U. S. senior citizens, noting President Bush’s new budget, which calls for billions to be spent in Iraq while billions are cut from Medicare, are foregoing traditional retirement destinations like Florida and Arizona and opting for Iraq.

The numbers reflect a convincing coincidence. Bush’s budget calls for $100 billion more for Iraq and $100 billion in cuts for Medicare.

Following up on the new retirement trend, we went to Kennedy Airport and caught up with some seniors who were booked for Baghdad.

“Excuse me,” I asked a group of seniors who just stepped off the bus in front of Saudi Arabian Airlines. “I understand you’re all heading for Iraq?”

“That’s right,” a man in Bermuda shorts replied, and reached into his golf bag. He took out a chapeau in the usual mullah fashion. “Got my black turban right here. You know what they say? When in Baghdad, do as the Iraqis do.”

“And I have my black burkah,” his wife added, lifting it from her purse. She slipped it over her head and modeled it. “What do you think?”

“Very cute,” I replied. “You’ll fit right in. Can you please clarify why you’ve chosen to retire in Iraq instead of, say, Miami?”

“Simple, son,” a man with a fishing rod, who happened to be wearing a baseball cap on top of his turban, said, “That’s where the Medicare money is.”

“Not to mention social security,” his wife commented.

“The plain fact is, we’d rather eat in Iraq than starve in America,” another man added.

“But aren’t you concerned about safety issues?” I asked.

“Of course, we are,” the man in the Bermudas replied. “But we’re in this for the long term and, the way things are going, we can hardly count on Medicare and social security in America.”

“We’ve got to follow the food,” another elderly gentleman stated.

“But you could get blown up?” I suggested.

“Oh, we thought about that,” the man with the baseball hat on top of his turban replied. “We’ll just have to take our chances.”

“Never underestimate the power of a senior citizen,” a frail man said, raising his fist. “Didn’t you read about the 70-year-old fella who broke the neck of the kid who tried to rob a busload of seniors?”

“Yes, I did notice that event,” I told him.

“He was a war vet,” one of the women informed me, with evident pride.

“Yep, of one American war or another,” a senior volunteered with a sigh. “Quite a few to choose from.”

“How about suicide bombers?” I dared to ask.

“Bring ‘em on, son,” the frail senior said, assuming the position of a boxer with his dukes up.

“But aren’t you forgetting that most of the money earmarked for Iraq is for military activity?” I asked.

“We’re going for the rebuilding money,” the man in the Bermudas said. “They’re wasting billions. And we figure we can get in the way of some of it.”

“And what do you think is going to happen when Americans see millions of seniors, retired in Iraq? They can’t just let us starve there, can they?”

“Congress will have to divvy up something for us, and that’s more than they’re likely to do if we stay in America.”

“And something is better than nothing,” a woman affirmed.

“But what about the culture gap?” I asked. “Aren’t you a little set in your ways?”

“Yes, we are,” one of the men admitted.

“I notice the turbans. Do you plan on becoming Muslim?”

“Whatever it takes to get in the way of some money,” the man insisted.

“We’ve thought about it,” his wife interjected. “And becoming Islamic is better than not being able to afford medical care.”

“Or starving on what’s left of social security,” another woman added.

“Do you think you’ll be able to enjoy the usual retirement activities there, like golf and fishing?” I asked.

“No problem,” the man with the golf bag said. “Iraq may not have the best golf courses, but I see there’s plenty of desert for sand traps.”

“I’ve noticed a river runs through Baghdad,” the man with the fishing rod said. “Got to be something in it besides body parts.”

“How about you?” I asked a woman with a tennis racquet.

“I haven’t seen any tennis courts there,” she admitted, “but some of the sand should be hard enough for the ball to bounce.”

“What about a net?” I asked.

“I guess there’ll be some sacrifices,” she replied, and looked around at the crowd. “But I know one thing. I won’t have far to look for someone to play with.”

“I brought my racket,” another woman called.

“And, if worse comes to worse,” her husband advised her, “you can teach an Iraqi how to play.”

“Excuse us, son,” one of the men said. “We have to move along now. Can’t miss our flight.”

“We’re bound for Baghdad!” his wife almost sang.

“OK,” I replied. “Thanks for the interview. And enjoy your retirement.”

