than a larger list with a lower percentage of buyers.

Question #2: I’ve heard about using joint ventures to spread the word about my book’s release on Amazon.com. However, I’m having trouble creating joint ventures because it is difficult to get people to commit to a venture with me since they don’t know me personally. Are there other options besides joint ventures?

Answer #2: Let’s first check out how you are going about obtaining joint ventures. The biggest problem with finding joint ventures for an Amazon.com bestseller campaign is that you don’t offer a value per value exchange. You can’t just ask people to promote you and your book to their list in exchange for nothing that benefits them.

You have to think how you can make the exchange valuable for the other person. Give them incentives that will make them more likely to send an email about your book to their list. Make sure to put a dollar amount value on the items that you offer the joint venture partner for free. Offer them bonuses that they can also offer in the email they send out to their list.

Also make sure to figure out how your vision helps push them towards their own vision. For example, some people want leads. Some people just want help. Find out what they want and need and offer it to them so they view promoting your book as a valuable exchange.

Tip: Find a book similar to yours on Amazon that has accomplished a best seller campaign. Find out what they did in their campaign. Find out what bonuses they offered. Find out who helped them and contact these people.

The Family Love Teacher is disturbed by today’s new trend of older couples falling out of love after their kids have grown and left home. He wants you to ask yourself these questions:

How much is a successful and lasting love relationship worth to you? How much do you hate being in a divorce court with your husband or wife? How much do you hate going to jail for domestic violence? How much do you hate the frustration of being in love with a person who does not reciprocate your love?

The Family Love Teacher is advocating for more education, because the more marital knowledge you possess, the smarter the decisions you will make. He is urging every man and woman of distinction to learn how to build a joyful family. Here are some of the mind-opening questions he pauses to his seminar attendees to enable them get an insider’s grasp of the causes of marital failure. He stirs your imagination before sharing with you the essential decision-making knowledge you need to protect your love relationship for life. See if you can answer the following questions:

1. If the couple truly loved each other so much before they wedded, why would they be cheating on each other, separating or divorcing?

2. If the couple truly loved each other, why would they opt for the toughest decision that hurts the innocent children they brought into this world? Why would they care less today than before they married? Why would they voluntarily place the pain of their mistakes on their innocent children, and make them miss out on the full-time parental love of both parents?

3. If they truly loved each other so much, why would they be unkind, unforgiving, and insensitive to each other, calling each other witch, bitch, or monster, to the extent of calling for a restraining order? If it was true love, why wouldn’t they forgive each other and agree to develop a friendly solution to whatever conflict they had?

4. Was it lust, an obsession, or fashion? If not, then what was it? Is true love temporary or it really lasts forever? What are the facts? Why are more than 50% of the marriages not lasting a lifetime? Did one partner change after their wedding, or s/he had pretended to be who s/he was not before the wedding? Is there a way one can influence a partner to change for better and not for worse? How would this be done?

5. How does one suddenly fall out of love? Is love comparable to a vehicle for easy illustration - that it runs out of gas and requires continuous refueling and service maintenance to keep it running smoothly? If so, what type of gas does it run on? What are the critical secrets of marital success to keep your love growing stronger? How does one develop these life-shaping habits?

I Love Italian Wine and Food - The Fruili-Venezia Giuli Region

If you are looking for fine Italian wine and food, consider the Friuli-Venezia Giuli region of northern Italy. You may find a bargain, and I hope that you’ll have fun on this fact-filled wine education tour.

Friuli-Venezia Giuli is a mountainous area tucked away in the northeast corner Italy, bordering on Austria and Slovenia. Experts believe that Friuli-Venezia Giuli was first inhabited twenty thousand years ago. Like most regions of Italy, it has belonged to many nations over the years. Unlike most regions of Italy, it remains multicultural, an exceptional mixture of Italian, Austrian, and Slavic influences. To make this article easier to read, we will replace the region’s full name by its first part, Friuli. The total population is less than 1.2 million.

