The Miracle of Disciplined Questions

How Our Mind Works.

Human being are creatures of selective focus, we don’t consciously register everything that exists and occurs in our environment but rather we register only that which we focus on.

Try this simple experiment that demonstrates this principle.

Start by looking around the room you are currently in, and remember everything in the room which is blue….

Don’t cheat! Stop and look around….. (and only after you have done that, continue reading)

Now that you have looked around and remembered all the things in your room which are blue….

Without looking around the room again…. List everything in the room which is yellow…….

Did you notice anything yellow while you were looking for blue?

The yellow things are there all along, but because we we selectively focusing on the blue, we don’t notice the yellow.

Our mind works like this in all things. If we look for the reasons why something is bad, we we see lots of reasons why it is bad, and not see all the reasons it is good.

We Choose Our own Reality

When we understand how our mind works selectively, we understand how the exactly same set of circumstances can be good for one person and bad for another, as it is not the circumstances, but rather how we choose to look at the circumstances that determines their positive or negative nature.

It is not what actually objectively occurs that matters, but rather how we choose to look at that occurance!

The knowledge that we have the direct ability to change the nature of a situation by simply changing how we choose to view the situation is incredibly powerful.

Questions - A Practical Application

When we look at using this knowledge in a practical way, the question that arises is how can we practically and reliably focus our thinking as a means to changing how we interact with the world.

The quality of the answers we find in life is directly dependent on the quality of the questions we ask.

Take for an example early astronomers, why could none of these men calculate an accurate calendar? It was not because they were stupid, it was because they were asking a low quality question.

The question that the early astronomers were trying to answer was How do the planets and sun revolve around the earth? It wasn’t until the quality of the question was improved to How do the earth and other planets revolve around the sun? that astronomers were able to arrive at a quality answer (ie an accurate calender).

How does this apply to us? We choose the answers we get in our lives by choosing the questions we ask of ourselves. If we ask ourselves how we can get a good job, we won’t be starting a business anytime soon… If we ask ourselves how we can create massive value in the marketplace and have fun doing it, we are well on the way to building a fortune!

Constant Reminders

It is very easy to get all excited by a new idea and practice it for a few days or weeks, and then get distracted by life and let go of the idea which if persisted with could have made a significant change to our life.

A good way of combating this tendency is to commence the habit of regular positive input. Set aside some time every day or two to read something inspirational or educational, listen to audio programs daily whilst driving or on the train.

By making sure you have some positive input every day to remind you to persist with your resolution to discipline the questions you ask yourself, you can make significant changes in your life by using the power of focus.

Copywriting Tips to Make Any Website Sell Better

It’s a fact that one website will pull many times the leads or sales as a competing website. What causes this large variance in results? It’s the copywriting on the website.

Here’s what works best from actual results and testing on dozens of websites we’ve done the copywriting for.

1. Websites have one main end purpose and that is to sell your products and/or services, to move people to action, to make money. In today’s high-tech world, most copywriting on websites forgets this vital fact and that is why they don’t perform better.

2. Make the website easy to “scan” with headlines, sub headlines, boxes, sections, colors and the like that give the reader the main benefits he will get. Almost all people are “scan first” or “scan only” readers. The headlines and sub headlines should take advantage of this fact.

3. Tell the reader what he will LOSE if he does not take the recommended action. Fear of loss is a great motivator.

4. Build up excitement, enthusiasm, passion and urgency to get the reader to take the desired action right now. Yes, excitement is contagious and it sells!

5. Make a great offer to get the prospect’s email address. In today’s overcrowded environment and with spam concerns, it’s not enough to just say “enter your email address for our newsletter.” Make a great offer including special reports, bonuses and the like in addition to the newsletter to get the maximum number of qualified signups.

6. Focus the copywriting because people want to buy from the expert specialists in a field. If the copy is too broad it will lose a lot of the best prospects, who of course, are the most likely to buy. A great way to do this is to have separated focused web pages for separate types of people or industries on the website.

7. Make the website as easy to use and find things as Amazon.com (for consumers) or Dell.com (for businesses). The copywriting and organization of these sites is a key reason they are ultra-successful.

8. Start thinking like the website reader (the prospect) and stop thinking like the marketer. Figure out what the prospect wants most from the products or services that they deliver, then come right out and tell him what benefits he’ll get, why, and what he needs to do now. Simple but it brings in billions.