Running a website is not an easy job; it takes some effort to make money online. There must be hundreds of millions of webpages out there struggling to be noticed by search engines and by their target audiences. If you are a website publisher who’s eager to get your brand or service in front of the right readers, it would take more than just a good logo or business concept to get them flocking to and trusting your site. To grab people’s attention and increase website traffic, you must provide something extra, something unique, something they may not find elsewhere. But the problem is, you may have so much on your plate as it is that you can’t possibly provide grade-A content 100% of the time. Even great webmasters and website publishers need a little help sometimes.

If you think about it, no amount of black hat SEO or link wizardry will get you the long-term results you are really shooting for. High-quality content is what your target customers want. Skillful linkbuilding may build a lot of short- to mid-term traffic but classic content lasts a long long time. To make serious money online, you have to give your clients this content. Many website owners invest their time and money in web design and online promotions without even considering the importance of original content. Do you really want to look just like your direct competitor — providing a mirror-image of their services to your readers and potential clients? High-quality content, as opposed to knock-off imitations and readily available templates, is crucial to a website’s success. What you need are highly capable content producers who will drive qualified traffic to your website and give it some distinction. This is what competent and effective website copywriters are all about — producing quality content for your website and help you make money online.

But before you hire, you must ask yourself what exactly you are looking for in a website copywriter. The following guidelines will certainly help you pick the best website copywriter to help you increase your online profits:

1. Can they produce quantity as well as quality?

This is extremely important; high quality content is imperative, and so is quantity. A constant and steady amount of high-quality material is an essential ingredient for a successful online business. A website copywriter has to be able to deliver both quantity and quality to make you money. With this in mind, you must ask them for a guaranteed daily quota. You would want a lot of work done in a short span of time, but you can’t possibly expect high quality with that mindset. When you ask for too high a quota you will probably be sacrificing quality. Somewhere around 2000 words a day is average.

2. Will they be able to produce original content?

There are a lot of ways to ensure that your content is purely original. Ask the website copywriter for a guarantee that all written materials will be checked explicitly for duplicate content. To avoid plagiarism and other copyright issues, they must run their work through originality checkers such as webmasterlabor.com/tools/checker http://webmasterlabor.com/tools/checker and copyscape.com http://copyscape.com , or other reliable duplicate content checkers available to them. Your content plays a very important role in search engine optimization. Passing off content that you can easily find in thousands of other sites won’t help your PageRank or traffic at all. Original high-quality content is indeed the best way to optimize search engine results — and a website copywriter producing original material makes it all happen.

3. Does the website copywriter have a back-up?

When you retain the services of a ghost writer for a long period of time (to produce blocks of content, for example), you must make sure that there are contingencies in place — just in case they become unavailable all of a sudden. Having a back-up will ensure your deliverables. Moreover, you have to ask if the back-up is just as, if not more, capable than the original writer. You wouldn’t want your content quality to nosedive whenever your leased writer is temporarily unavailable. Using a copywriting company, as opposed to a single freelancer, is your best choice if delivery and quality consistency are important to you.

4. Does the website copywriter have an editor?

Some website copywriters for hire could very well be their own editors. But wouldn’t it be better if they had someone to help them with errors they could overlook themselves? Editors play a key role in this process because they make sure that the writer’s work is delivered on time, every time. They check for grammatical errors, inconsistencies in flow, compliance with your instructions, and overall quality of the writer’s work. Also, they function as project managers; they inform the writer of the topical and stylistic guidelines that the client requires.

5. Do they follow a quality-assurance process?

How can you be sure that you are getting materials that live up to your own standards? Would it cost you extra to send some back to the writer for revisions? Website copywriters should follow protocol as far as quality-assurance is concerned. First, they must submit a block sample of their work to the client. Second, they make necessary revisions after receiving client feedback. This process continues until the client gets what they want. Meanwhile, the website copywriter shoulders all costs incurred during these revisions. Quality-assurance like this will only guarantee the best results in output and client satisfaction.

6. Will the writer surrender full rights of the materials produced to the client?

All materials produced by a website copywriter must be on a purely work-for-hire basis. Ideally, the client assumes all rights to the materials obtained from the writers during the length of their employment or contract. Under the work-for-hire system, copyright ownership falls on the client and not the writer.