While Friuli is home to a wide variety of agricultural products, most farmers don’t get rich. The farms tend to be small and much of the land is unfertile, suitable only for grazing and grapes. Unfortunately the Adriatic sea is in poor condition and fishing is on the decline. However, a wide variety of seafood is available. Friuli’s best-known food is San Daniele prosciutto, an uncooked ham aged in sea salt for over a year. Gourmets debate whether this ham or its cousin prosciutto di Parma from the Emilia-Romagna region in northwestern Italy is the best ham in the world.

Friuli’s administrative center is Trieste, which only became part of Italy in 1954. This city was once the principle port of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Like Vienna, Austria, Trieste is filled with cafés. It is also home to the famous International Center for Theoretical Physics.

Friuli devotes about one hundred fifty thousand acres to grapevines, it ranks 14th among the 20 Italian regions. Its total annual wine production is about 27 million gallons, giving it a 13th place. Approximately 48% of its wine production is red or rosé (only a little rosé), leaving 52% for white. The region produces 9 DOC wines. DOC stands for Denominazione di Origine Controllata, which may be translated as Denomination of Controlled Origin, presumably a high-quality wine and 1 DOCG white dessert wine, Ramandolo. The G in DOCG stands for Garantita, but there is in fact no guarantee that such wines are truly superior. Over 60% of Friuli wine carries the DOC or DOCG designation. Friuli is home to almost four dozen major and secondary grape varieties, about half white and half red.

Widely grown international white grape varieties include Pinot Grigio, often called Pinot Gris outside of Italy, Pinot Bianco, often called Pinot Blanc outside of Italy, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc. The best known strictly Italian white varieties are Tocai Friulano and Verduzzo Fruilano, exemplified in the DOCG wine, Ramandolo.

Widely grown international red grape varieties include Merlot, grown in Fruili for well over one hundred years, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The best-known strictly Italian red variety is Refosco. Fruili’s candidate for grape variety with the most unusual name is Tazzelenghe, which means tongue cutter in the local dialect. While I have never tasted any wines based on this grape, I can guess that they won’t be delicate.

Before we reviewing the Friuli wine and cheese that we were lucky enough to purchase at a local wine store and a local Italian food store, here are a few suggestions of what to eat with indigenous wines when touring this beautiful region.

Start with Cjalzons con Ripieno di Cioccolata e Spinaci, Chocolate and Spinach Filled Pasta with Smoked Ricotta.

Then try Capesante alla Triestina, Broiled Scallops and Oysters with Watercress. And for dessert, indulge yourself with Strucolo di Ricotta, Ricotta Strudel. If you are like me, you think of Austria or Hungary, when you hear the word Strudel.

OUR WINE REVIEW POLICY While we have communicated with well over a thousand Italian wine producers and merchants to help prepare these articles, our policy is clear. All wines that we taste and review are purchased at the full retail price.

Wine Reviewed

Pighin Pinot Grigio 2005 Grave del Fruili 12.5% alcohol about $13.50

I’ll start by quoting the marketing materials. “Toast, white flowers and mineral on the involved nose, this light-bodied white is all about zing, verve, and refreshing citrus flavors. Some notes of pit fruit, but mainly built to match up to seafood. Try with friends and grilled scampi drizzled with lemon juice.”

I first tasted this wine with sesame seed covered filo dough stuffed with hamburger meat and accompanied by zucchini in a tomato sauce. It was pleasantly acidic and fruity providing lemon and other citrus flavors. I liked it with a chocolate cake labeled strudel which intensified the wine’s acidity. I don’t think that any Friuli residents would have called that cake strudel, but this review is about the wine, and not the cake.

My next food pairing was with whole-wheat pasta in a spicy meat sauce. The wine stepped up to the plate and handled the spice very well. It was nice and round. I finished this meal with out of season strawberries, in whose presence the wine became almost sweet.

