Shyness can be a huge problem for some people especially when it comes to dating and social interaction. Sometimes being shy can be a big plus when it comes to relationships. When you leave they will say “what a lovely person to talk to” in fact you may have only said a couple of words. People will love you for being interested and taking the time to see how they are.

If you like you can use visualisation, picture yourself talking to people with ease in social situations.

Getting people to talk about themselves can be useful if your on a first date, you can sit and listen. Only disclose as much about yourself as you want to. Some things are better left unsaid, left in the passed where they belong. We only come to this earth once as far as I know, this is our one shot at life, sometimes we need to put all our fears aside and go for it, whatever ‘it’ is. So don’t let shyness stop you from doing what you want to. Life is too Short.

One friend of mine asked me recently why all men are crazy about playing football or what is known in United States as soccer. Beach soccer, as you can tell by its name, is a sport played on the beaches; preferably during spring or summer time. Although it has been played informally for decades, it was given its official name and rules only recently and specifically in 1992. Since then it managed to become a rather popular sport and I believe that if you really want to learn something about soccer you should better start playing it on the beach.

Playing soccer on the beach is considered by many fans as the paradise of the apprentice. The soft-sand playing surface can correct some usual mistakes for a beginner, as the ball often stacks on it. Actually, the element of sand does only facilitate the efforts of new players, but it is considered a heavy obstacle even for those experienced ones that wish to show off their abilities. Plus the compact pitch -measuring 28 x 37 meters if there is an official beach soccer facility- is by far smaller than the grass field and makes scoring easier, even for players who decide to try it for the first time.

A great advantage of beach soccer is the fact that one needs no special equipment to play it. Once the warm weather hits, if you’re like me, you don’t like to cook. The stove heats up my whole house, and since I don’t have air conditioning, this is a major problem!

There are some dishes however, that I love to prepare and enjoy in the summer time.

Here are my top ten summer dishes!

1) Gazpacho

This soup is so refreshing, and very healthy too! We prepared this soup for our Vegetarian Cooking class at Thyme to Cook, www.thymetocook.ca http://www.thymetocook.ca make it as spicy as your like! My favorite gazpacho recipe is posted on the Recipe page.

2) Pasta Salad

Another summer classic! You can make it with just about anything you have on hand. I like to make mine with cheese ravioli, broccoli, peppers, sunflower seeds and a vinaigrette. I find that using a ravioli makes the dish a lot more hearty. This is best prepared the night before, so the flavour becomes more intense. You can use the stove right before bedtime so the increase of temperature doesn’t bother you as much.

3) Broccoli salad

This is an old favorite. A roommate of mine had me convinced that this was his original recipe. Well, he turned out to be the worst roommate ever, and the recipe turned out to be a classic that I could easily find on the internet. I wish I had known that earlier, I might have kicked him out sooner You can find a good recipe here.

4) Veggie Dogs

Since I am a vegetarian, I prefer the meat free version of hot dogs. They are tasty grilled and served on a toasted bun with lots of garlic mustard, and maybe some cheese. Easy, fast and makes me feel like I’m 7 again.

5)Tomato, mozzarella and basil with olive oil and balsamic vinegar

A classic Italian appetizer, easy to prepare and delicious. Use all fresh ingredients from an Italian grocery store for the best results.

6) Alfalfa sprout, tomato and mayo sandwich

My favorite sandwich from the time I was about 8. Toasted multi grain bread, with summer fresh tomatoes, lots of alfalfa sprouts and a bit of mayo!

7) Corn on the Cob

Here in Guelph we have Strom’s corn, which I believe has the best corn I have ever tasted! There are many different varieties, ready to be cooked in whichever way you choose.

Summer Rolls

You can find rice wrappers at any oriental grocery store. Here in Guelph, I prefer to go to Tan Dai. There are a wide range of rice wrappers, from plain to sesame seed and much more.