7. Can you, as the client, set the tone or style for the articles?

You can, as the hiring party, ask the website copywriter to follow certain parameters — specifying demographics, for instance. As the client, you must also welcome the writer’s preferences in tone and style for the job. To be able to work efficiently, you must allow them to make any suggestion that they think would cater to your audience better.

8. Will they accommodate your format requirements?

Ask for an OS platform-neutral delivery format so your text can be published correctly. These are usually in the form of .txt or .html files.

Website copywriters who offer these services and more will promote a business relationship that is result-oriented, stable, and consistent. With the best copywriter working for you, you can sit back, relax, and leave the arduous content work to them for a change.

Everyone has experienced at some time or another difficulty in falling asleep. Sometimes it is for one night or can be an ongoing problem. Tossing and turning all night isn’t anything new to most people occasionally but none the less it is a terrible feeling when you just start to fall asleep and it’s time to wake up. It can seem like a very long day with no rest behind you. Good sleep habits are known to be healthy for you in the long run.

Insomnia has varied causes and one of them can be your eating habits. The food you eat does play a part in how your body prepares itself to sleep. Different foods will cause different reactions in your body.

A good way to help you understand how foods play a part in insomnia is to write a journal. All you need to do is write down everything that you eat during your day and the times that you are eating it. Also write down how you slept, was it a sound, peaceful sleep? Was it a restless night? Include the length of time you slept also and then you will see a pattern forming from your daily intake of food and the quality and amount of the sleep that you had. This will guide you into being able to avoid certain foods that don’t agree with your sleep pattern and include more of the foods that seem to produce better results for you.

Everyone is different but there does seem to be some foods that are universally known to help induce and promote good sleep quality. This list can help you identify some of these but keep in mind that your body chemistry is unique, only research will help you find the best diet for you.

Milk really does help you sleep. So that old saying about a glass of warm milk before bed is definitely true, milk does have a chemical in it that helps you sleep.

Fruits seem to have a way to help promote a sound sleep. Lemons seem to be the most effective fruit.

Breads, preferably whole grain breads seem to have the most positive effect. But all bread products including, bagels and muffins are included.

As stated before every individual has a different body chemistry and finding what works for you may take some trial and error. Sometimes the natural sugar in foods will cause some people to toss and turn but in others it may not have that same effect. Of course we all know that consuming caffeine or processed sugars late in the day are not very good choices for promoting a good night sleep. Keeping a journal will help you identify what works for your body chemistry, what may help you get a good restful sleep and what to avoid.

Controlling your insomnia with a good diet is the healthiest and most natural way to a better nights sleep.

In case you haven’t heard, there is a brash new movement afoot to make America a nonaligned nation. The principal motivation behind the movement is worldwide ingratitude for the sacrifices America has made for the benefit of other nations, while getting back precious little in return, materially or even in simple gratitude.

Certainly, the group maintains, the payback in either form has hardly been commensurate with the sacrifices America has made in life and treasure. The members cite, for example, the summit of nonaligned nations in Cuba, where the attendees, who Jimmy Cagney might have called “you dirty, double-crossin’ rats,” delighted to blow Cuban cigar smoke at the U. S.

Raul Castro, the distinguished and penniless stand-in for his equally distinguished and penniless older brother, evoked the enthusiastic applause characteristic of a pent-up need for self-justification when he said that the world today is shaped by the United States’ irrational pretensions for world dominance…. When there no longer is a Cold War, the United States spends one billion dollars a year in weapons and soldiers and it squanders a similar amount in commercial publicity. To think that a social and economic order that has proven unsustainable could be maintained by force is simply an absurd idea.

Responding to the comment, a leader of the movement to make America a nonaligned nation, said, “OK, Raul, we heard you. So come on. Launch another boatload of refugees to bring us to our knees.”

The new movement, which traces its origins back to the will of the founding founders, who proclaimed that America should avoid permanent foreign entanglements, is preparing a new flag, much like the familiar Colonial rallying cry in cloth: Don’t Tread On Me. It is being sewn by a gifted seamstress in New England, named Victoria Albatross. The flag will highlight the sentiment of the movement, “Suckered In Never Again!”

The powers that divide Washington, stung by America’s series of military missteps abroad, have already begun to express private support for the innovative return of America to the sentiments of its founders and the entirely radical idea that its citizens actually may have a right to life, liberty, and [of all things] the pursuit of happiness, instead of the wearisome and thankless burdens of trying to conduct the world in its own image.