With filet of sole poached in onions, a side of brown rice, and okra in a tomato sauce, the wine became more acidic and rounder. It was quite refreshing. It was a sweet, acidic companion to fresh pomegranates. It took on a nice acidity with pecan and caramel chocolate candy.

Montasio is a cooked, full-fat, semi-hard cheese made from cow’s milk and aged for several months. It has a pungent smell and a strong, pasty taste. The Pinot Grigio was not outmatched by this powerful cheese. Strictly speaking, Asiago cheese does not come from the Friuli region, but its neighbors Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto. Once again, the wine changed its character to match this softer cheese.

This wasn’t a great wine, but it did go well with everything. I would most likely buy it again.

Levi Reiss has authored or co-authored ten books on computers and the Internet, but to be honest, he would rather just drink fine Italian or other wine, accompanied by the right foods. He teaches classes in computers at an Ontario French-language community college. His wine website is www.theworldwidewine.com http://www.theworldwidewine.com .

Attention Shoppers - Retail Stores Are Destroying Our Credit Scores

Imagine this…

You walk into a department store to purchase something you need. Then the friendly young person at the cash register says, You can save 20% off your purchases today if you apply for our store credit card right now.

Save 20%? Wow! Sounds like a great deal, doesn’t it? But let’s take a look at what really happens to your credit when you give in to that temptation.

How Department Store Credit Cards Work

First of all, you have to remember that the young clerk, who barely looks old enough to drive, doesn’t understand how the system works. They just focus on how many applications they can sell during the holiday season. Clerks who sign up the most people get some kind of bonus in return-usually cash or company merchandise.

Let’s assume you agree and fill out a credit application. The clerk presses a few buttons and processes it on the spot. (Guess how? Yup, by quickly making a decision based on how high one of your FICO credit scores is.) This is called instant credit. You see, retailers know that the best time to sell you something is while you’re still in the store.

Whether or not you get approved, you have a credit inquiry from that store on your credit reports.

Your FICO Scores Can Plummet Up to 12 Points Per Inquiry

According to our research, each credit inquiry can lower a person’s credit scores up to 12 points. And here’s the kicker…EACH department store credit inquiry will affect your scores for 12 months. That’s 1 year! 365 days! 8,760 hours!

Let me repeat that: EACH inquiry from any retail store will count against your credit scores. Sometimes you end up going to 8, 10, or 20 different stores. If you’re applying for cards at all those stores, your scores are going to take a major dive.

Meanwhile, Back at the Department Store…

The young person behind the register suddenly announces (loudly, of course) that you were denied credit, gives you a receipt, and says, Thank you, please shop with us again. You walk out of the store rejected. Not to mention embarrassed-and you didn’t even save any money because you have to actually qualify for the card to save the 20%. Punks.

What went wrong?

You weren’t prepared.

I remember the fear that ran through me every time I filled out a department store credit application after my bankruptcy. I would actually wait until there was no one in line at the cashier! That way, if I got declined at least I wouldn’t get too embarrassed.

In the Snyder household, we don’t apply for this type of credit anymore. It was one of the reasons we filed bankruptcy 12 years ago. So we stay clear of department store credit. It’s expensive credit (the interest rates usually hover around 23%) and it’s too tempting and too easy to go into debt.

And the worst thing about department store credit is that the negative impact of the inquiries will last 12 months…so any store credit card applications you fill out will haunt you for the next year. It can be a vicious cycle if you don’t break it. You can do it…break the cycle.

There’s very little a retail store credit card can do for you that your normal VISA or MasterCard can’t. I should know…before I filed bankruptcy I was the king of buying on store credit! The more store credit I got, the more successful I felt. I don’t do that anymore. Now I know better. And so should you.

Who you are isn’t determined by how many credit cards you get approved for. Do you even need their credit card? Is saving 20% of $50 really worth the trouble? (Seriously, do the math…10 bucks is all you would save.) Remember, whether you get approved or declined, your credit scores are going to take a hit. And when you’re recovering from bankruptcy with credit scores that are already low, every point counts.