9. Compare the product or service against the competitors to show and prove it’s superiority.

10. Copywriting is king and queen for the website to sell the maximum number of people. The right copywriting can bring up to double, even triple or more the current results for no additional marketing cost. Hire the best copywriter the business can afford, and don’t skimp because this one-time investment can be one of the best investments.

11. Test everything, measure it, use the winner, and always keep testing. This is the key to “optimizing” the website and all your marketing. Don’t guess - test and let the only vote that matters (the prospects) decide what works best.

Buying A Used Car

While there are many good quality used cars out there with only one careful owner and there are also unscrupulous dealers out there who will swear that the car has only been driven by their grandma.

So when looking for a used car you should use common sense and a little judgement. Some of the main pitfalls which you should be aware of and which you should avoid at all costs are laid out below to help you avoid buying an ‘old crate’.

One of the most common rip-offs which is seen in used cars is tampering with the odometer. This allows the seller to change the mileage from a high amount to a lower one to make it look as though the car hasn’t done as many miles as it actually has done.

You should always pay close attention to the dashboard. Things like lose screws could mean signs of tampering. Chips on the grille, bumper and bonnet could also indicate high mileage.

Always be on the lookout for any signs that the car has been “cut and shut”. This means that two halves of separate cars that have been involved in accidents have been welded together.

Bring along someone who knows about cars with you to the viewing as two heads are better than one. And don’t forget to do a test drive.

The car should always come with documents and recent MOT certificates. If for whatever the reason the dealer doesn’t offer you documents or gives you excuses for not having them, then run away from the deal as fast as you can.

Finally, a good way to check out a cars history is to have a vehicle data check done. This will look at the car’s background and show up whether it has been stolen or if there is outstanding finance on it, plus whether the mileage is correct.

Louis Rix is Director of Netcars.co.uk http://Netcars.co.uk ( www.netcars.co.uk)one http://www.netcars.co.uk)one of the UK’s leading motoring websites. Established in 2000, its mission is to become the UK’s number one site for used car searches and motoring information. Netcars also provide car finance, loans and insurance.

Thrive on Shift & Change

Bodacious means to be bold, outstanding, and remarkable. Take those attributes to work and you’re on your way to building a fulfilling, bodacious career. Does having a bodacious career sound exciting to you? It is! After starting as an $8 an hour customer service rep, I rose through the ranks of AOL, accepting four promotions and surviving over six layoffs to become the head of corporate training for 12,000 employees. Along the way I learned I needed to be bodacious to achieve the career I wanted. Out of that experience I created my cheat sheet of ten essential Bodacious Career Builders. Here’s number seven: Thrive on Shift and Change.

At AOL, my entire career was about rapid shift and change. For the first seven years, I was totally focused on the call center. I was promoted from customer service rep to trainer to training manager and then to call center manager. Soon other areas of my life - namely one last-ditch effort to save my marriage after a year’s separation - demanded that I make a major change. I needed to shift some of the energy I was dedicating to AOL into reviving my marriage

I considered leaving the company altogether, but that seemed too drastic. So I started looking around the company to see where else I might be able to offer value. After 10 years and more than 1200 employees, the company still had no management training program and the new human resources VP was looking for a corporate training manager.

I knew I could help in developing and influencing this group of contributors. I thought I could have a greater impact throughout the organization and remove myself from the pressure-cooker atmosphere of the call center. Instead of ten- to twelve-hour days, maybe I could reduce it to eight or nine.

I didn’t wait until I saw a job posting. I took the initiative and contacted the VP Although I was motivated to make a change for personal reasons, I emphasized to him my desire to help build the company from the inside out by quickly developing skilled managers. I didn’t want him to know about my personal life, partly because it wasn’t his concern but also because I wanted to maintain my reputation for being competent, efficient, and successful. So, courage in hand, I asked for a new role. Within a few days he made me a job offer; corporate training manager. My burgeoning Bodacious Career took another turn.

>From this experience and countless others, I gained a few ideas about dealing with change. Consider these for your own Bodacious Career.