Even George Bush, caught in an off-handed moment as he returned from a bike ride in Crawford, Texas, said, “I’m usually not a fan of movements, unless it’s a movement to elect me or some other Republican, regardless of how big a jackass he is. But, given the extent to which I’ve been suckered in in Iraq, this movement has a lot of appeal.”

“Why, George?” his wife inquired, when he lightly poked her with his elbow.

“I’m glad you asked that, Laura,” he told her. Then, sounding every bit like a born-again American, he admitted, “I know my job is to protect Americans. I used to think that means kicking butt militarily. Now, I think it’s to kick butt economically, especially before Detroit goes completely out of business and China opens up factories in every nonaligned nation before we get around to it. So I’ve asked my speechwriters to help me make the transition. I want to tell every nation, ally or not, and especially the ingrates at that Fidel fest in Cuba, look here: you want us to help your nation do better, what are you willing to ante up? We accept two kinds of payment: money from the rich and loyalty from the poor.”

In an unusual sign of political amity, Ted Kennedy took off a moment from his usual disgruntled bluster over one ineffectual Democratic advocacy or another, and said, “As you know, I came from a wealthy family, so I’m aware that economic success comes with a lot of perks. Right now, we’re squandering our resources, while other countries are eating our lunch. Before it’s lights out in America, because we can’t pay the electric bill anymore, we need to concentrate on the only thing that can make the country successful enough to take care of its own poor, not to mention its potholes, and that’s worldwide economic leadership.”

Dick Cheney, interviewed at an undisclosed location while cleaning his quail gun, said, “I’ve been in Washington so long I almost forgot what it’s like to be a good businessman. This movement made me think, hey, I’m the kind of guy who can get this right, because what is really called for is the biz savvy to conduct America, Inc. Now that I caught on, I may even consider running for president in ‘08, providing, of course, my stent holds out.”

A well-know professor of geopolitics, Fred Fulbright, who is often tapped by the White House for disagreeable opinions, noted, “I’m glad the door to what has been the dismally dark room of official American political thought has at least opened a crack. People in Washington are beginning to see, even in the sliver of light that’s finally illuminating their vision, that most nations want economic success, even those cigar-huffing dissenters in Cuba - and economic success is just what America is equipped to help them enjoy. Forget military empire. We have nothing less than the opportunity to be history’s first economic empire. The prospects are, I think, inspiring.”

A variety of CEO’s have also stepped forward to endorse the movement. Steve Jobs stated, “It’s about time we started to operate this country on principles that are far more likely to win us a world of genuine allies and, yes, even some of that elusive sentiment called gratitude. What we’ve been doing is called taking your eye off the ball or not minding the store. I can tell you that nothing makes people more grateful than helping them have a chicken in every pot and an iPod in every ear.”

Arts groups, immediately going past the advantages of switching from being just another military empire to a uniquely successful economic empire, were more wary, with the head of The National Endowment, saying, “A country that concentrates on economic success has to ask itself a question. What does it want to see when it confronts its own soul - economic barbarism or cultural excellence? That’s my way of saying, as part of all the success, I could use a budget.”

The movement, encouraged by the widespread early show of support, hopes to ask for a national referendum on the issue, even though its members are confident Gallup, Pew, and Zogby will announce the results several times before the actual election confirms their projection.

Tom Attea, humorist and creator of NewsLaugh.com http://NewsLaugh.com , has had six shows produced Off-Broadway. Critics have called his writing delightfully funny, witty, with great humor and ebullience and good, genuine laughs.

Here’s something you need to understand: even though you may be feeling healthy, it may not be an accurate measure of your actual health. Why? Because there are a number of conditions which remain silent until the disease is finally diagnosed. This is why it’s essential for every individual to receive regular health screenings. Early detection can help minimize many illnesses.

Health screening guidelines differ according to age, gender, race and environment. In this article, we’re going to offer a brief overview of the various health screening processes that should be considered throughout a person’s life.

Screening Starts Even Before Birth

Anatomical and physiological problems can be detected during prenatal check-ups such as regular ultra sounds. Not only is your baby’s growth monitored, doctors can also uncover serious conditions such as hydrocephaly, spina bifida and other congenital anomalies. If there are any indicators that your baby’s health is danger, more invasive tests can assess the degree of the danger.