You can cater your ingredients to taste. I usually make them with: Smoked Tofu, rice noodles, mint, carrots, and lettuce (a dark green lettuce). You could also use shrimp, peppers, udon noodles, cilantro…. the list is endless. Have all of your ingredients chopped into thin strips and ready, I find little glass prep bowls make this much easier, and they look so cute too! Have a shallow dish of water to dip the rice paper into.

To assemble:

Dip the rice paper in water. Place thin strips of ingredients down center of wrapper. Fold like you would a tortilla, or in any style you choose. Here is a page with some ideas. Place seam down on a serving dish. Continue to make as many as you need. These can be prepared the same morning as you need them, but they will dry out if you make them too far in advance.

9) Portobello mushroom burgers:

Before this year, I was a mushroom hater. The first barbque i went to this year, I was served Grilled portobello mushrooms with Brie cheese. Now, I’m willing to admit that I am a converted mushroom lover.

For best results, marinate the burgers for a few hours before serving. Place on a hot grill, and cook about 5 minutes per side. In the final minute, add cheese if you are serving. I find that Brie makes the best addition, but you could also use provolone, mozzarella or goats cheese. Serve either on a bun or alone!

10) Grilled Fish

fish is light, easy to digest and cooks quickly! There is a wonderful teriyaki recipe at Thyme to Cook. Use your favorite fish, and experiment with the best way to grill it! You can find lots of ideas here.

Many possible technologies exist that can power web based games. Php, HTML, CGI and Java amongst them, but the most common plugin used to design browser games by far is Adobe Flash, previously known as Macromedia Flash. One of the biggest reasons for this is that Flash has become a definite web standard.

Many PCs come with the Flash player installed. It is compatible with Linux, Apple Mac, BSD, cellphones, PDAs and a whole host of other devices. Over 520 million unique installations of Flash have been recorded, and it has been around since the days of Windows 98. This statistic accounts for approximately 95% of all Internet users.

Flash Player is also a free download, so if the user does not have it, it’s only a few seconds and negligible bandwidth away, no matter the platform. Likewise, Adobe Flash is a comparably cheap product for the developers, and time input required is minimal to create simple games, compared to using other technologies.

A powerful but often overlooked feature of Flash is that it makes small files. For ten megabytes, in Flash, you can get a full featured game. This helps Flash to appeal to dialup or slower broadband users where Java or C couldn’t. Flash can also use database connectivity to save scoreboards, progress and account details, which is rare in a format so smooth.

Flash is efficient, applets made in it tend to run on computers that you’d be hard-pressed to find outside of an antique shop. It is the empowering technology of choice on a certain well-known pet site, which almost certainly has users on dialup and on poor computers.

Something to remember is that Browser Games have a completely different TA (target audience) than that of AAA list games. Browser games are made for the casual player, someone who wants to play immediately and at his/her convenience, as such it must load fast, play fast and keep the user’s interest. Developing a successful Flash game is very difficult, because generally if a user becomes disinterested, one or two clicks will take him/her to a completely different game.

So, what about monetizing a Flash game? Well, the standard is based on the shareware model. You have a teaser version of a game on a website and then allow users to download a ‘Deluxe’ build for a set fee. Often the producer will allow lots of sites to list their ‘teaser’ games; this is a clever form of viral marketing.

Possibly the most solid reason to use Flash is that it would always be fairly easy to find people willing to draw in the Flash SWF vector format. Other technologies would require external animation but with Flash, the motion, the drawing and the script can all be done in a single interface.

Graphical objects within this interface can have specified alpha values, positionings, angles of rotation, explosion effects and many built in motion tweening effects. It is this versatility and built in function that makes it a real joy to work with.

Flash is fast-becoming the only standard for browser based gaming, because it requires no real programming knowledge. The scripting language is very well explained on several websites, and in the included tutorials.

But the main reason? Simple. There are many very dedicated sites out there which will effectively get your product out for free. Even if all the other points in this article didn’t exist, it is the only format with true open distribution.
