Attention Shoppers - Retail Stores Are Destroying Our Credit Scores

Imagine this…

You walk into a department store to purchase something you need. Then the friendly young person at the cash register says, You can save 20% off your purchases today if you apply for our store credit card right now.

Save 20%? Wow! Sounds like a great deal, doesn’t it? But let’s take a look at what really happens to your credit when you give in to that temptation.

How Department Store Credit Cards Work

First of all, you have to remember that the young clerk, who barely looks old enough to drive, doesn’t understand how the system works. They just focus on how many applications they can sell during the holiday season. Clerks who sign up the most people get some kind of bonus in return-usually cash or company merchandise.

Let’s assume you agree and fill out a credit application. The clerk presses a few buttons and processes it on the spot. (Guess how? Yup, by quickly making a decision based on how high one of your FICO credit scores is.) This is called instant credit. You see, retailers know that the best time to sell you something is while you’re still in the store.

Whether or not you get approved, you have a credit inquiry from that store on your credit reports.

Your FICO Scores Can Plummet Up to 12 Points Per Inquiry

According to our research, each credit inquiry can lower a person’s credit scores up to 12 points. And here’s the kicker…EACH department store credit inquiry will affect your scores for 12 months. That’s 1 year! 365 days! 8,760 hours!

Let me repeat that: EACH inquiry from any retail store will count against your credit scores. Sometimes you end up going to 8, 10, or 20 different stores. If you’re applying for cards at all those stores, your scores are going to take a major dive.

Meanwhile, Back at the Department Store…

The young person behind the register suddenly announces (loudly, of course) that you were denied credit, gives you a receipt, and says, Thank you, please shop with us again. You walk out of the store rejected. Not to mention embarrassed-and you didn’t even save any money because you have to actually qualify for the card to save the 20%. Punks.

What went wrong?

You weren’t prepared.

I remember the fear that ran through me every time I filled out a department store credit application after my bankruptcy. I would actually wait until there was no one in line at the cashier! That way, if I got declined at least I wouldn’t get too embarrassed.

In the Snyder household, we don’t apply for this type of credit anymore. It was one of the reasons we filed bankruptcy 12 years ago. So we stay clear of department store credit. It’s expensive credit (the interest rates usually hover around 23%) and it’s too tempting and too easy to go into debt.

And the worst thing about department store credit is that the negative impact of the inquiries will last 12 months…so any store credit card applications you fill out will haunt you for the next year. It can be a vicious cycle if you don’t break it. You can do it…break the cycle.

There’s very little a retail store credit card can do for you that your normal VISA or MasterCard can’t. I should know…before I filed bankruptcy I was the king of buying on store credit! The more store credit I got, the more successful I felt. I don’t do that anymore. Now I know better. And so should you.

Who you are isn’t determined by how many credit cards you get approved for. Do you even need their credit card? Is saving 20% of $50 really worth the trouble? (Seriously, do the math…10 bucks is all you would save.) Remember, whether you get approved or declined, your credit scores are going to take a hit. And when you’re recovering from bankruptcy with credit scores that are already low, every point counts.

The Best Way to Apply for a Department Store Credit Card

But let’s assume you’re smarter and more responsible than I was when I was younger, and that you’ve never had a problem with spending more than you can afford (after all, we don’t all go bankrupt because of overspending). Here’s how to properly master this process.

1. Find out what their credit guidelines are. Specifically, you want to know what credit reporting agency they use to make a lending decision and what minimum FICO credit score is required to get approved. Don’t bother asking the young people at the checkout register-they won’t have a clue. Your best bet is to call someone in the store’s credit department.

2. Know all three of your FICO credit scores. You can purchase them through www.myfico.com/12. This way, if the credit card issuer tells you their credit guidelines, you’ll know whether you’ll qualify or not.

3. If the credit card issuer cannot give you straight answers to the questions you’re asking, then talk to another person within the department that will. If no one will tell you what you need, you’re either not asking the right people, or you should take it as a sign you shouldn’t be applying for that credit card.

By knowing the retailer’s credit guidelines and your FICO credit scores you can apply for credit with confidence.