The Best Way to Apply for a Department Store Credit Card

But let’s assume you’re smarter and more responsible than I was when I was younger, and that you’ve never had a problem with spending more than you can afford (after all, we don’t all go bankrupt because of overspending). Here’s how to properly master this process.

1. Find out what their credit guidelines are. Specifically, you want to know what credit reporting agency they use to make a lending decision and what minimum FICO credit score is required to get approved. Don’t bother asking the young people at the checkout register-they won’t have a clue. Your best bet is to call someone in the store’s credit department.

2. Know all three of your FICO credit scores. You can purchase them through www.myfico.com/12. This way, if the credit card issuer tells you their credit guidelines, you’ll know whether you’ll qualify or not.

3. If the credit card issuer cannot give you straight answers to the questions you’re asking, then talk to another person within the department that will. If no one will tell you what you need, you’re either not asking the right people, or you should take it as a sign you shouldn’t be applying for that credit card.

By knowing the retailer’s credit guidelines and your FICO credit scores you can apply for credit with confidence.

Last Words…

Of course, it’s easy to get caught up in the joy of bringing a smile to someone’s face when you think you’re being a good parent or spouse by spending more than you can afford on credit. You must remember, the joy your children will get from a bunch of small gifts now will be multiplied by a hundred when you’re financially stable enough to pay for their college education…or buy them their first car…or help them with a down payment on a new home. Plus, your financial responsibility will set a great example for your children.

The bottom line is: you need to think twice about the negative effect credit inquiries have on your ability to finance more important things such as mortgages, home equity loans, new cars…not to mention your insurance premiums could skyrocket!

Themed Travel Destinations With Family

If you are looking for fun theme family holidays this summer, you have many to choose from. When considering which holiday to take, you should find out what your family is interested in seeing. Do they want to go on an educational trip, an amusement park trip, a sightseeing trip in a scenic location, or a winter holiday? Once you discuss options with your family, you should begin planning your vacation. Most people plan family vacations a few months in advance because of hotel rooms, boat rentals, campgrounds, and other provisions may not be available when you want to go on vacation.

One of the most popular destination spots is Washington DC. This is a wonderfully historic city with many monuments, restaurants, museums, and other places for you to explore with your family. Take a tour on a bus or walk the different neighborhoods. Washington DC is a great place at any time of year. In addition to great historic buildings, there are plenty of art galleries, theaters, and coffee houses for your family to relax in. Children of all ages will enjoy seeing this city, especially at nighttime when the monuments are lit up. There are many tourists that enjoy taking pictures and buying trinkets from street vendors.

Another fun holiday you can take with your family includes a trip to Hershey Park, which is located in Hershey, Pennsylvania. You can visit Hershey on your way to Washington DC because it is only an hour or so away. Enjoy some good rides, chocolate treats, and buy some fun stuff.

Disneyworld is another good destination for families. This themed family holiday includes day passes or three-day passes that can be used during your stay. If you plan on visiting Florida, you should consider buying a pass that includes time in Disneyworld, universal studios, and Epcot Center. This will save you money and it can save you time. Instead of having to stand in line, you will be able to go into these parks and have a great time.

There are many wonderful hotels and resorts to stay in when you decide to vacation in or near Disneyworld. You can rent a car from the airport, enjoy free shuttle service if traveling to and from the airport, and be able to see the sights of Florida and visit some interesting amusement parks.

If you want to travel with your family during the winter, you should choose somewhere warm. Southern California has many small and large cities for you to visit. San Diego, Los Angeles, and other areas are home to amusement parks, state parks, and the ocean. Your family will have a good time being in the warm weather while on vacation.

A themed vacation is one that your family will remember for a long time. Theme vacations are easy to research and should be arranged in advance so you will not have to worry about finding hotel rooms, rental cars, or other accommodations.