As you thrive on shift and change, expect some initial discomfort. Old weaknesses and insecurities that you managed to efficiently camouflage in the old systems suddenly make themselves obvious again. The stress of change can lower your immunity system and cause you to catch the flu, a cold or a case of hives. You may temporarily feel like a mess.

Learn to lead with your value. Trust that you can be resourceful. As you research options, look beneath the surface. The alchemy of your passions, combined with external needs may create an opportunity for you that hadn’t existed before.

Get outside perspective whenever you can. You may not know how good you really are until you leave your fishbowl. When we’re sealed up in our own environment, working hard, and focusing on the tasks immediately in front of us, we can lose perspective. So get out there! You may discover that you are further ahead than you thought.

Shifting and changing may cause you to go through some major culture shocks and climate changes. As with every alteration in your life you create or any alteration that comes you way (let’s face it, some events are out of your hands), you may feel alien to your new circumstances. Don’t worry, you’ll grow into them. Soon you’ll be more than surviving, you’ll be thriving!

BODACIOUS CAREER BUILDER #7: Be honest about how you handle change in your career and life; make a commitment to thrive, not just survive.

How To Choose an IT Consultant

Many small to medium business rely heavily on IT systems to successfully run their business.

If you find yourself spending more and more time managing your network and computers but you don’t need a full time IT person on staff then perhaps now is the time you should consider hiring an IT consultant.

When you start looking for an IT consultant you should consider the following:

Experience. It goes without saying that you need to hire a consultant who has experience in the IT industry.

You should ask the consultant the following questions:

1. Has the IT consultant got experience supporting the same type of business as yours?
2. Do they have any technicians on staff that holds valuable industry certifications, such as Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) etc? In order to become certified by Microsoft, a Certified Microsoft Partner must prove their expertise in Microsoft technology and in specific business areas, such as financial management and supply chain management.
3. If you operate Windows Small Business Server onsite does the consulting company have a member of staff who is a Microsoft Small Business Specialist?

References. Ask the following questions to the consulting companies other clients:

1. How well does the company work for them?
2. Ask whether work is done on time and on budget?
3. Also ask whether the consultant responds quickly to problems.

Services. You need to ask the consulting company the following questions:

1. What services does the consulting company provide? If they don’t supply a particular service will they be able to recommend a professional organization that can?
2. What levels of support do they offer?
3. Do they offer offsite support solutions or do they perform all work onsite?
4. Do they offer preventative maintenance plans?
5. What does the preventative maintenance plans involve?
6. How many hours per month are included in the preventative plans?

Schedules and fees. Find out the answers to the following questions:

1. What is their response time?
2. Are you charged a call out fee?
3. Is their a minimum invoice amount?
4. Do they assure a No Fix No Fee policy?
5. What are their business hours?
6. What happens if you call out of hours?

Personality. It is important that a consultant be a technology expert, but it is also important that they be able to work with and talk to people who are not technology experts.

Final Words. Interview a number of potential consultants. Look for the information listed above. This is not a time to just go with the lowest bid: you want the best for the job. After all, isn’t that why you hire a consultant?

Spyware - The Main Hurdle Of An Efficient System.

Do not misunderstand when you read that Spyware is not malicious software. The name itself explains the motives of the program. Remove any trace of Spyware by running anti-Spyware on your system regularly. These include free Spyware Adware removal tools such as Microsoft free Spyware Adware removal utility and Yahoo Spyware removal tools.

Spyware is the main hurdle of any efficient system. Just as any other virus that may infect your system there are any number of sites that promote some product or service on the Internet and may have let loose a few Spyware programs that covertly download themselves onto your PC. Then they begin to operate in the background of the operating system unknown to the operator that this Spyware is observing every entry made through the keyboard and pointing device.

Such Spyware take up a lot of the processor time by overriding the IRQ settings of the peripheral devices and ‘hijacking’ the system in order to buy time to operate. This Spyware can be removed with the help of anti Spyware programs and safeguard the system from inadvertently giving out personal data. The entries in the registry can be removed with the help of the many free Spyware Adware removal tools such as Microsoft free Spyware Adware removal utility and Yahoo Spyware removal tools.

Why The Registry Slows Down A System

As the registry gets older with constant use, it gets updated every time there is a change in the system. This change may be some program that has been added to or removed from the system or some hardware that has been added or removed. The registry updates its records with the change. However, not all the registry entries may be deleted when a program or hardware device is uninstalled. So, when a program requests the registry for some information the registry starts searching from the beginning of the database. It will go through all the entries one by one.