Last Words…

Of course, it’s easy to get caught up in the joy of bringing a smile to someone’s face when you think you’re being a good parent or spouse by spending more than you can afford on credit. You must remember, the joy your children will get from a bunch of small gifts now will be multiplied by a hundred when you’re financially stable enough to pay for their college education…or buy them their first car…or help them with a down payment on a new home. Plus, your financial responsibility will set a great example for your children.

The bottom line is: you need to think twice about the negative effect credit inquiries have on your ability to finance more important things such as mortgages, home equity loans, new cars…not to mention your insurance premiums could skyrocket!

Horse Marketing 101

If you rely on your horses for income, you are going to have to have good marketing skills just like any other business. That’s right, horses don’t sell themselves! If you are a breeder, riding instructor, trainer, boarding facility, or horse dealer, you are going to need to reach and impress your potential customers in order to sell them your products and services. How do you do that? Just follow the steps illustrated below and you’ll be well on your way to enjoying a successful horse-related business!

1.) Know who your customers are. Who needs your products and services? If you are a training facility, then people with untrained horses need you. If you are a boarding facility, then horse owners who don’t have space at home for their horses need you. If you are a riding instructor, then your potential customers are anyone who wants to learn how to ride horses. You get the picture! A big part of making sure your horse business works is identifying your customers.

2.) Find out where your customers hang out. Where do horse people congregate? At feed and tack stores, at horse shows, at online horse-related web sites and chat rooms, to name just a few. Now break it down even further. Let’s say you are a breeder of Morgan horses. Sure, you’ll find some Morgan enthusiasts at the tack shop and feed store, but you’ll likely find them in droves at breed-specific shows. Find out what newspapers and magazines your potential customers read as well.

3.) Advertise! Now that you’ve done all that research to determine who your customers are, where they hang out, and what they read, it’s time to put your product and service in front of them! Put ads in magazines and newspapers that they read, hang up flyers at tack and feed stores, and advertise in show programs.

4.) Know how to write a good advertisement. How you come across to your potential customers will make all the difference in the world when it comes to whether or not they will choose your products and services over those of a competitor. Be creative and give your ads a little zing! Make them memorable. Let’s say you are selling a horse. Instead of writing an ad that only tells the horse’s color, size, breed, and discipline, try adding impressive bloodlines if appropriate, accolades won, and personality traits that you think your customers will appreciate. An ad that is personal and tells the audience more than just the dry details is sure to get a lot of response.

5.) Set yourself apart by giving away some freebies. Give something away for free, and the customers will come to you. Your give-away can be as simple and cost-effective as an open barn day that allows the community to come and enjoy your facility, or your could go large-scale and sponsor a class at a show. Remember, the goal is to get your name out there in front of those who would benefit from your product or service. Be creative!

6.) Know that word of mouth can make you or break you. Your current customers are the best advertisements you have. Work to retain them, and do what you can to make them happy. They’ll tell friends, who will tell more friends, and so on. Run your business with integrity and honesty, and treat your customers fairly. Always represent your products and services truthfully. The old adage under promise and over deliver works well in the horse world, too!

Wit h a little marketing knowledge in hand, you’ll have your horse business up and running in no time. Good luck!

Toyoto Becomes Number One Car Company; Thanks General Motors

“Thank you so much for making Toyota number one,” the chairman of Toyota, Fujio Cho, said to Richard Wagoner, the CEO of General Motors, and leaned across the conference table to shake his hand.

“Think nothing of it,” Mr. Wagoner replied, obliging the Japanese exec. “The credit belongs entirely to you and your quality-obsessed company.”

“No, no,” the Japanese CEO insisted. “We could never have done it without your reliable incompetence.”

“On the contrary, sir,” the GM CEO replied, eyeing the other American and Japanese executives arrayed around the conference table, “the credit is entirely due to your astonishing competence. After all, you and your company have figured out how to make cars people actually want to buy - form and function, attractively combined.”

“Yes, I think that’s true,” the CEO of Toyota conceded.

“And you’ve figured out how to make cars that are legendarily reliable,” Wagoner went on.

“Yes, I must also agree with that.”