Educational Toys for Babies

Educational toys are fun for babies and provide another tool to stimulate learning and brain development in your infant. There are many ways to teach a child and tens of thousands of educational toys on the market to help parents in the endeavor. The challenge for parents, child care providers and educators is to choose from the vast array of educational toys available in a way that creates a balance of learning techniques, is age appropriate, and most of all fun. This article will provide basic facts about; how babies learn, types of educational toys available and examples of each.

How Babies Learn

It is quite surprising the rate at which babies learn and develop. Learning begins in the womb and continues throughout childhood. In early life how a child learns centers largely around the relationship with the parents. At least until the child starts preschool, the job of stimulating and satisfying baby’s desire to learn falls primarily to the parents.

While babies respond to their parent’s voice there are many other sounds they find interesting. When parents are choosing educational toys for babies they should look for toys that have sound, colors that are bright and contrasted like red, black and white, and have interesting textures that babies like to touch.

Sounds

Babies’ respond to sound and some of the best educational toys include rattles and musical toys. Soothing music such as lullabies is usually best. Auditory and musical toys are known to stimulate logical thinking and imagery in babies and in adults for that matter.

One good educational auditory toy is the Electronic Metal Keys. These keys are good for a child 6 months and up. The Electronic Metal Keys are an imitation of the parent’s car keys. However, the Electronic Metal Key toy is safe for the child to chew on and has a push button that emits sounds like a car horn, doorbell, ignition, and remote control door.

Sight

Bright colors in educational toys stimulate baby’s vision. Look for toys with strong color contrast and patterns. A good one to look for is a colorful crib mobile that emits music, has different textures, curves and symmetry.

One such educational toy is the Bath Time Fishing toy. This item is appropriate for babies 12 months and up. It’s a great prop to use during a baby bath. Making the bath as fun as possible can also help overcome any resistance or fear your child may have during the bathing process. The toy is bright in color, has a rod and reel, and the strong magnets attached to its tails allow for easy catching. Bath Time Fishing is priced at around $16.00 dollars.

Fine motor play

Fine motor play educational toys are used to stimulate coordination in baby’s finger and eye movements. One such toy aimed at developing the hand-eye coordination is “Counting Pals”, which is aimed at babies 6 months and up. Counting Pals are 10 soft and squishy colored blocks. They can be stacked, tossed, chewed by the baby. Counting pals also provides animal illustrations that will enchant the baby. Counting Pals educational toy is priced at around $12.00.

Cognitive Skills

There are some educational toys that promote cognitive skills in babies, which is to say they stimulate the child’s memory, how they picture things and their problem solving skills. Educational toys like building blocks, activity boxes or puzzles are a good purchase for your child. The puzzles can deal with numbers, letters or pictures; it does not matter, but they should be fairly easy for a baby to grasp and manipulate.

Before You Apply, Compare

If you are considering applying for a credit card, make sure before you apply you compare the interest rates available. There are so many credit card companies willing to take your business make sure you shop yourself around first.

The interest rates that you qualify for will depend on your credit worthiness. This simply means what type of risk are you to the credit card company. Do you pay your bills on time; are you making enough money to cover your outstanding credit responsibilities?

If you are regularly late or considered what the industry refers to as a slow pay , your interest rates are going to be higher. That means, if they have a low teaser interest rate, you are not going to qualify for it. They mean it when they say, not all applicants will qualify for the lowest rates. On the other hand, if your credit reports shows that you are a good risk, paying on time consistently and are not over extended, you will definitely qualify for the introductory rates.

If you have a good credit rating, you have the upper hand on negotiating with credit card companies for the best available interest rates. If your credit is less than stellar, you may not get the lowest rate available but it is just as important to comparison shop before you accept an offer.

Remember when you are comparing interest rates do not let every company you are speaking with run a credit report. Make sure you specifically ask them if they are running a full credit report. If they say yes, tell them no. Having a bunch of credit request showing on your report makes your credit score go down dramatically.