After Birth

After birth, every newborn undergoes a variety of health screening exams. Usually these tests are performed between day two to day seven of life and involve the drawing of a few drops of blood from each newborn. The focus is primarily on genetic diseases such as phenylketonuria or sickle cell anemia which can become life threatening if left undetected. Children with such conditions are often required to adhere to strict diet and immunization guidelines. Therefore, parents need to be educated about the illness right from the beginning.

Through Childhood

The importance of health screening continues through childhood. If corrected in childhood, some problems can be nipped in the bud, allowing your child to live a safe and healthy life. Vision and hearing tests are prime examples of such conditions. If your child has a slow response to noise or you notice a squint, a specialist opinion is essential to learn more about the condition.

Lead poisoning has become so rampant in society, that children with any exposure should be evaluated as soon as possible to prevent the irreversible consequences of a heavy lead load in blood. Exposure usually comes from being in or around any old house where lead paint was used and is now chipping or peeling.

As the child grows, the dangers he or she faces change over time. Overall health includes mental as well as physical health, so screening is also recommended for children showing initial signs of mental disorders, eating disorders, abuse, etc.

Other common health screenings for children: blood pressure checks, regular vision and hearing checks, cholesterol test (especially if there’s a parent with high cholesterol or a parent or grandparent with early heart disease), dental check-ups, anemia test, and a tuberculosis skin test (especially if a child has come in contact with a person who has TB).

Throughout Adulthood

For women, there are a variety of health screening tests that help ensure your health is on the right track. For instance, a thyroid test should first be taken at age 35. Your blood pressure should be checked regularly, no less than every two years. Your first diabetes blood test (assuming you’ve demonstrated no previous signs of diabetes) should be undertaken at age 45. Mammograms every one to two years. A Pap test and pelvic exam every one to three years. Vision tests every two to four years, hearing every ten years. Regular cervical screening is recommended for older women (yes, even if you’ve cleared menopause or have had a hysterectomy. Dental exams once or twice a year. Tetanus-Diphtheria booster, every ten years.

For men, a regular routine examination should be undertaken every three to five years. Your blood pressure should be checked regularly, no less than every two years. Cholesterol every five years. Diabetes every three years if you’re at high risk. Prostate exams generally begin around the age of fifty and many physicians recommend annual exams after that. A colonoscopy is recommended for every ten years beginning at the age of fifty, a sigmoidoscopy every five years. Tetanus-Diphtheria booster, every ten years.

Preventive health care relies heavily on regular physical exams and health screening tests. Early detection and treatment of common diseases can often prevent further complications and help you get back on a healthy track. As with any form of medical treatment, always consult your doctor first.

Antispyware programs and adware removal tools can detect and remove spyware ranging from browser parasites, data miners, to malware, adware, software you didn’t ask for, homepage hijackers, Trojan horses to dialers, and also provide prevention measures.

The one way to get a severe headache is to have your computer infested with spyware and adware. But if you understand what spyware means and take the necessary steps to detect, remove and prevent it you can be free from this headache before it turns chronic.

Spyware can imply many things - it could be browser parasites, data miners, malware, adware, software you didn’t ask for, homepage hijackers, Trojan horses, dialers etc. These thieves usually hit Microsoft Windows applications and Internet Explorer, since most people use them, leading to a system crash or some really strange behavior.

But how did spyware get into your system in the first place? If you visited a website or looked at an html email message or if you clicked a pop up window, you are ‘it’. Your action would have automatically triggered off the download and installation of the spyware into your computer without your knowledge. Something you clicked would have been conveyed as ‘I do’ to the spyware vendor. After all, it cheats. This way of misleading you into getting that tracking software called spyware installed in your computer is referred to as a drive-by download. It is one of the commonest ways of tricking pc users to accept spyware if they do not have real-time antispyware protection installed.

Arresting The Damage With Antispyware

That spyware which sneaked into your computer can alter your browser and security settings. Some adware vendors just collect your browsing information so that they can bombard you with their product ads. Adware spyware usually tracks your Internet browsing actions in the machine where they install themselves. They then have a way of conveying the information they collect back to the people who installed the adware so they can use it for commercial gain. They use it themselves, or sell it to others. These people in turn assume what your interests are through the information they collect and display a barrage of ads through the computer where they install their adware.