“Then how is it possible that you are thanking me for helping to make you number one?” Mr. Wagoner wanted to know. “I do not deserve any of the credit whatsoever!”

“But, don’t you see, Mr. Wagoner? We owe our success to the fact that you have not quite figured out how to make cars that people actually want to buy!”

“We’re working on it,” the CEO of GM replied.

“And have you figured out how to make legendarily reliable cars?”

“We’re also working on that.”

“May I ask if you have been successful at either endeavor?”

“I said we’re working on getting there.”

“But, Mr. Wagoner, how is it possible that after all these years of making cars you are still working on two such important objectives? Of course, I am not referring to you and your highly competent current executives, but only to your predecessors, and I am sure you will do much better.”

“Thank you. I’ll tell you why we’re having a difficulty or two. Your company came along, Mr. Cho, and set the bar higher than it was.”

“We did?

“I insist. Much higher.”

“And how were we able to set it higher?”

“You tell me.”

“Because you set it so wonderfully low.”

“We did?”

“What other explanation can there be, Mr. Wagoner? And now you are struggling to catch up, which, if I may be frank, is another way of saying you have failed to do so.

But -

- I beg your forgiveness, my distinguished friend, but if that isn’t incompetence, I don’t know what is. Of course, as I said, not your incompetence, only that of your predecessors. Yet, if I may be so bold, please, accept my gratitude.”

Internal Herbal Cleansing

Herbal cleansing has become very popular in the world today and comes in many different forms. One can go to an alternative health clinic for advanced forms of herbal cleansing or simply take herbal supplements at home.

There are many products on the market in the form of pills or powders with various herbal combinations depending on the particular type of cleansing you wish to undertake.

One can take herbs to cleanse the liver, kidneys, and other vital organs. The most popular form of herbal cleansing however, is to clean the intestines. The purpose behind herbal cleansing is to remove wastes and toxins from the body so cleansing the intestines is the logical choice.

An efficiently functioning digestive tract will help support and nourish the body. Properly formulated herbal supplements can assist the elimination of wastes and improve the assimilation of nutrients in the body.

Many alternative health practitioners believe that ill health begins in the colon and the first step in preventing and treating disease is to cleanse the digestive tract. Our modern diet of heavily processed food along with sedentary lifestyles contributes to the accumulation of waste products in the colon and a sluggish digestive system.

Herbal cleansing help restore the body to its normal state of being able to repair itself and ward off disease. Some claim that herbal cleansing remedies can help rid the body of parasites which could be responsible for a variety of diseases.

Another claim of herbal cleansing products is that the herbs help to loosen old material in the intestines and allow it to pass out of the body. In addition, some herbs may help to tone the bowels to allow them to function more normally to aid in the rapid elimination of wastes.

There are actually many varieties of herbal supplements on the market today and the function will depend upon which herbs are used in the product. You can easily find herbal cleansing products at your local health food store. You can also shop for them online where you will be assured of having access to a huge variety of products and be able to research them and then compare prices before you buy.

When buying herbs it is important to buy quality standardized herbal preparations. It is usually not a good idea to buy herbal supplements based on price alone. Stick with well known and respected name brands and if you have any questions, consult your physician or alternative healthcare provider for medical advice.

If you currently are on prescription medication or have an illness, it is particularly important to talk with your doctor before adding herbal supplements to your diet as some herbs may react with your medications.

Making Profits in Real Estate

We have all seen people making fortunes by investing in the stock markets and at the same time millionaires turning into paupers. This rarely does happen with real estate investing. There are living examples among us that some of us may or may not be aware of. A good example is the properties we inherit. The values of these have been growing all these years with appreciation annually. The investment was made years ago. Over the years the increase in the property value is the returns that we are benefiting from these days.

Real Estate

A Real Estate is a piece of land with all its natural resources and more often than not contains a building of some sort. You can take any type of building that is either a constructed or a manufactured property, however an immovable property is always permanently affixed to the land.

Why The Rush To Invest In Real Estate?

* Falling stock market has generated fear psychosis among the investment community reminding them of the Great Depression.

* Failing pension system with growing inflation has added to the woes of the retirees and employees.

* Lower interest rates have compelled the money to be diverted somewhere else for higher returns.