This will include all the redundant entries, which may be tens of thousands in number

A Pickle of a Tradition - Christmas

As legend has it, in Germany parents decorate their Tannenbaums on Christmas Eve. The last ornament hung is die Weinachtsgurke-a delicate glass ornament in the shape of a pickle. This is a significant ornament, for the next morning the children will rush in to open their gifts from St. Nicholas. But the festivities can not begin until one of the children locates the elusive gherkin. The one who finds it gets to open the first gift, and may even receive an extra treat for his or her effort. So the story is told here in America. Glass Christmas Pickles are a popular ornament, and usually come with the curious legend tucked or printed on the box.

The oddest part about this legend is that it is virtually unknown in Germany. Nobody knows where it came from, or who started it. Well known is the fact that the decorating of Christmas Trees with lights, ornaments, and tinsel originated in Germany, but unless the Pickle Tradition was practiced in a remote region of the fatherland, it is likely that the legend was created at least in part by Americans, perhaps of German descent. There are several stories floating around about how the tradition may have started.

One rumor tells of a Bavarian-born Union soldier fighting in the Civil War named John Lower (or perhaps Hans Lauer) who was captured and sent to prison in Georgia. In poor health and starving, the prisoner begged for just one pickle before he died. A merciful guard took pity and found him a pickle. Miraculously, John lived, and after he returned home he began the tradition of the Christmas Pickle, promising good fortune to the one who found the special ornament on Christmas Day.

If this story seems a bit stretched, there is a second story being perpetuated in Berrien Springs, Michigan, where 24% of the population report German ancestry. Residents claim that hundreds of years ago two young Spanish boys, when traveling home from boarding school one Christmas Eve, sought refuge for the night at an inn. Here they encountered a cantankerous inn-keeper who trapped them in a pickle barrel. When St. Nicholas stopped at the inn that evening he sensed their distress and tapped the barrel with his staff, magically freeing them. Whether this story is true or not, Berrien Springs calls itself The Christmas Pickle Capital of the World.

The first ornaments used by Germans to decorate Christmas Trees were fruits, particularly apples, and nuts. These, along with the evergreen tree itself, represented the certainty that life would return in the spring. In the mid-eighteen hundreds, a few enterprising individuals living in the village of Lauscha (in the present-day state of Thuringen) began selling glass ornaments. Using fruit and nut molds at first, they eventually branched out, adding thousands of molds to their repertoire: angels, bells, saints, hearts, stars, and so on. Still, there is no evidence of their having made a pickle, or of the pickle tradition ever being practiced in Lauscha or any other German village.

Wherever the legend came from, the Christmas Pickle Tradition is here to stay. Several German glass ornament makers have capitalized on the story and offer a variety of gherkins, dills and cucumbers (some even donning cheery Santa caps!), perpetuating the myth even as their German neighbors vehemently deny having ever heard of it. Whatever the origin, the tradition is sure to bring a hearty dose of Christmas cheer. And isn’t that the point?

Shih Tzu - Types Of Dog Shows

There are two types of dog shows licensed by the American Kennel Club. One is the all-breed show. The all-breed show includes classes for all the recognized breeds, and groups of breeds such as all terriers, all toys. The second dog show is the specialty show for one particular breed that also offers championship points.

A benched show is one where the dog show superintendent supplies benches (cages for toy dogs). Each bench is numbered and its corresponding number appears on your entry slip that is sent to you prior to the show. When you enter the show, take your Shih Tzu to the bench. Your Shih Tzu should remain on the bench until it is time to groom him before entering the ring to be judged. After judging, your Shih Tzu must return to the bench until the show is dismissed.

At an unbenched show the club makes no provision for your Shih Tzu other than an enormous tent if outdoors or an area in a show hall where all crates and grooming equipment must be kept if the show is inside.

When you enter the show grounds, whether it is a benched or unbenched show, you are expected to keep your Shih Tzu under complete control. You should use a short lead in crowded aisles or getting out of cars. At a bench show, a “bench chain” is needed. A bench chain should allow your Shih Tzu to move around, but not off the bench.