Spyware vendors pay software vendors to bundle in their spyware software so that they can get into users system. Some spyware vendors get into your system through the low security settings in your Internet browser. For each spyware installation they mark it with a tracking number so that they can trace your information, helping them to update their database on an ongoing basis.

Antispyware has become an essential part of a computer just like antivirus software. The adware that installs itself in our systems without our approval usually come up as popup windows or sleazy banner advertisements integrated into some totally irrelevant program. Antispyware programs and adware removal tools can detect, remove and also provide prevention measures.

We already know that debt consolidation loan is solution for the person burdened with numerous debts. However, what if the person already is tagged with bad credit? For them, the solution for their debt problem lies in bad credit debt consolidation loan.

Bad credit debt consolidation loan works in the same manner as an initial debt consolidation loan do. The only difference is that the former carries comparatively high rate of interest but once the person is able to build trust in the eye of lender then he can also avail initial debt consolidation loan on competitive rate of interest.

Bad credit debt consolidation loan enable the person to pay all his debts through a single payment to the lender. And, the lender further makes the payment to the creditors on behalf of the person. Lender also negotiates with the creditor in order to reduce the debt payment and this reduction lies in the interest rates or any other penalties (if any).

Debt consolidation loan carries low rate of interest as compared to the interest rate paid on other debts. This results in saving a sum of money which can be further utilized in fulfilling other desires.

It can be used to consolidate all the debts of the person either its business debts, personal debts, or credit card debts etc.

Like other loans in the financial market, bad credit debt consolidation loan is of two types:

•Secured bad credit debt consolidation loan

•Unsecured bad credit debt consolidation loan

In secured form, the lender asks the borrower to place the collateral against the loan amount. This also helps the borrower to procure large amount and on competitive rates. On the other side, in unsecured form there is no need to place collateral but the amount which the borrower can procure is comparatively small and with high rates.

Usually, in unsecured bad credit debt consolidation loan the lender generally ask the borrower to furnish certain details such as identity proof, flow of income and lastly a proof that he can easily meet all the repayments.

The borrower must make sure the lender is authorized and reputable. As sometimes, it is seen that they misguide people in order to make their personal profit. The borrower is always recommended not to accept any offer without comparing it with other offers being made.

Eventually, it is absolutely right to say that bad credit debt consolidation loan not only simplifies the payment structure of debt but also provides a chance to improve the credit score if timely payments are made.

Olivia Maaret loans have recently began to play a strong part in deciding the financial future of general population. Olivia maaret can help you find the best loan at best interest rates.

Microsoft Great Plains ERP implementation as general trend in MRP system is becoming the subject for tighter integration with other corporate computer systems: CRM, Custom Databases, Point of Sales, etc. Let’s take a look at typical Project Accounting module integration scenarios. We will follow GP architecture guidelines and will be feeding in so-called Master records: Contracts, Projects, Customers, Employees and so-called work transaction tables: Timesheets, Employee Expenses. We discourage you to insert records into so-called Open and Historical tables, as GP posting logic is complicated and it depends heavily on the GP settings: Customer Classes, Posting Accounts, PA Module Settings to name a few.

• Timesheets. This is the most popular table for integration. Let’s assume that you are placement agency and you have your customer contracts and projects in Great Plains Project Accounting - but they originate in your industry CRM system, where you track your temps skills, certifications, experience, working records as well as your customers with their placement requests. GP Project Accounting is integrated directly with your GL and you have Project budgeting, cost categories, billing schedules in it as well - this allows you to bill your customers in PA Billing. Timesheets in the entry point in Project Accounting and you feed timesheet records from your CRM

• Contracts & Projects. These master records are in the following tables: PA01101 and PA01201. Consider feeding records into these tables, as you may have new projects in your CRM since the last integration run. Please, also check Contract/Project related tables - Billing schedules, Project Account Segments, Segments Overrides.

• Integration Technology. You should use SQL stored procedures to insert records into Projects, Contracts, Timesheets, Employee Expenses tables. GP Integration Managers capabilities are limited, you should check the IM options for your GP version: 6.0, 7.5, 8.0, 9.0 or 10.0

• Microsoft Dexterity Posting Server. Alba Spectrum offers Autoposting server, utilizing GP Dexterity source code engine to post automatically GP batches.