* Moreover banks are willing to extend loans for the purchase of land and buildings at lower interest rates.

How Lucrative Is The Real Estate Business?

Real estate has wide options for making money; one being to buy and either hold it or rent it. Likewise other benefits are:

* With the rents from the tenants continuous cash flow is guaranteed.

* Mortgage loans from banks help in buying with or without personal investment.

* In case of mortgage loans, the cash flow by way of rents will continually reduce the principal borrowed.

* Improvement of the locality will in turn increase the value of the property overtime.

Statistics reveal that housing is a low risk investment. Gauging by the market trend the average market value of the homes has risen by 50% in the past 10 years. The wealth earned from the real estate investment has surpassed that of the stock market returns indicating the faith of the investors in real estate. This is a sign of an upward trend in the days to come.

Haven’t we all heard of our neighbors making big bucks in real estate very often? Every now and then we see some one selling off a home or a real estate property in a week or two of buying it for a big profit. Every one of you, like I, must have thought real estate is where quick money is. But is the market quite so? Can anyone make quick money by investing in real estate? Unfortunately, it is not quite so, although we rarely, if ever, hear people loosing money in real estate investment.

Making quick money is something that takes a lot of preparation and planning before investment, when you are invested and when selling or closing the deal. Further more, the investment amount is not small too, which no one can ignore. A slight mistake in prediction or a change in the legislation concerning real estate property or tourism or industry sector has the potential to turn over the whole real estate economy on its head resulting in wiping out of your capital too.

Any real estate broker would vouch for this fact. Take a scenario, for example. These brokers, in addition to brokering deals, also enter into contracts with sellers for selling off their property by making a down payment, which obligates them to sell at higher than the contracted price. Federal housing loan rates have revised now and there prevails a real estate slump, which is unforeseen. Wealthy brokers can wait till turn around of the market and still make a profit but they are still tied down by the blocked money. The case will be worse for smaller players with this condition.

Similarly, speculative investors are either forced to sell at loss or wait for unknown periods of times. The burden of interest you have to pay if you invested borrowed money might eat into your capital too, if the slump prolongs.

Unlike in stock and shares investment arena, you don’t have enough instruments in real estate to spread your risks and investment. All is fine when market booms but tough gets the going when things go awry. Lesson: longer you are invested better will be the return; no room for quick money, in general.

Choosing The Right Financial Advisor For You

Nothing comes for nothing:

There is no such thing as free advice. Commission disclosure, consumer knowledge and increasing regulations have forced most of the rogues out of business. However, remember that if you use the services of an adviser, at some stage they must have some hope of getting paid or of selling you something that pays them a commission.

Look for an upfront declaration:

A competent honest adviser will make it clear how they are paid and happily tell you in detail how this happens. Somewhere, somehow, people need to be paid. If it is not clear to you how your adviser is paid, keep on asking. You must understand how they are paid, so you can understand their bias.

Plan for your first meeting:

At your first meeting, or over the phone, get straight to the point about your position and what you want. Professional advisers who are successful have good technical skills, but they also have strong people skills. Advice is a personal business and few advisers will be willing to offend people by saying early in a meeting that you are just not the sort of client they want to look after, so it really is up to you to be able to succinctly say, ‘Hey, this is my situation, am I the sort of client you service?’

Build a relationship:

The best advisers want to give you ongoing advice and will charge you an annual fee for this. It is important to have an ongoing relationship with your adviser. You want someone who will understand your needs and help you solve your investment problems now and in the future. You don’t want someone who sells you a product, takes the commission and then forgets you. Be very cautious about an adviser who only earns a commission when you buy something. They will only wish to see you on an ongoing basis if you want to buy something or they can sell you something. Frankly, if the ‘advice’ is always free and the adviser only makes money when you buy product, it is very hard to see how you are ever going to get unbiased advice.

Be sure they are working for you:

A good adviser should be giving you quality advice that suits your needs - not using you to help fund his or her personal deals. One of the great traps in financial advice is buying deals from the adviser when the adviser is personally involved in the deals. A professional adviser needs to keep a critical eye on your investments. This means that they should not be personally involved. If they have lots of their money tied up in the deal, this may sound like a good thing to you, but it may also cause the adviser to become too emotionally tied to the investment, leading to poor decisions on your behalf.