Once you have compared interest and you have narrowed it down to one or two cards, make sure you understand the terms of the offered interest rates. For instance, you might secure an interest rate at 8.99%, what happens if you are late? Usually the interest rate goes up dramatically.

Being late once, and they do not care if it is by two hours, may raise your rate to about 15%. Still not a horrible rate but it sure is not as good as your initial rate. Ask them what happens if you are late more than once. Most companies have policy in effect that if you are late more that once in a twelve-month period, they will raise your rate so high you won’t believe it. Many get up there into the 30% bracket.

So, when you are comparing interest rates for credit cards, use your credit score to secure the very best rate you can possible get. Once you have it secured, make sure you always pay on time. Make sure you read and understand all terms and conditions of the card. By getting the best rate possible, you can literately save yourself hundreds of dollars a year.

Computers Loom Large in Preschoolers’ Lives.

This headline caught my attention as I leafed through my Sunday paper this past weekend. While my own computer and I are rather close, spending a pretty hefty portion of our days together, I hadn’t really considered what an impact this staple of everyday life has had on our youngest community members. Apparently there is a considerable impact, a lasting influence we may want to redirect while we still have time.

This particular piece of technology is here to stay for a lot of good reasons. Teaching our children to respect computers as a tool, and educating them on how to work with them in productive ways, is important. But Lowell Manke, an associate professor of education at Whitenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, suggests that, Kids ought to be digging in the ground and playing with dogs and listening to their grandparents tell stories. Computers take that time away from them. Another educator, Lucy Payne, an associate professor of teacher education at the University of St. Thomas, said, I’m afraid if we keep pushing this technology, we’re going to have a whole bunch of people who can do data entry, but nobody who can solve problems. Having managed a retail furniture store for a number of years, and struggled to train and coach many young employees in customer service problem solving, I hear these words of caution loud and clear.

My question is where does this leave us as people of faith? Do we still want to share our faith with our children? Or have we chosen a new god in technology, one to whom we are giving our children in the name of living in the modern world?

From Genesis forward the Bible communicates how God created us for community. The Lord’s Prayer begins with the familiar words, Our Father who art in heaven. Paul’s letters to the early churches talk about early Christians as being brothers and sisters in Christ. Most specifically, we speak of the relationship we each have with God through Jesus Christ as the Son of God.

We also know, sooner than not, that relationships aren’t always easy. Human beings aren’t mass produced off of an assembly line. And while we share many similarities and we are all made up of the same basic components, we are individuals, we are unique and getting along with each other requires our understanding and acceptance of one another’s humanity. If our young people’s life experience is dominated by a point/click, cut/paste mentality, it is no wonder they have trouble making sense of the larger, richer worlds of feelings, communication and respect for personality quirks and differences.

It follows that understanding and living a life based in faith is likely an even more foreign concept. How do we then pass on our faith to this generation?

Basically, we have some things to think about. We carry a legacy of faith, passed down to us in trust, a heritage we want to give over to this next generation. How we do that needs to convey the truth of God’s love and the integrity of the community that embodies that truth. Technology, computers especially, inform our society in ways of which we are not yet fully aware. But what we do know is that digging in the dirt teaches a child about God’s planet, and keeps us grounded as well. Petting and playing with a dog evokes the blessings of joy and compassion in loving all of God’s creatures. Old stories, from those who have them to tell, show us the way on our own journeys to come. We pass on our faith as we live it the way God intended, through relationships with other people. If we lose sight of that, or feel we don’t have time, or think our children can get the same message reading Bible stories online, we are wrong. Reading the story of God’s love and faithfulness off a computer screen is not the same as living that story among God’s people now.

Computers are machines designed to make our lives easier, tools that can be applied in numerous creative and practical ways. People are designed to interact with each other, to nurture each other and simply, to love each other. We are the conduits of community and the most important way to pass on this legacy of faith.