Having been managing investment portfolios and accounts for the past decade both professionally and personally, me, like an army of other portfolio managers out there, are not only looking for the perfect trading system, but also the perfect way to manage an investment account.

Indeed, there are whole bombardments of theories of risk management and portfolio management out there that it is mind boggling. There are risk management concepts that attempt to govern each investment trade and position sizing based on complex probability calculations and there are even concepts that were born in Las Vegas, claiming what high stake poker gamblers do. The problem with these concepts is that they are mainly mathematical concepts that took the human factor out of the game completely.

Let’s face it, if you have ever managed a portfolio or an investment account, you will know that it is never as simple or left to chance as a game of poker and it is never as mechanical and emotionless as the mathematical calculations claim.

After a decade of thinking along these lines, I realized that these portfolio management concepts are important but there must be something on top of these that must govern the mind that executes these concepts. This “Meta Program” must be the “Operating System” in the mind of the portfolio manager and rule the way the portfolio manager or trader looks at a portfolio or investment account. With such a “Meta Program” in mind, the portfolio manager will be able assess changes in a portfolio or investment account in the right light and to behave in ways that are appropriate to the prevailing situation.

Here I present my personal “Meta Program” called the Portfolio Management Art of War.

Every Investor, Trader, Fund Manager or Portfolio Manager is an Emperor or King of his or her own trading Empire. Your Empire exists in a world that is engulfed and consumed in an eternal warfare. This world is called the Exchange (stock, forex, commodity or whatever exchange you are involved in.).

The boundaries and resources of your Empire are defined by the size of your Fund. Some Kings have bigger territories and some have smaller ones but all are driven by the common need to survive in the Exchange by expanding their territories and boundaries.

As a King, your mandate in the Exchange is to find ways and means to expand your Empire over time. If that cannot be done, you will soon find that you might not be the King of this Empire for very long.

In order to expand one’s territory, one must lead one’s Empire into war against the rest of the Exchange. Some Kings are more aggressive and some, more conservative. Regardless of level of aggression, every King’s resources must be committed in various ways into battle against the Exchange. Every winning battle expands the King’s territory and every losing battle loses part of the Empire and the boundaries shrinks. Some King has a target boundary size but know that as long as you remain a King, you will one day be drawn into battle against the Exchange again. The war in the Exchange is eternal.

In order to battle in the Exchange, every King must have a Strategy. Some splits one’s army up into many squads which fights independently and some engages in a total war against the Exchange with the whole Empire leaving only very little backup. Some organizes one’s army into many functional squads, with some squads fighting more aggressively and some squads fighting more conservatively. This Strategy is called the Portfolio Management System that the King chooses to adopt. Each squad then fights using specific Tactics called Trading Systems.

How a King chooses his Strategy and Tactic depends largely on the part of the Exchange that a King chooses to fight in. Every part of the Exchange (Forex or commodity or equity etc..) has its own unique characteristics and rules of engagement which the King must be thoroughly familiar with.

Every time a King sends forward a squad to do battle in the Exchange by drawing upon his Empire and placing a position in the Exchange, it must always be held in mind that there is no guarantee that you will ever see that brave general that was being sent forth again. If the squad loses, you lose a part of your Empire to the Exchange. Therefore you must take very frequent look at the overall map of your Empire (which should always be pinned up prominently in your war room.) and monitor how far back the Exchange has taken your Empire before thinking about and making your next move. If the squad wins, that general expands your Empire farther into the Exchange. That gives you more resources and more troops to wage your next battle. The King must then decide how these new resources are to be deployed… shall he assign the new troops into his existing squads? Should the King hold the new troops and resources back as backup for future battles? Should the King expand on the number of squads using the new troops? Strategic deployment of these resources could turn the tide of the entire war.

Before a King sends a squad forward, he must first assess the capability of the General that is to lead this assault. This is your Research. If you are highly confident that this General will win the battle, should you give him more troops so that he can claim more territory? If you are slightly less confident of that General, should you cut back on his troop or hold back the assault altogether?

Finally, if your Empire has been compromised and the Exchange has claimed a significant portion of it, is it time you consider a change in Strategy and Tactics? Even if the Exchange has claimed a large portion of your Empire, you might still be able to wage a series of battles so successful that you could probably claim the Empire that you started with and maybe even more, like so many famous Kings and Generals in the world. So, even if your Empire has taken a rough hit, it is not time to surrender yet. You are the King. If you give up, the whole Empire falls.