Know what you have got and know what you want:

Don’t expect a professional adviser to waste valuable time trying to work out things that really you only know. Approaching an adviser in a logical, prepared fashion will pay big dividends. The biggest obstacle to finding a professional adviser is not being clear about what you want. So, before you find an adviser, sit down with a pencil and piece of paper somewhere quiet and pour a glass of wine if it helps. Write down all of your assets and liabilities, your income and spending habits. Think about your aspirations for your career, relationships, any dependents and estate planning. List your insurance and your long-term goals. Consider when you want to stop work, how much income you would like to have.

Planning to Travel Abroad? Leave These Items at Home!

Anyone who travels regularly is aware of luggage and carry-on restrictions post 9-11. However, if you travel abroad, there are other considerations to keep in mind. No foreign country wants undesirable insects, rodents, or diseases to infiltrate their population via border crossings.

Before reading further, remember that if you have outstanding police warrants or a criminal record, you should probably forget about foreign travel. Period.

* What NOT to Take With You *

Regulations vary by country. The snacks you pack for a domestic flight may not pass customs inspection for an overseas destination. Start with a good dose of ‘common sense’ and you will quickly realize why most of the items on the following list are not permitted:

- Beer, wine, or other alcoholic beverages that have been opened

- Pets without appropriate vaccination certificates

- Native wildlife

- Weapons - or toys and other items that look like weapons

- Big game bagged while on your safari or hunting trip

- Prescription drugs without an accompanying doctor’s prescription

- Drugs, vitamins, or nutritional supplements with unreadable labels

- Illegal drugs or paraphernalia - *DEATH PENALTY* in some countries

- Potted houseplants, seeds, soil, pebbles, or sand

- Natural products like seashells, pieces of coral reef, whalebone

- Uncooked pork, poultry, beef, and other meat or animal products

- Unprocessed or uncooked vegetables, fruits, tubers, roots, etc.

- Hay, straw, oats, and similar items

- Any other natural products that may harbor diseases or pests

- Fireworks and incendiary devices

- Clothing and souvenirs manufactured with any of the above products

Some prohibited articles may be allowed with appropriate permits or certification. If you don’t know for sure - don’t pack them or bring them back home with you.

* What you MUST Take With You *

Imagine your chagrin should you go through customs on your return trip and discover that you must pay duty on your laptop computer, digital camera, and jewelry - even though you purchased them in your own country prior to your trip. Yes, it can - and does - happen. Protect yourself!

Pack copies of documents such as sales receipts, credit card statements, insurance policies, and appraisals for all valuable items to prove ownership and purchase date - especially for anything that looks like new.

No receipts or paperwork? Take a picture of each item next to a newspaper that plainly displays a readable date. Note the serial number(s) with each photo. Keep all photos and paperwork in a safe place along with your passport and other important documents. They will be invaluable when you fill in customs declarations - both leaving and returning.

* Do Your Homework *

Spend some time doing research on the internet before you travel. You should be able to find a government or embassy website that provides the regulations online. Do searches such as:

- customs regulations France

- customs regulations Spain

- customs regulations Brazil

- customs regulations USA

Advance investigation may save you considerable time, money, and effort as you pass through each border crossing.

Be aware! The resulting peace of mind will make your holiday much more enjoyable.

Leather Pet Clothing: Cool, Effective, and Trendy

Dogs were never designed to wear any sort of clothing. Their fur and natural physiology give them ample protection against their habitat’s weather. People sometimes forget that dogs are hardy creatures that can brave conditions that would make any man wilt.

However, this does not mean that clothing is inappropriate or even cumbersome to dogs. While dogs have traditionally gone without clothing, there have been some factors that have made owners realize that clothes can make a dog’s life a lot more comfortable.

Reasons for Clothing

For one, while dogs are built for their environments, you will find that many pets live outside their intended habitats. This is because pet owner sometimes purchase dogs and take them to climes different from their accustomed ones.

Some dogs that are acclimated to extremely cold temperatures have trouble adapting to humid climes. This will surely result in rashes and skin irritations.