There is always at least one professional photographer who will take your Shih Tzu’s picture along with the judge and whatever is won, the ribbons, etc. These photos make excellent advertisements in the various dog magazines.

Some shows also offer Obedience Trials. Obedience Trials are always considered a separate event. There are three obedience titles. First, the Companion Dog or C.D. title; second, the Companion Dog Excellent or C.D.X.; and third, the Utility Dog or U.D. You can receive detailed information in a booklet entitled Official Obedience Regulations from the American Kennel Club.

Make Money Making Movies…

We are not going to kid you. Making money making movies is hard work and it doesn’t come easy. This is the real deal: if you want to make a living from movies if not to be rich, you have to think business. Think about what the audience wants to see. It is NOT about what you want. This website provides a bunch of helpful articles to help you on your way of becoming a successful moviemaker.

Most feature films are produced either by the major Hollywood studios or by hundreds of U.S. and foreign independent production companies. The independents range from major companies just below the rank of the well-financed, all-purpose studios, to medium and small continuing companies, to firms that go bankrupt after just one production.

Since the introduction of DV technology, the means of production have become more independent; called independent filmmaking. Filmmakers can conceivably shoot and edit a movie, create and edit the sound and music, and mix the final cut on a home computer. However, while the means of production may be independent, financing, distribution, and marketing remain difficult to accomplish outside the traditional system.

Most independent filmmakers rely on film festivals to get their films noticed and sold for distribution. However, the Internet has allowed for relatively inexpensive distribution of independent films; many filmmakers post their films online for critique and recognition. Although there is little profitability in this, a filmmaker can still gain exposure via the web.

The filmmaking production cycle consists of five main stages: 1-Development, 2- Preproduction, 3-Production, 4-Post-production, 5-Distribution.

Technologies such as DVD, FireWire connections and professional-level non-linear editing system software make movie making relatively inexpensive.

Popular software (including commercial, consumer level and open source) includes: Avid Xpress Pro, Cinelerra, Kino, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express, iMovie, Sony Vegas,

Popular digital camcorders, mostly semi-professional equipment with 3-CCD technology, include: Canon, GL2 XL-1s, XL-2, Panasonic AG-DVX100/AG-DVX100A/AG-DVX100B , Panasonic AG-HVX200, Sony VX-1000/2000/2100, Sony PD-150/170. Most of these camcorders cost between US$2,000 - $5,000 in 2003, with costs continuing to decline as features are added, and models depreciate.

Additionally, open source software holds the potential for increasing high-level editing capabilities being available for also increasingly lower prices, both free and paid software. School Fund Raising Idea - Custom Gift Wrap

Some of the best fund raising ideas for schools are those which involve the pupils in some kind of creative activity. I’ll bet if you asked most young children what they enjoy most at school the answers would include drawing or painting. Combining the talents of our children with parents and grandparents willingness to spend money is a winning combination.

And how do you get all that creativity on to something that displays our children’s artistic skills to as wide an audience as possible? You print it on gift wrapping paper. Possibilities for themes are endless, but parent’s pockets aren’t, so selling the gift wrap at a couple of events a year should be just right. The most obvious are the Summer Fete or Fair and at Christmas.

Get the children to create their works of art on A4 paper sheets. They can be on white paper, or for an interesting effect spread a few different coloured papers among the pupils. A standard sheet of Gift Wrap is 500mm x 700mm or similar. When the children’s illustrations are reduced down in size, you can fit any number from about 72 up to 288 images on to a sheet. It depends on the effect you want to achieve. The white background tends to work better with the lower numbers and the multi-coloured papers with higher numbers. Duplicate images as desired or necessary to make up the numbers.

The children’s images are scanned and montaged using design software and printing should be carried out by a printing company. How much of the work of creating the gift wrap is carried out by the school will depend on the school’s own capabilities. However, it is recommended that the assembly of images and final printing is carried out by professionals. The minimum quantity for printing gift wrap of this kind is 1000 sheets. The profit on this amount should be at least 100% after printing costs are taken out. For larger quantities, the amount raised by the school would be even higher.

At Christmas time, an additional fund raiser is to have greetings cards printed with images from the gift wrap. The advantage with these fund raising projects is that they can be repeated annually with different sets of children taking part. As well as the money raised, the expressions on the children’s faces when they see their work in print is priceless.