With this “Meta Program” in mind, you will be able to apply many of the famous art of war and their centuries of wisdom on top of the modern finance techniques that you have learnt in order to have even more certain survivability for a long time to come.

Every King needs a tactical map. I have made one such map which you can use for free in order to have a strategic overview of your Empire and help you keep the metaphor in mind at www.mastersoequity.com/metamap.htm http://www.mastersoequity.com/metamap.htm

Anniversaries can be a time of stress for couples. Women worry that their husbands will forget all about them on that special day. Men worry that they’ll forget and have to throw a gift together at the last minute. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Whether you’ve just remembered your anniversary is tomorrow, or whether you’ve been thinking about it for weeks, here are seven never-fail ways to give your spouse an anniversary they’ll never forget.

A romantic getaway - From a weeklong sailing vacation on the Greek Islands to a weekend trip to a local bed-and-breakfast, nothing beats a spontaneous romantic getaway on your anniversary. Don’t be discouraged from this idea if you don’t have a big budget. It doesn’t matter how much the vacation costs-what’s important is that the two of you set aside time to be alone together and lose yourselves in that romantic mood, even if it’s just for a few days. A new place also helps rev up the romance by adding novelty and a touch of luxury.

A gift to remember - Forget the flowers, chocolates, and jewelry. Give your spouse a gift they’re not expecting this year. For him, it’s often best to give something special that corresponds to his interests. Has he always wanted to learn to fly planes or play guitar? Buy him some lessons. Does he have a favorite band? Get him concert tickets. Does he love sports? Get him great seats for the big match. For her, it’s all about demonstrating that you’ve put thought and time into the gift. Go through your photo albums. Make a collage of your marriage-from your wedding day through important events like buying your house and the birth of your kids. Make the photos into a DVD movie or into a hardbound coffee-table book.

A surprise party - Planning a party is a great way to bring friends and family together to celebrate your love. It doesn’t have to be an expensive party-but it does have to correspond to the interests of both. A dinner party, picnic-and-barbecue, pool party, or restaurant gathering are all great ideas. Unless you’ve got a big budget, keep it simple-paper plates and potluck are all fine.

Renew your vows - This is an extremely romantic idea, and one that doesn’t have to break the bank. Gather your friends and family, a suitable vicar and renew your vows in a romantic place like a park, on the beach, or even in your home. Demonstrate to your spouse that you’d marry them all over again. These can be as elaborate or as simple as you want. Some couples plan vow-renewal ceremonies as complex as the weddings themselves, while others make them very informal and inexpensive. Either way you do it, it’s sure to make for a wedding anniversary you’ll have trouble topping next year.

Write a love letter - Nothing says “I love you” like, well…a letter that says “I love you.” Of course, it’s got to say a few other things, as well. But don’t give up on this idea just because you aren’t a prize-winning writer. You don’t have to write something brilliant, as long as it’s heartfelt. And believe me, your spouse will never notice any spelling mistakes if the words you use are sincere. Tell your spouse how attractive, sweet, or funny you thought they were when you met. Tell them how nervous you were on your first date. Tell them the moment you knew you wanted to marry them. Details are important-show your spouse how clearly you remember those special times.

Watch your wedding video - If you’re not up for a big night out or vacation this year, spend a night inside. Get some popcorn, put on slippers and sweatpants, and spend an evening watching your wedding video and leafing through your wedding album. Make sure the kids are at a sleepover or over at Grandma’s-this night should be all about the two of you. If you prefer, cook a simple meal for dinner-or order Chinese food. Above all, concentrate on each other and on your wedding day. It might be low-key, but it will set the stage for a perfectly romantic anniversary.

Pamper each other - An at-home spa day is a great way to have a wonderful anniversary. Spend an afternoon giving each other deep tissue massages and foot rubs. Don’t forget to bring some adult toys to make your at-home spa treatments much more fun and memorable than an ordinary trip to the day spa!

The most important piece of advice I can give you about your anniversary is not to forget it! Mark your diary, calendar our whatever software you use to remember appointments and keep it in mind as the time draws nearer. However, even if you leave it until the last minute, you can still have a memorable anniversary. These creative anniversary ideas are sure to give you wonderful anniversaries-at least for the next seven years.