Some dogs have insufficient fur and acclimation to cold weather. This could lead to them suffering from any number of weather induced illnesses. This makes purchasing clothes for your pets a must especially if you want your pets to be comfortable even during extreme weather.

And believe it or not, some dogs love clothes just for the simple reason that it gets them more attention. Dogs love it when they see that the clothes they are wearing make their masters happy. They also like the extra attention they get from wearing clothing.

In any case, the simple fact that clothing can protect your pet from the elements and the fact that they would enjoy the attention as well should be enough reason to buy your pet clothing. For climates that are drafty, and cold, leather clothing can be a great choice to help repel cold, moisture, and the elements.

Getting Leather Clothing for Fido

Leather clothing is tough, durable, and is usually water repellent. Plus, leather clothing has the added advantage of protecting against pretty much anything outdoors that could harm your pet - thorns, moisture, dust, sun exposure, and others.

It would be best if you became intimately acquainted with the advantages and disadvantages of leather clothing so that you can make the right decision regarding your pet’s clothing.

Leather is a good protectant. Leather does well under most punishing weather. If it is too cold, leather provides warmth. If it is too windy, leather serves as a good shield. If it is raining, it at least keeps water out - although pet raincoats would probably be better for this condition.

It will even give good protection under harsh sunlight, but only when it is not humid, and if the heat is bearable.

Remember, that leather is not a material that allows air to circulate freely through it. On the other hand, your dog does not sweat through its coat; it releases heat through its tongue and its ears (which accounts for all that panting). Breathable material, therefore, is not that required.

Leather makes for a cool costume. Leather always gives off a gruff, tough image that would be fun on a bulldog. You might like to try it with pugs as well. Leather can also give a sophisticated look to feminine, classy dogs such as collies. In any case, leather is an extremely versatile and fun costume to put on your dog.

A bomber jacket would look great on a tough dog; it won’t really make them look intimidating, it will actually make them look adorable. Many wacky owners actually take to buying matching jackets for them and the dogs.

Watch for irritations. You do have to make sure that the materials used for these clothes do not irritate the dog’s skin. Watch out for skin eruptions, irritation, and itching. You should also make sure that there is not adverse effect on the dog’s fur.

If you see your dog constantly tugging and pulling at their clothes then they may have some irritation due to the leather material. It is either this or they are still uncomfortable with clothes.

It can be hard to encourage the dog to wear leather. Dogs may feel uncomfortable with clothes since they are, after all, not used to them. You can speed up their conditioning by offering them treats for wearing their clothes. However, leather doesn’t grow on them as easy due to their bulk and their relative lack of flexibility.

Conclusion

In sum, leather is a good choice of clothing to dogs due to its protective nature and style. It shouldn’t be too hard to get your pet to wear these clothes as well.

I love to knit. Not discounting the occasional cuss word when perfect is not achieved, I have to say I find it relaxing and knitting brings me peace.

That said, there was “The Sweater”.

I had picked out a sweet cabled cardigan for my then four year old granddaughter. Ashley has soft brown hair and a pixie look about her. When I looked at that pattern, I pictured her romping through fields of wild flowers with a gentle breeze blowing through her tumbling locks….get the picture?

I picked a steel blue yarn and settled into my rocker for a decent session of knitting. Armed with a cup of tea, I cast on the back of “The Sweater”. I will not go into the detail of the trials and tribulations of completing a sweater I know originated in the depths of hell. When I was too far into the project to even consider frogging it, I had faced typos, pattern errors and instructions that skipped entire sections of needed directions.

I tensed every time I even looked at the knitting bag that held that sweater. I found any excuse to start and knit to completion many other projects while “The Sweater” lay in wait. Christmas loomed. I NEEDED to get on with Ashley’s sweater. At this point all my other grandchildren had a finished sweater.

One morning as I was complaining to my daughter, Lori, about my ordeal, she chastised me for knitting bad thoughts and vibes into her niece’s gift.

That conversation got me to thinking. Knitting a gift for someone we love is as close to hugging them as we can get without actually enveloping them in our arms. Generally, as I knit on something for someone I love, I am filled with warmth and feelings of joy. I think that’s why we get so passionate about knitting. We are literally sharing a piece of ourselves with the recipient.

After that chat with Lori I decided to change my attitude about Ashley’s sweater. As I knit on it, I thought about how beautifully the pieces were fitting together, I patted myself on the back for overcoming a very poorly written pattern and creating a lovely sweater.

When I wrapped that sweater in tissue I actually caressed it before putting the box cover on. I loved that sweater.

I will never knit harsh thoughts into another gift for a cherished loved one. I will, good naturedly, approach each difficult step with positive thoughts and I will frog the sucker immediately if I feel one iota of negativity flowing from my fingers to that yarn!

NextStudent Offers PLUS Loans for Graduate and Professional Students

According to Phoenix-based NextStudent, a premier education funding company, the proliferation of graduate and professional programs has led to new sources of education funding designed to benefit these goal-orientated students who are, in essence, beginning their career by continuing on in their education. As the job market in the United States continues to generate a need for applicants who are highly competitive in specified fields from technology to the ever-growing medical field, undergraduate students across the country are beginning to feel the squeeze as graduate and professional degrees become “must-haves” for even intermediate and entry-level positions.

The decision to continue education onto the graduate and professional level is one that oftentimes comes with considerable financial stress because of the continued financial obligation. However, NextStudent’s Graduate PLUS Loan ( www.nextstudent.com/ http://www.nextstudent.com/ ) Program may allow borrowers to fund up to the full cost of their education (less any financial aid received), including living expenses, books, supplies and even computers.

NextStudent now offers a PLUS Loan Program for graduate and professional students with rates starting as low as 8.5 percent. The Graduate PLUS Loan Program features the same benefits directly to graduate and professional students that parents of undergraduate students receive from traditional PLUS loans ( www.nextstudent.com/plus_loans/plus_loans.asp http://www.nextstudent.com/plus_loans/plus_loans.asp ). Because NextStudent Graduate PLUS loans are federally sponsored, they offer many of the perks of traditional PLUS loans, including eligibility for federal student loan consolidation ( www.nextstudent.com/consolidation_loans/consolidation_loans.asp http://www.nextstudent.com/consolidation_loans/consolidation_loans.asp ), tax-deductible interest and a variety of repayment options.

Eligibility and Credit Resolution

NextStudent offers a simple online application process through E-Signature, and many prospects who apply online qualify within minutes. Also offered is a “second look” for borrowers who receive an initial denial because of unresolved credit issues. NextStudent has a PLUS Credit Resolution Team that has an 87 percent success rate at resolving borrowers’ credit issues, resulting in funded PLUS loans.

Graduate PLUS loans ( www.nextstudent.com/plus_loans/plus_loans.asp http://www.nextstudent.com/plus_loans/plus_loans.asp ) easily are accessible to many students. To qualify a student must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible noncitizen. Although a credit check is required, many students with limited or no credit history still qualify for Graduate PLUS loans.

Flexible Repayment Options and Aggressive Incentives

With all the great incentives offered by NextStudent and its Graduate PLUS Loan Program, now is the right time for students to take the next step and go for their graduate degree.

NextStudent Graduate PLUS loans offer several repayment options including deferred repayment while a student is enrolled in school at least half time, and there are no prepayment penalties, ever. There also is a 3 percent cash rebate at repayment on the remaining principal balance after the first 12 months of consecutive on-time payments when student borrowers pay through Auto-Debit. In addition, a 2 percent interest rate reduction is available after the first 48 months of consecutive on-time payments when student borrowers pay through Auto-Debit. Student borrowers receive a .25 percent reduction when they choose repayment through Auto-Debit.

NextStudent, federal lender code 834051, is dedicated to helping students and their families find affordable ways to pay for college. NextStudent offers one-on-one education finance counseling and has a portfolio of highly competitive education finance products and services including a free online scholarship search engine, federally guaranteed parent and student loans, private student loans, both federal and private student loan consolidation ( www.nextstudent.com/consolidation_loans/consolidation_loans.asp http://www.nextstudent.com/consolidation_loans/consolidation_loans.asp ) programs, and college savings plans.
